Is there even a beta going on? In the end, I'm hoping this gets pushed to 2012. It just seems like a better timed launch and by then, all this extended testing will be done to BioWare's satisfaction.

From what it looks like (look up previous page) there is Closed Beta, where they test things 24/7, and Beta Weekends, when they invite more random people for a limited time. My guess is Closed Beta is proper beta, and Beta Weekends are just PR stunts/server load tests.

However, no streaming or recording from either. Plus, sites like Betacake report Beta Testers not really liking the game much. There are a lot of issues to be fixed, a lot of design decisions rub people the wrong way.

This is not true, it has appeared in various SW licensed products already, including gay characters in the KOTOR series of games. No such thing has existed, and the myth came from the posting on a forum which quickly spun out of control on it's intent.

I see, sorry to mislead others. Seems like I got caught in urban myth as well.

Hey guys1 last reminder for the BETA ACCT contest. Here is a pic of the email prooving its real as well as launcher for those with low faith in my integrity. Winner will obviously get full acess to acct and be able to do changes to email and password as wished in order to get your notification of when the beta will begin. Acct has never been used cause i got it too late, never thought that email would get in. I will announce as well as PM the winner tonight. Instructions are in the previous page on how to participate!
Good Luck!

Blame Bioware for dragging this thing out forever. I was extremely hyped for this game a month ago but now I am just tired of being disappointed.

I'll play it when it comes out but I'm not rabid for the beta any more..

Well, I am interested in the beta, I just have a natural aversion to have stuff dangled in front of me and the asked to jump through hoops like a circus monkey.

I'm more interested in his desktop. What's that toolbar you have on the bottom? Look funky.
haha, this is all part of rainmeter. Best app for desktop customization. Download rainmeter then go to deviant art and look at the themes. I recommend enigma and fly away as well as tron. Then one b y one you can combine elements such as toolbars, clocks, dates, system info, from each theme and place them on ur desktop. it uses less resources than steam. Great app.

Was that the best example? I couldn't even get halfway through that bitchfest.

I made it about 2/3's. Having played the beta most of this shit this guy is talking about I don't agree with.

The graphics look great. It's an MMO, not Crysis. To compare it looks better than WoW did to current graphics back when it launched.

He bitches about some texture glitches. Gee, it's beta and the game has some missing textures on some of the gear, game is fail!

I listened to the voice acted dialogue on almost every quest and most people I talked to did the same. Even running the flashpoints multiple times I didn't skip each time because I liked to hear and see the different choices people would make.

He whines about having to walk between quests. Why not just auto-level everyone to max level then? Myself I was suprised by how many taxi-points were available. Sprint at 15 and speeder at 25 are just fine.

You are always encouraged to group in the game. Apparently that douchebag skipped all of the heroic 2-4 man quests. Granted in beta some were broken and there isn't enough server population sometimes to find a group for them but that won't be a problem by launch.

I do wish the game had actual vanity slots. It's a disappointment that in 2011 an MMO is launching where I still have to ditch my bad-ass looking set of gear for a mish-mash of higher level stuff. At the minimum please please give us a goddamn helmet toggle. I like the way my character looked actually and it would be nice to see his face during conversations.

Basically this game will NOT appeal to loot-whores that want action and graphics handed to them on a silver platter. Those douchebags should go stick with LoL/DotA/Diablo instead.

Talent tree's look pretty limited with only 41 points. If i want to do a tanking build on my bounty hunter there is hardly any choice in what talents to pick.

There is a helmet toggle in the options.

Some of his complaints I agree with though like not being able to remove mods. The article seems extremely long so I'm not going to read it all.

That was a fascinating rant to read. He doesn't seem to understand what he is actually playing.

Explain to me then. Do I have to come to SWTOR with a particular mindset to be able to enjoy it? I always though great games would be enjoyable "just because". Are you in the beta by any chance?

Even if that was more of a fanboy rant, you just don't get the sense of excitement from the testers (there are some people posting in the comments to that article; no, I don't know if they are in the beta).

Contrast that with DIII, where almost 100% of people playing the beta are blown away by great design choices, good art, smooth performance, etc.

lmao, swtor is a very overyhyped game. It doesnt really do anything new to the genre besides add dialogue. It is wow at its peak five years ago. Storyline is boring as well as quests that are back and forth x to y, visit z and back to x. Second city is very boring and its so noob friendly its an insult. I am giving away a beta acct so other people can enjoy the game because I am def not of them lol. Btw, for the contest ppl, i will read all the PM's in a bit, all 50 of them and determine the winner by midnight. Good luck!

Not really. You know a beta test review is bad when the main problem they have are the graphics but when he was complaining about some good armor he got that he replaced with something better two planets later i just stopped reading.

So free to play in 2012 or 2013?

EA will keep it subscription based while launching a browser-launched, PVP only, F2P game using the same game assets just like they're doing with WAR.

BioWare has been preaching how you can use your level 1 look and just keep upgrading the armor. He found out that's bullshit.

Two things come to mind. First, i like to think ive kept pretty good tabs on this game but i dont remember this. i must have missed it. Second, its such a small little thing it means nothing. Its cosmetic. If something like this is a huge negative for someone, well thats their opinion, but that opinion mean nothing to me. If they were talking about problems with gameplay that would be a whole other issue.

Yes. It's an MMO. Keep your expectations as low as possible and you may end up enjoying it.

That betacake reviewer is approaching SWTOR from the perspective of KOTOR 3. He's finding that it doesn't make a very good KOTOR 3 for him.

And that's an interesting bit of information. The people telling him "well, it's an MMO" (that's why there's lots of dumb filler quests, that's why you can't use certain weapons, that's why dialogue is reused, etc.) are actually correct. The game was hyped the best of KOTOR 3 mixed with the best of MMOs. And it turns out the one might detract from the other.

Well if thats the case why start out his review with cosmetic stuff?

Because if KOTOR 3 were coming out, most fans probably wouldn't put up with this graphical style? I can see that being quite disappointing if that's what he wanted. I don't have any real problems with the graphics myself except to say, that even with stylized art direction it looks pretty dated.

You're all sorts of negative today, aren't you?
Nah, it was more just annoyance that I'll never have too much fun with a skill calculator because in the end I'm just going to go online and find out that I'm stupid and built a terrible character.

The class conversations are interesting, but once you hear them the first time, you will probably skip them too. Also, the acting is not THAT great. You don’t get a choice of your character’s voice, like you get in many other fully voiced RPGs, like Oblivion or Dragon Age.
What? Huh? Yes, I really loved the grunts and shouts in Oblivion and Dragon Age. That's way better than your character actually saying something.

He makes a few bad points (i.e. some of the stuff about unfinished NPCs and whatnot are typical beta fare), but he makes a lot of good ones, too. As Morn said, he understands what he is playing better than most. The game is an inefficient, archaic mess that is going to bank more on its Star Wars/KOTOR name than the fact that it is anywhere near well-made.

Yep that's what I got from the beta weekend too. I mean voices are cool at first (also helped that my character's voice totally fit his appearance/way I played him) but after awhile, you'll start skipping the dialogue for sure.

Damn that sucks to hear. I was really excited about this one. Hopefully they fix this stuff before release.
