Done by Kevin Burns, who did Civil War, Baseball, Jazz...etc. Supposed to be an excellent documentary and the DVD version is said to be even better.

I'd never heard of this, and I assumed it was an old documentary, but it's been pretty interesting so far. Specifically the 5:30 shutdown time, the midget being in R2D2, and the conceptual art for Vader's mask.

Damn west coast, just a couple more hours... I'm really interested in seeing this, I've heard some decent things about the documentary.

That was Ken Burns. This is some other guy.

This version is 90 min without the commercials. The one on the DVD set is 2 1/2 hours.

Darth Vader's "original voice" was friggin hilarious. Sounded like an evil C3PO.

This isn't on for another hour and 15 minutes on the West Coast, but can anyone say if they touch on how David Prowse wasn't told he was going to be dubbed over? He's still a little sore about that today.

I know they discuss how they kept "No, I am your father" secret as they showed it at Comic Con. The original line spoken by Prowse on was "No, Obi-Wan killed your father".

no they didn't touch on it.

Ok, I've heard they play it pretty safe with the documentary and don't go into stuff like that. They don't really mention how Alec Guinness hated the trilogy and threw away any fan mail he got from it.

I'm watcing it now. I missed the first 20 minutes due to Taco Bell's super shitty service. I guess I'll catch them at midnight.

It's pretty good from what I've seen so far, which is like 5 minutes.

The only real mention of it was the "No, Obi-Wan killed your father" part. The whole thing was really cool, except for the Episode 1 and 2 mentions. It'll be difficult to stomach the praise they'll give towards those 2 movies (especially box office wise) when, in reality, they're bastard red headed stepchilds compared to the original trilogy.

Ain't that the worst? Anyway, I wasn't even going to bother till I head the name Ken Burns, but if this is by some other guy, I'll pass.

Well, they did say they weren't even recording him, but didn't tell anyone.

I'm watching the 3 DVDs tomorrow so I'll be able to give an extremely detailed list of every single change in the movies.

Carrie Fischer was coked out at Comic Con also. It's probably some kind of perma-coked out thing at this point.

I was half way paying attention during an earlier airing, I really didn't want to get too into it and ruin some DVD time. It's really nicely done I think, I liked it. It's nice to see something heavily focused on the OT as opposed to the SE and PT, we get enough of that on TV during the release of the movie.

Anyways, I'm curious, I was trying to pay attention to the sabers, but is the footage in this version of the documentary, or even the DVD versions... showing clips from the DVD cut of the OT? Basically, are the lightsabers we see in the clips, the way they look in the DVD or no? Just curious as I wasn't sure since I'm halfway paying attention.

Also, yes, Cindy Williams is horrible. I really don't like any of the other picks.

No, the footage is from the original SE releases. You can tell from the still transparent Snowspeeders and the matting in ROTJ.

Ahh thanks Manabyte, always who I look to for such information. I guess I just gotta sit through this 8 day wait. *starts tapping on the desk*. I'm so glad the store I'm getting it from is doing that midnight purchasing thing. I can't wait.

The wait will be worse for me. I get to watch but not own the DVDs tomorrow. I'll get a taste of the best-looking Star Wars ever and have to wait a week to watch it again.

Also, some of the footage in the documentary is from the original non-SE non-VHS release. They show the opening crawl sans Episode IV, which was never on any home video release. It only exists on some old 35 and 16mm prints now. There are also a couple shots of the original Death Star battle.

Interestingly, people never whine about Beru's dialog being dubbed over by a different actress in the home video releases or all of the dialog changes that happened before the SE's...

Haha, ouch, ah well, nothing better than a drop of water to quench the dry tongue... or something.

Oh right! I did notice that and mentioned it to a friend. That was actually very neat to see as I've never witnessed it. Heh, just like I've never witnessed any of the original films in the theater. I wasn't as hyped about Star Wars, while I loved it, back in that day. So it sucks to miss out. Anyways, it's interesting to see something like that opening crawl.

The dub is done very well I think. I hardly noticed it when I watched the VHS copies for the first time, and I honestly still have trouble noticing it now, it's done very well and works great. Plus the other dialog changes aren't really noticed except by die hard fans. It's the visual changes that catch the eye first. Plus the dialog, doesn't have much of a hard impact on the viewer as these visual ones, so it often comes out as not a big deal.

Drugs really kill your brain... Carrie Fisher is really sad... If they ever would do a sequel trilogy with Luke, Han and Leia... she would be terrible.

Maybe that is why George won't do a sequel... damn you Carrie Cokie Fisher...

Anyways for a coked up pig, she did have a funny line in regards to signing away rights to your image "every time I look in the mirror, I have to pay George some money"

Coke kills...

I didn't watch the version on A&E yesterday, but I watched the full thing today on the DVD and I thought it was awesome. Long, but I certainly learned a lot about Star Wars.
