Yo, I was thinking, what if the final fight is Ren and Finn, Fin gets his ass kicked and Ren is coming for the final blow, then a figure picks up the blue lightsaber, ignites it, and it's Luke. That would be an awesome entrance

Since some are speculating that might be Finn here

They couldn't even find the location of the secret Rebel Base, how are we supposed to believe they were able to remove the knowledge of every single person on every planet who knows about the Jedi and witnessed a war they were in that spanned the galaxy?
People arguing about the awareness of Jedi in a post-Republic galaxy are underestimating how big a friggin galaxy is. Millions of inhabited planets probably? Thousands of Jedi. Most planets have probably never been visited by a Jedi. Many inhabitants of backwaters probably haven't even heard of them, berfore or after the Republic fell. On a galactic scale very few people have seen one. No one witnessed what happened between the force users in the OT except for the people you saw on screen. Every battle you see or hear about in the Prequels or EU add up to the tiniest mote of activity in a place the size of a galaxy.

Overall there are probably vast swaths of people in the galaxy that are less knowledgeable about major events than a farmer in the middle of kansas with no television or radio.

There was a temple on Coruscant dedicated to their religion and tales of lightsabers, but how real is that to someone across the galaxy? Especially when, if you haven't encountered the force, there isn't another precedent for believing in magic. They might seem like Scientologists or something.

I'm interested in the history of this planet because that looks to be a pretty massive ship graveyard with what looks like multiple large ships along with the Star Destroyer in the background.

What could be going on in this little desert planet to have such a large battle going on in the past?

The best thing about all of this is how f'in interested I am in everything going on. So many questions

God, I'm somehow getting even more hyped

All of the Inquisitors have spinning lightsabers. The implication is that they need to use tricks because they are only barely trained in the Force.

The Battle of Jakku is covered in the book Lost Stars by Claudia Grey.

It is covered in one of the prequel novels already (Lost Stars, which is actually a very good book), and will also be in the Battlefront game.

Who said that they have made every person still alive forget about the jedi? Im saying that Finn and Rey, from the trailer footage specifically, have no real basis of judgement themselves. Also, those are some pretty strange conclusions to draw, saying "couldnt find a base > cant modify records/effectively spread propaganda". The jedi were part of a larger war, but im not sure about what "regular people" on a galactic scale knew about the Jedi, or how much they even cared. Some of them would maybe be intent on walking around spreading the story of the jedi order, others probably wouldnt because they dont want to oppose the empire and their narrative, and a lot of people maybe didnt care enough to even to think about it any further. The galaxy is after all, a huge place. The point here is, that there is really no stretch to assume that Rey and Finn have no good reason to assume that its for real, especially given the respective enviroments they find themselves in. They know OF the story, but how should they know if its true or not, if everything but word of mouth among some circles of individuals is wiped?

hopefully the silly arguments supporting the prequels will be able to be laid to rest, once people see how a proper movie is done.

wait... people support the prequels? why?

This movie looks great. Back to the desolated, gritty and iconic look. None of that political bullshit.

Wow didn't even realize they had prequel books already for these events. Thanks guys.

I actually think I will ignore all the info out there just in case the movie does some backstory on the whole ordeal. I'd like to go in completely fresh in all my info and let the movie do the storytelling.

Cool that it is indeed fleshed out with the happenings.

Some people think they're fun movies. Go figure. We have had this discussion a gazillion times over for a decade, how you've missed it, I don't know.

BobbyRoberts made a really nice a post summing up why people can enjoy the prequels in another thread. I'll have to find it.

Fans really need to stop shitting on other fans.

I watched them. They were ok. I don't consider them true to the original movies.

Did i have fun in some bits, sure. Do i hate the movies. nop.

I just dunn think i would go out of my way to say i support them.

He's busy picking up some power converters at the Toshi station. Now that Owen and Aunt Beru are out of the picture, there will be on one to stop him this time.

Clearly Kylo Ren's true mission is to finish what Vader started, to complete the destruction of sand throughout the galaxy.

This. I wanted to not watch this trailer. but i couldn't help myself. Its gonna be great not knowing anything else about the plot. So excited!!!

I don't get what's so hard to understand that not everyone everywhere would know of the Jedi, there was ten thousand of them apparently and I don't believe that was an official number. That's ten thousand people across who knows how many planets of who knows how many billions of people. There are people on our own planet that know nothing of what is going on around the world let alone their own country.

For a random example the british army for instance is made up of like fifty thousand people, five times as many Jedi, do anyone see them regularly? are they on the news a lot? I couldn't name you one person I've met who is currently in the army. We all know there is a British army because pretty much every country has one. Now what if they didnt and there was just one, and instead of being an organisation that goes to war or protects the country they were a society of people who kept to themselves, did everything low key and didn't involve themselves in politics.

Totally understandable. I hope I didn't come across like I was dogging you. I mostly just eye roll at people looking down on fans of the PT with drive by posts.

We're all Star Wars fans that like the films for a multitude of different reasons.

I was curious how this compared to the Phantom Menace trailer (couldn't really remember it since I probably last saw it when I was 12 or so). Anyway, there is no comparison. I'm getting fever dreams just watching this thing:

a whole different tone. even in how it was cut. Thats cool... i remember being so excited for Episode 1 haha. Specially with Ray Parkers cool lightsaber moves.

episode 7 trailer is much more interesting, captivating and exciting.

Aye aye!!

I am so excited. I really hope this movie gives us good thrills.

And yes, thats a good point. The cool thing, is that the movies really brought a lot of people together, and it still does this much time after its original release. :)

Thank you. I don't understand why this reasoning is such a far jump for people to understand.

The thing is a lot of the approach to the prequels (both in terms of the film's actual production as well as the audience's reception over the years) was based on the premise that it's too difficult or even impossible to recreate the magic of the originals, so you might as well go in a different direction.

And while this new movie may end up falling short of the OT I think based on the trailer alone we can say that that original premise was just plain wrong.

edit:

yep, and this supports my argument.

This has probably been mentioned n times, but are some of the First Order officers visible on the bridge (with Kylo Ren) female? Well done detail if so.

The trailer is awesome. The tickets are bought. Reggie is ready.

What exactly does this have to do with people enjoying the films? They can't enjoy them because the movies are wrong? I don't get it.

EDIT: I don't think we're discussing the same thing.
