I can't really think of what other light side classes there might be. Jedi, Soldier...

Its weird I cant think of anything else either, but I can probably guess about a dozen potential sith classes off the top of my head.

I already have my sights on the Trooper, though. he fits the Tank archetype pretty well.

GAF guilds never work. the best you can hope for is a server that the majority agree on.

Then I'll make my own guild. > And it will crush everyone!

I thought Amirox had a decent LotRO guild going, or was that just right after launch?

I wouldn't worry about a Gaf guild. I have a pretty good size group of people I play MMO's and other games with (Clan). If SWTOR turns out good, it will be the next game we play probably, and anyone is free to join.

Hey everyone,

For those of you who missed it, last week we put up our latest Fan Friday which announced our presence at both GamesCom and the Penny Arcade Expo. If you happen to be a Facebook user and planning on attending either of these, check out our page on Facebook and mark your attendance.

Speaking of GamesCom and PAX, I wanted to go ahead and let all of you know things may be a little quiet around here for the next few weeks. For example, this week's update with be Threat of Peace #12.

After we get through these next few weeks, we have a lot of content in store for all of you. Our updates at the convention (and after them) will also include updates to the website for those of you who can't join us there. And yes, there will be some new reveals as well as the Gameplay Demo Walkthrough video.

I was in the gamescom screening yesterday, it was awesome. First they showed the CG Intro on the Big Screen with awesome lightning effects in the room (when a red lightsaber came into the screen the room flashed red :D)

Then they showed much gameplay. First the Bounty Hunter Class, with his Bolter, Flamethrower, etc.
Then they showed the smuggler, Bolter and Kick in the Nuts (Melee :D), also he has a cover system because he fights intelligent, was pretty nice!

Then they revealed the Sith class, a Imperial Melee class that seemed very strong. He has Force and Lightsaber attacks, the guy presenting often used a quick forcejump forward to get into melee instantly and then finished the enemys with his Lightsaber.

All the characters till now were level 1, after they showed them a bit they jumped to 2 level 8 chars in a Mission.
It was on a Imperial Cruiser and the Sith and Bounty Hunter teamed up on Level 8. There was a Imperial Captain who disobeyed direct orders, and thus he had to get punished. After fighting trough the Cruise to the bridge (they didn't showed that) you had to talk a bit with the Captain. They have the first ever Multiplayer Dialogue System, both players take a choice, then it gets rolled out based on their stats (i guess, they didn't explained it) who really talks. The Dialogues are very well synched (they want to do 3 Languages, English, German and French) and the choices you make have REALLY an impact. For example you could kill the Captain after the dialogue or spare him so you get help for the rest of the mission. The audience was asked what we wanted to do, we spared him and then the mission continued. The captain helped us to get near a Jedi cruiser. It looked very awesome how the in-game cinematics are done, just like you expect from a AAA Single-Player RPG. Then, while outside a Laserbattle between the two Cruisers was going on (you saw it trough the windows) you headed to the hangar of your cruiser, because the Jedis were about to capture it. After defeating some Troopers and Jedi-Padawans, you got to the Boss, a Jedi Master. He was a bit of a battle, but of course the Sith and Bounty Hunter were victorius and they also showed how good you can combine the classes. The Sith held the Jedi up with Force-Grip and then the Bounty hunter used his Flamer on him who did massive damage because the Jedi wasn't able to dodge.
Then the presentation ended and I was completely stunned. This game was not on my list, but now it is a must buy. Also my brother who was with me was overwhelmed, he hates MMOs, because there is no real Story or good Cutscenes, but after this presentation he wants to buy Old Republic, too :D
If they can pull it off, this game is going to be a new standart for all MMORPGs to come!

This shall be my first MMORPG since quitting FFXI, and I hope that it'll tide me over until FFXIV gets a release ( since I believe that Old Republic will be released long before said game ). Everything about it just sounds brilliant. :) Can't wait <3

Im guessing closed beta will start this fall. Both it and Star Trek are shooting for next year and Star Trek enters beta this fall.

A bit off topic from the bump and definitely late, but..

Isn't this because GAF guilds have been made, in the case of WoW, well after people have established themselves across multiple servers and in every other game, hardly anyone plays it anyway?

I think TOR has the following and promise to give us an actual shot at a GAF guild. Though I'd think we'd need to vote on some leadership since there are definitely the WoWtard elitists and meme regurgitators around here.

I would sincerely hope a GAF guild would just be for fun teaming and stuff and not SUPAR SRS BSNSS!

I can do without that pressure, I already have a job, dammit :lol

EDIT: I will probably go on to a Roleplay server anyway :lol :(

I agree. I think perhaps it should start out as a leveling guild and eventually evolve towards casual progression of end-game content, while everyone who gets their kicks out of a more hardcore playstyle can move on. Peacefully.

Yeah, although as my shitty post-editing skills failed to allow me to articulate in good time, I wanna play on an RP server... the SWG ones sounded fucking awesome.

Eh, RP servers don't necessarily mean a more casual or friendly experience. It really depends on the community. You get a new taste of utter ass if you make a bad roll. There can be some really shitty bottom-of-the-barrel fanfic RPing going on, or even worse, condescending roleplaying smart-asses. In SWG's case, it had no official RP servers, but rather individual RPing communities, which I think worked out very well. Actually, I think there was an unofficial RP server designated by the community sometime before the game released. Starstrider, maybe. But it wasn't the only place to do it.

Oh, yeah I know the perils all too well. I played City of Heroes on their unofficial RP server and for a time it was fucking awesome because, as the game part was paper thin back then, people had to craft interesting stories and outside fiction to keep interest up. There was some really, really nice ongoing stuff happening all the time. Then, around the time they set up the cross-faction neutral zone, it all went to absoloute fucking shit. Add on to that they started putting loots and other trinkets in it just became a garbled mess and the decent stuff just vanished.

SWG, back in the day at least from the sounds of it, had in-game mechanics that facilitated this stuff rather than having to come up with everything from scratch yourself to fill in the holes the game left because there wasn't much to it.

Character Bios, 2 classes dedicated to character appearances (entertainer and tailor). It was real easy to get RP in the game. I never did it, but as far as SWG vs WoW it has a lot of stuff to do inside the cities. I always thought that's where SWG beat WoW, you never have anything to do in Stormwind or Ogrimmar except run around the banks.

I don't know if I like them making two seperate classes for good/bad aligned guys. Why would a smuggler not take any work he can get? Why would a Bounty Hunter care about who he hunts? If this is all about uniqueness and story-driven stuff, why not do the KotOR thing and give yourself a good/evil meter you get depending on what quests you do and how you do them?

SWG did it right back in the day, you could be an Imperial or a Rebel. You didn't get locked into a faction like WoW, that's the only place it works since the races are all allied between each other they could co-exist even if they wanted to. SWG had it going in the right direction before they botched it, start from where they left off plz.

Yeah, for one, aesthetically, i really find the game unattractive. But it still looks fun, so maybe i might play it for a month or 2 before i drop it.

Also, does anyone know whether or not this game will have an offline mode?

As much as I doubt it, I definately would prefer the choice.

Personally I think it looks bloody fantastic. Some really nice enviroments.

It basically looks like it'll be a very long KoToR3, which I'm more than happy with. I just really want to play it after watching that though, it looks awesome.

I mean it looks great for a Knights of the Old republic CO-OP game but im still waiting to see the MMO part so far it is just Knights of the Old republic CO-OP.

Still skeptical how this turns into an MMO

The only thing about the art style is that I still don't necessarily like the character models. With that said, the environments are awe-inspiring as far as MMOs are concerned.

As for the actual gameplay and story, it looks great. Revolutionary for MMOs that really brings the single-player quality to an MMO playground.

Hopefully it'll deliver, but it is the MMO that I am watching the most.

That was quite awesome to watch. The only thing that struck me as odd was how few NPC's and other players there were in the first area they showed (Hutta I think). But, that's likely due to this being early footage, and them focusing on the characters and abilities.

I'm guessing that the starship is an instance of some sort, the way it's set up certainly feels like an instanced off area, with the usual trash mobs and a boss, though presented in a much more exciting way than most MMO's I've played. Looking forward to this, here's hoping for an early 2010 launch!

Looks awesome. The random sound effects make me geek out.

I just wonder how patient the average group will be during the flashpoints.

COME ON SKIP GOGOGOGOGOGOGO

I think I'll only do those with friends. :lol

Reminds me of guild wars. Thank goodness people could not speak during those, as i am sure that is what they would be saying.

I had a nerdgasm when the bounty hunter and sith warrior started mowing dudes down. Im actually getting giddy at the thought of playing this game. :lol

The idea of the most iconic Star Wars archetypes getting together and creating some havoc is going to be a huge selling point.

Game looks better every time i see something new about it. If you figure the game is 2-3 years away.. thats a lot of room to polish it and make it a keeper. Maybe EA will finally have the mainstream hit MMO theyve been looking for since Earth and Beyond.

Game is a 2010 Title. Has been in development since March 2006.

I just have a gut feeling that this game is going to be good. Like, really good.

Yep,now this is a mmorpg that will take away a portion of the WOW userbase. :p

Heck,It's the only mmorpg outside of WOW that I intend to seriously play.At this point and time,it does look like it's a can't miss project unless EA goes crazy with a deadline or something.

I knew WOW was going to be a big hit,but I can already tell that this is going to the quality mmorpg most gamer burned out on WOW are waiting for.Polish up this game until 2011 and we have a winner.

Afaik the release date is still a mystery. Bioware has dodged that question since the games announcement last year.

I think at the latest, it'll release during 2011.

BioWare, on their official forums, said that they are now starting to speed up their updates (next week is a full reveal of the Sith Warrior) although they still aren't in "steady jog mode" with the updates quite yet.

However, I think BioWare intends to release SWTOR late 2010 based on their other projects (Dragon Age is releasing at the end of this year, ME2 is releasing at the beginning of next year, and that leaves SWTOR to release at the middle of, or at the end of, next year).

Bioware is the kind of studio where a year can go by without any major releases. 2008 just had the Sonic game. And there was almost 2 years between Jade Empire in 2005 and Mass Effect in 2007 with no releases at all. i might just be wrong and TOR might come out 2010 holiday season but i just dont see it happening. Hopefully release date info will be coming soon.

Almost going head to head with WOW: Cataclysm which should be released around that time?

Is this really the optimal opportunity to release the game? :p

I think thats a situation EA cannot avoid. Blizzard could sit on cataclysm delibertly because 2 Scifi MMOs are 2010 Star Wars and Star Trek. Both will have hardcore fans who no matter what will be there day one.

Plan the expansion to try and counter people going away to try them at least temporarily for the new wow content

Probably the best looking MMORPG I have ever seen that is still pre-Alpha. Pretty mind blowing to be honest.

Can't wait to learn more about the MMO aspects. Economy, PVP, PVE etc..
