Star Wars: The Force Awakens Final Trailer

The buzz droids never made much sense to me. The enemy shoots a missile at Anakin. It explodes right next to his ship and buzz droids come out of it. They start messing with his controls and almost cause him to crash. But if the whole point of the buzz droids is to disable and destroy enemy vehicles, any not just use normal missiles? The one that nearly hit Anakin probably would have destroyed the ship if it were a normal explosive.

You could argue that the spread of the droids made it easier to hit the target rather than a single regular missile, but if that were the case why not just make the droids explosive, or just have smaller explosives instead of droids?

Excluding imax, every theater is the same size around here. Same as the ones I've been to in other states. Like just standard ass sized screens.

Nah, there's not really a "standard" size for theater screens. It depends on the size of the auditorium more than anything. You might be noticing that the screen seems proportionally sized the same compared to the size of the room, but that doesn't mean all the screens are the same size at all. There's no real standardization in the industry so far as I know. I know for IMAX/LieMAX screens, there's a MINIMUM size they have to surpass in order to get the branding (I think) but there's no set dimension they have to adhere to.

The Super Battle Droids were kinda sorta like that in Republic Commando.
The Super Battle Droids in Republic Commando were ludicrously tough. Almost to the point of comedy. Fuck Super Battle Droid Dispensers, those were the worst.

Because the Buzz Droid missiles don't have to actually hit the target. Also, they can do more precise damage than a missile since the Buzz Droids can target specific parts of the hull. Throw a missile at a big ship and it hurts. Throw a bunch of Buzz Droids and they can potentially take out the entire ship.

Not sure why this became a Buzz Droid hate thread. They're nowhere near the most impractical part of Star Wars and they were part of one of the more fun sequences of Revenge of the Sith. If we're gonna ask why the Star Wars universe uses little droids as weapons, we might as well ask why people programmed the translator droids to be as annoying as humanly possible.

I watched it yesterday. The opening shot is fucking amazing, where Anakin and Obi-Wan fly in formation past the Star Destroyer and it pans down to show this colossal battle. Possibly my favourite opening shot of any of the movies, up there with the Star Destroyer flying past the camera in the first one. But spending the rest of that battle on them trying to get the stupid little droids off their ships is such a waste. Give us an awesome dogfight if you want tension on the way to Grievous' ship.

Yep, Another wasted opportunity. The prequels are full of them.

Is it really that great a mystery why C3PO is annoying as hell? Look at who made him.

Although I'm sure it was just an artistic choice in the films, some people argue "gay" robots are the sweet spot in the uncanny valley. Not too silly to be taken seriously, not scary as hell.

Noticed this in the Box-Office thread, but it looks like if you took the single-day sales of Force Awakens (Monday night-Tuesday night) and compared them to this weekend's rankings, the film would place somewhere around 4th or 5th.

Two months out, one day of sales, and it's beating the majority of the weekend top 10.

Spielberg pre-viz'd the Lightsaber battle at the end.

He also did pre-viz for the Grievous wheelbike chase. There's a massively extended concept animation of it on the blu ray that goes on for waaaaaaaaay too long because he had fun throwing every idea under the sun into the chase.

the legs this thing will have will be insane I always forget that the diehard (and even casual) fanbase watch each movie multiple times while it's still in theaters. Even people who hated the prequel saw each of the movies twice (mainly in disbelief in what they saw last time lol)

A positive critically recieved SW movie tho? they will be eating good on those sales for a long ass time

That guy just kept going at it. Glad someone got him the super-hi res versions with the multichannel soundtracks split out. It does sound a LOT cleaner.

(Sucks that YouTube wont' let you swap out videos under the same URL, though. This one's probably just gonna get lost in the sauce, and his first attempt's the one everyone finds and shares)

Agreed. Not sure why he just doesn't delete the other one though.

Guys, movies released in December don't have legs

For anyone that wanted a cut of the trailer music, this is the absolute best version out there.

I've listened to this twice so far

Glad they got the Maestro back for what will probably be (considering his age) one of his last scores.

So it seems that some people have been able to decipher where some of the flags originated from that were seen in the latest trailer. It's our first dosage of references to prequel material in the new trilogy, I guess.

You know, based solely on appearances, Maz Kanata (or whoever the little person on the poster is assumed to be) really does fit the profile of a podracer pilot. She is small and wearing goggles, after all. The trailer hints that she is familiar with the force, and when has that ever aided a podracer?!

Maybe she made it big on the wider podracing circuit and retired to this castle where she hosts underworld-style races on the lake.

Hondo Ohnaka's symbol appearing warms my heart.

Interesting how all of those symbols are associated with criminal activity in some way (Pod racing is illegal on most planets).

Ha, really didn't expect to see Hondo's symbol on there. Love it.

Not the first. There were podracer engines in the first teaser.

If JJ can keep the references to background imagery like this and not "KHAN" type garbage, then we might be in good shape.

Not the first. There were podracer engines in the first teaser.

It certainly resembled one, but it could just as easily have been an engine that was part of some other ship that just happened to look like it belonged to a pod racer. The flags on the other hand are pretty definitive.

I agree, Disney has to be cognisant that for alot of people this will be their first star wars, they already have a mountain to climb with trying to appease older fans and explain why people such as Han/Luke/Leia/Vader are significant to newer ones.

Honestly im a tad surprised they are going to so heavy with the Vader stuff

This same engine is in the rogue 1 teaser photo

Could just be "Standard engine" that can be retrofitted to do any number of things, include power a podracer.

More sexy if its a podracer engine though :3

Just watched that Grevious chase/Obiwan fight... man that is just awful.. and that's in the 'best' prequel movie. I remember thinking it was kind of cool when it came out but it's just so fake...

As for Kylo's saber... (I know beating a dead horse here) imo he is trying to come off as tougher than he actually is... so he is using the most badass/fiery looking lightsaber... maybe it is an old Sith artifact so he feels it makes him more important. Same goes for his helmet/mask. He probably doesn't need it to breathe... Just wants to look evil.

This isnt a spoiler insofar as its been said a few times by JJ in interviews, but in regards to his lightsaber (if you are interested)

He made it, its meant to reflect how volatile he is and how difficult it would be to build a lightsaber by yourself, the lightsaber and Kylo go hand in hand

Kylo built the lightsaber himself according to JJ. I expect you're right about the mask. He just wants to look a bit like Vader.

That's pretty interesting. It reminds me how in his ROTS review, Plinkett mentioned that he assumed the Jedi built their own lightsabers as a rite of passage, as opposed to being mass produced.

This is as raw as we have seen it, Lukes lightsaber was nice and refined, the model we have seen of this one is like someone using spare parts from a junkyard.

They do, actually, and TCW confirmed this. IIRC Filoni said in an interview once that there are simply excess lightsabers that the Temple keeps in storage, like when a Jedi decides to build a new lightsaber, etc.

Is it fact that you have to be at least a force sensitive to build a saber? Like, not any joe shmoe could make one?

Yes, the novel Heir to the Jedi confirms this. The focusing crystal inside has to be balanced with the Force to be stabilized properly. I mean I guess you could do it if you had extremely high tech machinery but your average person couldn't do it otherwise. Every time we've seen someone build a lightsaber it's been by meditating to fit the parts together cleanly.

Here's a palette cleanser.

No Force sensitivity required. The expert who teaches new Jedi how to build their own lightsaber is actually a droid.

But, unless you know what you're doing, you could very easily accidentally create a bomb instead of a usable lightsaber.

Huh, I didn't realize this. I guess Huyang is just that precise.

It should be stated heir to the jedi is not canon though

BUT as an established principle, i think it probably will be the case going forward

Handling a lightsaber on the other hand, anyone can do that.

We don't really know if force sensitivity isn't required, but I think it would be a lot harder for someone without the force to make their own saber. Huyang is unique because he's what, a thousand years old? Maybe more? Maybe he's just a special case.

It is canon.
