Okay, I was thinking about this today. Is the reason why Episode I is so bright and cheerful and a kiddy, Skittle-filled shit parade because Lucas is trying to show us that the Old Republic was a happy place where slave children shat lollipops before the events of Episode II through Episode VI...

... or is The Phantom Menace just a shitty excuse to sell toys and still sucks an appropiate amount of monkey balls (45,656,901)?

Lucas is trying to say that a movie filled with CG is 'good', 'jesus-like' and 'happy'. Movies without CG are 'bad', 'dark', and 'evil'.

Dawg, put it down.

The number of children Lucas has is indirectly proportional to his films' quality. Try it out. It works for any given period of time.

it doesnt matter if it's cheery or dark. Either way it wouldn't prevent me from throwing up every time Anakin, Padme, or Jar Jar walk on screen in the prequels.

A secret that will become more evident in the coming years:

The Phantom Menace is a better film than Attack of the Clones.

Whatever's gonna happen in EP:3 will juxtapose with the idyllic cheeriness of EP:1. EP:1 is kinda like the whole Shire excerpt from Fellowship; just extended to a 2 hour movie.

That, and yeah, he wanted to sell toys, although I don't think anything was quite as marketable as those Lubbable Teddies from Jedi.

I'm in it for the Wooaaar, whooaann, biiiiiiiiiiizon. By that I mean the lightsabers, and their audio counterparts, the bass.

I realized that after the second time I watched clones.....No Darth Maul, and weak saber fights means Menace > Clones. But then again, it's kinda like choosing between getting punched in the nuts or getting kicked in the nuts.

Although I agreed with this the moment I saw the second film, it's kind of like comparing different kinds of poo. Doesn't matter what kind it is, I still don't want it in front of me.

Will start substantiating his hate
The Phantom Menace is a good Star Wars film. It could have been even better if it stuck closer to the shooting script but obviously something has to go in editing. I don't mind Jar-Jar nor Jake Lloyds as a whole. Certainly there are scenes that shouldn't have made it in and Jar-Jar's slapstick during the ground battle is lame but everything else is pretty good IMO. It feels like a Star Wars movie.

Attack of the Clones was completely mauled during shooting. The leaked script was so much better. There was more focus on the story and, more was left to the imagination and the whole droid factory scene wasn't there. Unfortunately I think after the many complaints about the lack of action in TPM Lucas decided have more of it in AotC. It's a real shame IMO.

Menage! Haha.

Ep. 2 was so unlike any other Star Wars movie (the sets and locales were unfamiliar, the plot progression was at its weakest in the series, and of course, digital film and neon colors) I can't help but prefer Ep.1.

While watching the droid factory scene, I couldn't help but thinking "this scene is here only in order to make the GBA game tie-in."

I never did look at any of the games. Was I right?
