Star Wars: In Production [Rumors/SPOILERS for All Films Past, Present, & Future]

I hate that there are going to be more superweapons. It seems like too much of a retread of the Death Star from the Original Trilogy. I hope there aren't any more superweapons in any future episodes after Episode IX.
I used to feel this way too, but I've since decided the proliferation of superweapons is a plausible scenario based in reality, and can potentionally lead to more interesting dynamics in the war. The introduction of the death star set off an arms race for developing super weapons, leading to proliferation (re: nuclear weapons) and maybe a cold war scenario. This provides plenty of setup for all sorts of intrigue on a small character level scale with tangible stakes looming on the larger scale. It would be less plausible in a way to assume this wouldn't happen.

Yeah, I'm with the Goat. You write what you know. It's not like mankind has stopped trying to find bigger and better ways to kill each other. Here it's Nukes/Biological Weaponry. In Star Wars... they just blow up/crack planets in half.

It's the same shit, just scaled up.

Of course there were going to be super-weapons. People expecting something that isn't familiar and nostalgia driven are going to be dissapointed.

It's going to be a heavily revised "New Hope," I'm not saying that within itself is a bad thing, but they aren't going to go to new territory. Not yet anyway

I think there's three?

I think.

It's probably in here somewhere if you sift through all the canon squabbling and Clone Wars/Rebels discussion :)

Reminds me, I missed out on a few episodes....

Obviously there is the climactic battle. Wasn't there one with the chrome trooper?

Disclaimer: I like you Cheebo, I do, but...

That said, it feels like you have had this agenda the entire time to almost gleefully remind everyone about the removal of 30 years worth of characters and stories, even in threads where the "canon" status of something isn't even being discussed. It's kind of obnoxious, we get it, you didn't like it, you don't need to constantly assert the fact that "your team won" after all this time.

Oh it's not glee, trust me. I read all the novelizations. I read the Thrawn Trilogy. I have read every single Star Wars novel James Luceno has written. Brian Daley's Han Solo trilogy is and remains one of the best material ever to come out of the entire franchise. As a teen I was obsessed with the Young Jedi Knights books with Jacen and Jania. I even read those trashy Glove of Darth Vader books in the early 90s. I have played through both KOTOR's. And so on. It is more because literally every star wars thread has people asking is "Is ______ still canon?" nearly every page still.

Assuming Jason Ward is getting things right I'll probably be backing out of this thread soon.

I wonder if Lucasfilm/Disney are thinking of Cease and Disisting some of the blogs at this point as there doesn't seem much left to spoil.

Of course they could be feeding him bum info along with some real tidbits.

This isn't happening. Nobody got time for that kind of bullshit, really. Besides which, why even bother - this particular fandom is so hungry to bullshit ITSELF at any given moment that Lucasfilm doesn't even have to consider a misinformation campaign. The fandom is more than happy to lie to itself at length for the fuck of it.

What kind of a shit show is LucasFilm running with all of these leaks? Is there anything about the plot that hasn't been leaked at this point?

Fair bit.

The whole middle of the movie is really cloudy. And for quite a large cast, we still don't know who half these people in the film are.

Haven't heard shit about Gwendoline Christie's character, for instance.

There's still more than enough time until the movie comes out, though.

Not that it would really bother me. But maybe I'm lucky to visit places were I know that I can't be accidentally spoiled, so it's really a choice for me.

I don't think we'll really know how much of this stuff is true until we get a new trailer. For all we know these "leaks" could just be part of some misinformation campaign.

That's what people were saying about Making Star Wars spoiler reports throughout 2014. Then the teaser came and confirmed a whole bunch of them.

Ya know, with Ford crashing a plane (again), i kinda hope they do kill Solo in EP7, that way there's no awkward explaining in EP8 as to why Solo isn't in the film.

Some new details from MSW:
When we first meet Rey she appears to be living a mundane life. She is a scavenger living on a backwater planet. She does what she has to do to survive. Of course, Star Wars: The Force Awakens exists to change all that. Someone has to save the galaxy.

In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey is introduced while scavenging the innards of a huge Star Destroyer that has crashed on the planet’s surface, probably years before Rey steps into it. In the concept art for this sequence, we see Rey standing at a ledge leading to certain doom. She’s hundreds of feet up in the belly of this beast. You can see TIE Fighters on the ground that fell through a hole somewhere and plummeted to the bottom of the chasm during the crash. In the concept art, I would say she seems very agile and it also seems as if she takes risks. To be able to do Rey’s job, you may even need serious skills in parkour, maybe. In the concepts, the Star Destroyer looks like its been crashed there for some time. It has paneling falling apart and the paint is almost rustic inside. The concept art is also “shot” at angles meant to induce a sense of vertigo which makes Rey seem pretty badass and brave.

Rey grabs her salvage and heads back to the salvation station area. In a rather evocative shot, she rides her speeder into the setting sun. She eats dinner alone. We get the sense that Rey lives a very lonely life. Don’t worry, she doesn’t eat dinner for long before BB-8 needs rescuing and she answers his call for help. It makes sense she tries to sell him shortly after considering her line of work, but when the deal falls through after some haggling she reluctantly decides to keep him (and perhaps solve her loneliness problem).

When she meets Finn at the salvage station, she distrusts him. But he’s able to talk her into starting to trust him (that seems to be his skill). When the Stormtroopers attack them, they are thrown together to survive the ordeal.

I really like the sound of Rey’s introduction to the film. There’s an implied sadness to it but its not pathetic. She’s independent but lonely. Her situation is relatable and admirable while inducing a certain sense of empathy for her humanity.

Later on in the film after Rey and Finn take their flight in the Falcon is where we get the IMAX sequences. The Falcon is chased by TIE Fighters and we apparently move by some familiar landmarks in the film’s one-sun desert setting. This is the big chase and action sequence which dominates the film’s first act. TIEs are in hot pursuit of the Falcon as it rockets away from the salvage station. Rey and BB-8 pilot the ship. Finn gets on the Falcon’s turret. There’s a lot of banter between the two and to an extent they don’t seem to really know what they’re doing. But most of all, Finn is rather inept. As TIEs shoot at the Falcon, Rey has to ask Finn if he plans on “answering back.” Its a situation he can’t talk himself out of and he has figure out how to use the turret and actually hit one. To save their skins, Rey pilots them into the insides of the giant crashed Star Destroyer she was scavenging from during her introduction sequence. The Falcon and the TIEs “slalom” around debris and the insides of the downed ship, eventually losing their persuers.

If the rumors for the 2nd trailer are true, then Luke being only a cameo is almost certainly false.

Nah. That trailer (if it's true and not just some clever guesses based on MSW's latest reports) lines up pretty solidly with the idea that Luke's footage is contained to the end of the film and the flashback.

Unless he's in the movie as long as he's in the trailer. /debbiedowner

Gonna be a big disappointment for people if they're expecting a bigger Luke role and he's in there for just a minute at the end. It'll be like when I was five and was super sad that Christopher Reeve never turned into Superman in "Somewhere in Time".

It'll be exactly like that.

makingstarwars.net is putting a lot of effort into expanding lately. They have a really big social media presence and have updated their site's design a lot. they must be raking in the ad revenue. :p

If they have a reasonably high success rate on a lot of these Episode VII rumors, they are gong to make bank over the next few years rumormongering over the other films.

I know people have said they are the most trustworthy source, guess we'll see if their sources are as good as they used to be.

Oh and here's an updated article about the Trailer 2 rumors:
http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-the-force-awakens-trailer-2-description/

Supposedly 'sources' are claiming it's a fake description. Seems to originate from Latino Review so nobody should be shocked.

Hey guys, remember when Ain't It Cool News used to be the source for these kinds of rumors and leaks? My, how they have fallen. How does Harry even stay afloat these days?

Yeah, looks like it's bunk - basically a couple people musta co-ordinated to hit LR with the fakeness to get an article up and running, based on guesses from MSW's latest reports.

And people wanna talk about Lucasfilm misinformation campaigns. They don't need to. We bend over backwards to bullshit ourselves.

I remember when AICN used to be one of those sites I had to visit every day. They were the best source of leaks.

Then it got so big that studios started taking action. Harry used to constantly post things that pissed studios off. Now he bows to their every wish and doesn't post anything that will piss anyone off. The site got neutered hard.

Now I probably havent visited in a year or two.

Haven't seen this thread updated in a bit. I liked the newest post that MSW put up:

http://makingstarwars.net/2015/03/star-wars-the-force-awakens-kylo-rens-sith-lord-roommate/

I wonder if the cyborg concept art was abandoned in favor of Kylo's pseudo-Vader/Maul mashup costume that he wears now or if he's still a cyborg under the helmet. Also MSW says that Uber has three of four scenes but does that mean physical appearances? We know from one of his older posts that Uber tells Kylo not to get "sentimental" before he kills Han, but since he's implying that Kylo is talking to himself in the "padded room" here I wonder if that means Uber is a "voice" in Kylo's head.

I've heard some crazy rumors surrounding Sabine I hope can be cleared up. The following two statements are allegedly canon now. Don't highlight unless you have a clue what I'm talking about.

#1: Sabine is a genuine Mandalorian and Boba Fett isn't.
#2: In Star Wars #3 Sabine is romantically involved with Darth Vader

If both are true Star Wars 2.0 is already ruined.

Edit: It took 5 minutes of reading to learn the second is bullshit. Damn funny joke, though.

Why would anyone still consider Boba Fett to be Mandalorian at this point?

The wait to see this is going to be pretty unbearable. Luke not featuring isn't surprising after those rumours about his lack of screentime. Can't wait to get a better look at Kylo Ren and Rose.
