They'd really release it two days before Thanksgiving? That seems awfully silly but I guess WoW came out Thanksgiving week as well.

1 million sales absolutely but their goal was atleast 500k sustained subs which shouldnt be a problem at all.
Posts like these make me hope to god its real, and the guy who made the image is sitting in his chair going "Awww".

Have we seen that image before by the way?

That image looks like an Eve Online expansion rather than swtor.

Great video with the AI btw. I would't play that way but my brother loved to do that in UO.

Social interaction beyond "LF tank/dps/heals, pst"? ZOMG! One can practically smell the RP sex in this example.

At any rate, I'm of the mindset that options are a good thing. Core game systems should take precedence, but "fluff" interactions do add a lot of flavor to the world. I rarely came across any RPers on my old WoW realm, but you'd better believe I still saw plenty of goofing around with sittable chairs, paper zeppelin toys, remote control tonks, etc.

In Everquest, at launch, most people made some effort to roleplay at least a little. "Powergamers" were not that common.

Nowadays, the games are basically designed to turn everyone into a powergamer (not that Everquest wasn't, but people weren't trained that way yet). It's not about existing in a virtual world; it's about gaining levels and loot, with varied geography as a window dressing. The huge majority of game features, development effort, rewards/incentives, etc. are all centered around combat/character advancement, and roleplaying-related features are limited to some dance emotes.

I'm not judging (I'm not a roleplayer myself), just observing.

When I first got on EQ (Pre-Luclin), it was my first MMO. I thought roleplaying was expected, but people just avoided me. I sat my mom down to play and we spent three hours freaking out over finding spiderling silks because the fate of the world depended on it.

Only for Smuggler and IA. Consular and Inquisitors have limited stealth.

Only 2 of 16 ACs have permanent stealth. And those 2 classes happen to be very unpopular so far.

EDIT: You guys have no idea how happy I am to be home right now. I have a constant internet connection (sort of), an awesome computer, and 2 monitors. As opposed to...a Kindle with a bad 3G connection.

The only problem with the smuggler class so far is the scoundrel armor sets I've seen all look boring as hell. Has anyone seen any cool screens of scoundrel sets they can point me to? Yes I'm that shallow, btw.

I'm so glad I'm deciding to go smuggler for the main game. So many Jedi running around, I'll get all the free smuggler loot!
Here here! I'm sure there's going to be plenty for the both of us!

I'm still going to play a Scoundrel but their armor is super boring to me, too.

Yeah there's gotta be more armor types for the Scoundrel than just jackets and pants. I understand going for the Han Solo look for the beginning part of the game but they should let the scoundrel get some cool shit later. I'd even settle for the gunslinger look.

IA stealthing through a mission on Alderaan, at lvl 28 or so. May be the highest level we've seen yet.

300K subs is "great" because of its budget, but still decent even if its reasonable budget (not $100 million+). And more to the point, it has more subs than any other sub-based MMO in the West at this point (and, I think more than any worldwide)

EVE is great, my main go to MMO, and I think it really has carved a major niche that draws in the gamers who aren't into the more traditional game. For a game of it's budget and low profile it's probably one of the biggest success stories in the industry probably. Lot of games have far exceeded that number, but none have really been able to sustain of course. For most MMO you can generally point to the many flaws and problems of why that game failed though, so many have sold well and had limited success but they could't retain.

And RIFT is actually the one success so far it would seem, at last producers letter it was stated that they had around 600k subs and been actually slowly increasing, it seems they have been pretty consistent so far. RIFT really is bringing nothing new it's mainly another WoW clone with a couple new features, but what it did succeed at is lots of support, regular content updates, and most of all, one of the most polished MMO releases in years. SWTOR needs to come out in a solid state more than anything I think, the game doesn't have to revolutionize, lot of people just want something new, but if the game is not in good shape at launch or soon after, it's going to crash and burn. The game is already going to sell a ton and be big (it's star wars, hyped to hell, and already EA's most preordered game), they just have to hope the game has quality to keep those players. Right now it sounds like stuff is still very rough state in Beta so I'm concerned obviously.

FieryBalrog said:
This is what the guy actually said:
Star Wars will be enough for that.

I think you guys are really underestimating Star Wars.

When I said:
1 million subs

So, put two and two together. Does Star Wars guarantee your game 1 million subs, Y/N

I don't think the name alone is going to do it, but it will help no doubt. Gamers want new MMO and it's clear many are sick of stuff like WoW as they always jump to what is new. Games like Conan and Warhammer with lesser known IP's can do over 1 million sales, then a Star Wars game in this current MMO environment should easily do big numbers, but as been said countless times here, retention is what matters and we will never know this till after game launches. I do think that the SW IP will give the game far more staying power than many other games due to fan factor. Galaxies was from a time when MMO's were far smaller in popularity and really it was the heavy fan factor that even kept it going so long. TOR looks to be hitting far more stronger in this current MMO environment, I would definitly say the SW IP will be a major factor, but it's no gaurantee of course.

That isn't accurate (unless they changed that in the last couple days when I've been busy). It is 4 of 16 AC's. With another 4 having temporary stealth. Grand total of 8 AC's with stealth possibilities.

If a Sith Assassin has perm stealth then I'm def going for that class.

Do Gunslingers and Snipers have stealth?

They get to see content faster, but they level slower doing that. Dude probably ends up grinding out XP somewhere instead of getting it naturally. He's not only missing the XP from mobs, but all the bonus quests that pop up in the area he's in.

But cool that you can "rogue" it.
It would be cool if they gave a bonus for not being seen or being seen limited times and it would fit with the agent story.

Well the reward is often going through content faster. In WoW rogues were able to just easy mode through so many quests using stealth. Making it easier and getting bigger reward I don't think would be best

Stealthing through everything is how I play every game that gives you a stealth route. I always feel like a badass.

Eh, this doesn't make sense to me. Wouldn't a class that has permanent stealth abilities be the perfect scout, regardless of cover mechanic? Couldn't you play a Scoundrel similar to how you play a WoW rogue? Sneak in, do some damage, sneak out.
But you'd use a Scoundrel for that because they actually have Stealth abilities. I don't think Gunslingers can really do anything in stealth.

It seemed as if the dev was talking about the smuggler class as a whole and not specifically the gunslinger, but that's good to hear.

That thread was specifically about the Gunslinger and the role of cover in PvP. I don't think he was talking about Scoundrels at all.

Yeah, I see that. I wish the devs would start naming the AC's specifically to avoid confusion.

My favorite class from WoW is the Shaman (Enhancement/Restoration). Do you guys think the Jedi Consular would be a good fit?

Out of the choices on the Republic side, yes. That's probably your best fit (although nothing in TOR is really like the Shaman as far as totems).

Although Jedi Warrior could fit as well because Enhancement is generally a dual-wielding, melee class. I believe.

Finally watched the Consular video. Really disappointed it didn't show any of the other AC.

That's what the Consular Progression Video is gonna be for.

edit: I might be a liar, will try to confirm.

They have unlimited stealth, while companions are just more difficult to see. Best to dismiss companion and then stealth past mobs if you wanna game the lame way.

Well being a scout is going to be up to the player. In WoW as a rogue I always was scouting for the party ahead or especially doing lot of info relaying in PVP

Going to have to wait until after the game launches to see that video. If it took them this long to bring out this class trailer, then who knows how long it'll take them to bring out the progression video.
