I'm not an RP'er but it seems pretty fucking lazy to not include simple environmental interaction like sitting in chairs.

The more environmental interaction the better, imo.

This is probably the most interesting release coming out this year from a lot of perspectives. Personally I want to play it, as a KOTOR fan. It's clearly very meaningful to EA/Bioware as well. I don't know if it's completely going to break them if it doesn't do well, but it will certainly hurt.

I just wish I could play the damn thing already.

EVE is successful purely because of it being so low budget. For any current game or other IP, it would be considered a failure with the numbers it gets. It has around 300k subs, which just isn't enough for todays games
300K subs is "great" because of its budget, but still decent even if its reasonable budget (not $100 million+). And more to the point, it has more subs than any other sub-based MMO in the West at this point (and, I think more than any worldwide).

I never tried to get into rp, but surely it is not all of this nature.
is it? :O
Can you think of another super compelling reason why people would RP?

So you believe franchise has zero pull on game success? Because that is really all that is being said. Heck without the IP, Galaxies wouldn't have lasted as long as it did with how horrible it performed and all its countless problems, but it was the hardcore SW fans that kept the game going for so long as it did generate money.
This is what the guy actually said:
Star Wars will be enough for that.

I think you guys are really underestimating Star Wars.

When I said:
1 million subs

So, put two and two together. Does Star Wars guarantee your game 1 million subs, Y/N

Yo, fellow bored mofos, Agent footage, from the new build :O. But no HD.

IA stealthing through a mission on Alderaan, at lvl 28 or so. May be the highest level we've seen yet.

This guy was showing off, sleep darting people mid-air haha.

Like I said I never tried it, but I would think people in the world exist that want to truly play as their character when they log in, and as much as possible treat it as a world of swords and sorcery or sci-fi or whatever.

To a certain degree that is basically what you do. Of course there are the ERPers but they stay away from the crowded areas mostly. During my two or three years on a RP server in WoW I only ran into Elf orgies or stuff like that twice or three times. I am not that big on roleplaying myself, but I have found that RP servers usually have friendlier communities than regular servers.

Nice vid btw.

The difference is that in TOR you can't sit in the chair. And that pisses RPers off big time for some bizarre reason.

Ah ... well, for the RP'ers I guess that sucks (and I have nothing against them) but when all is said and done it's a very small part of the game. But then again if it's so small why not include it heh.

Does seem weird to have "no" interaction with the environment besides quest objects though.

SO GOOD. That's what I was hoping the class could do. Legit!

What? That IA footage looked really lame. Skipping every mob to get your quest done, way to ruin the game, lol. But I guess that's how alot of rogue-type classes play. Good thing I won't roll a stealth class. =P

They get to see content faster, but they level slower doing that. Dude probably ends up grinding out XP somewhere instead of getting it naturally. He's not only missing the XP from mobs, but all the bonus quests that pop up in the area he's in.

But cool that you can "rogue" it.

Got an invite to the beta last night. I started the download this afternoon and man I'm glad I don't have any bandwidth caps, this thing is huge. It sort of feels like the old days on 56k waiting all night for a big file to download. Currently at 5 gigs left on English Assets 1 dl.

poor you

I'm confused: creepy ERP aside, is role-playing somehow more nerdy than the ongoing raid treadmill most hardcore MMO players partake in? :lol

Nice vid for the IA, btw. Good to know that the option is there for those who want to rogue it.

I'd say.

Well once you put the erotica aside, there's just not much left.

Social interaction beyond "LF tank/dps/heals, pst"? ZOMG! One can practically smell the RP sex in this example.

At any rate, I'm of the mindset that options are a good thing. Core game systems should take precedence, but "fluff" interactions do add a lot of flavor to the world. I rarely came across any RPers on my old WoW realm, but you'd better believe I still saw plenty of goofing around with sittable chairs, paper zeppelin toys, remote control tonks, etc.

1 million sales absolutely but their goal was atleast 500k sustained subs which shouldnt be a problem at all.
