Honestly, I'm fine with a PvP server and I'm one of the most casual MMO players here. The more I think about it, the more exciting it seems to walk over a hill and see a Sith Assassin just waiting to take me out.

Also, why does every GAF MMO guild have be PvE or on a PvE server? Seriously cuts into my interest in playing with the GAF guild, it's annoying.

Because if I want PvP I'll play Counterstrike or TF2 or Quake 3.

The PvP/PvE issue has always been the most divisive issue in MMO's I think. It's almost an entirely black and white issue. Either you like it or you hate it. I wouldn't mind PvP if there was a way to do something about the bullshit griefers. I can't stand being constantly killed by higher level characters with nothing else to do, even more so when oftentimes my playing time is limited and all I want to do is some quest grinding, and instead spend the entire time hiding from assholes.

It might work better if they actually designed PvP servers to be pure PvP with completely different questing/leveling system based around fighting the other faction, while PvE servers get the more traditional questing/instances. Of course this would be like designing two different MMO's in the same setting, so it will never happen.

We have been talking about this on the guild forums. Basically we've decided that since you will very likely be able to flag yourself for PVP anyway, PVE is the best of both worlds.

Not really. Optional pvp flagging totally changes the game and is a completely different experience, a much more boring, staid experience in my opinion. Considering how quick and easy the leveling experience is these days, I'm not sure why anyone would pick a PvE server over a PvP. You exchange an enormous amount of fun and content just to eliminate the risk of dying a few times in the week it takes you to hit the level cap? Makes no sense to me. Even people who only PvE, you just sit around capitals and run instances all day, playing on a PvP server doesn't effect that.

Open world PvP is totally different than any of that, and one of the main reasons I love MMO's. I can't wait until this battleground, instanced garbage stops dominating the genre.

I'm hoping SWTOR has whole planets designed around PvP, where the quests, story, and objectives are all centered around the war with the other faction.

I'll make a PvP guild if you guys want. I prefer PvP over PvE as well because it makes for a more exciting experience.

Would you want Rep or Empire?

I'm traditionally a more PvP centered guy but I have to agree with czartim on this one. The guild itself is really meant to be casual and as such, some people don't want to be forced into dealing with ganking.

So PvE server really is the best of both worlds. Though you won't have the complete luxury of a PvP system. You can still keep yourself flagged to simulate the same feeling if you so choose. :shrug

While the overall feel of the game would most likely be a fun experience for most, I know that
most people would find it miserable at times. There should be no reason to make someone change up their playstyle just because a couple people want to go PVP. PVE lets you do both (in a way) without being ganked by a stupid group for hours. I think overall both guilds will be fairly casual with a focus on the end game by some guildies, but a more social environment than anything else.

Go and get some friends or guildies together and hunt the griefer down? Ask some folks on your side in the zone to help take him out? Believe me 5 minutes of camping him and that griefer will flee quicker than you can say "pwnt". Maybe you make a new friend or 2 in the process. You'll certainly have a greater appreciation for your Republic/Empire mates and the war will certainly feel more authentic than if you only pvp in some closed-ctf-arena type area.

There are many ways to handle that situation. But it is a big pain for folks because you'd have to *gasp* stop questing for about 15 minutes.

What class do you think will be more suitable for griefing?

Consular Shadow by far. It's built to grief. We already know they have a force ability to go invisible, than they have burst damage they can do to you in the last second while you're still unaware of there presence. And we're not getting into the possible CC's they'll have. Pure greifers all the way. :p

Also I'd say the Trooper class. I mean if they're twinked out, they seem like the class that could charge up a shot, shoot you from a comfortable distance, throw a sticky grenade, cast a fear chant on you and then finish you off with a whack to the head with the butt of their weapon.

I'd agree with Derwind. The Jedi Shadow has many potential griefing abilities.

Mind Maze
Rank 1
440 credits
Force: 50
Instant
Range: 8m
Confuses the target, leaving it bewildered and unable to act for 60s. Damage will break the effect prematurely. This ability is only usable in Stealth mode and cannot be used against a target in combat. Only one target can be incapacitated at any given time.
Level 16

Mind Snap
Rank 1
500 credits
Force: 10
Instant
Cooldown: 9s
Range: 15m
Traps the target's current action and prevents that ability from being used for 4s. Ability Prevention doesn't work yet.
Level 18

Wow I didn't even know about these abilities, makes me love the class more & more. XD

This is why its going to be my main. It just sounds so much fun.

Well that and I love the back story on them. Makes me want to RP as a Shadow. :)

Btw, can you link where you found those abilities, I'd love to read a list of the Shadows abilities in detail.

I've been purposely blocking out any type of research on this game in hopes of not being let down (like I have with every MMO over the past 4 years). After being completely letdown by Rift, I figure what the hell......Sooo,

Where is a good source of information to learn about this game without having to scour threads on a forum for hours and hours? I know of the official site/forums, but it's so spread out.

They have gathered all information so far in just one thread on the official forum and it's fairly easy to find your way around in it: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=188836

Omg...

Force Slow

720 credits
Force: 25
Instant
Cooldown: 6s
Range: 15m
Slows the target's movement speed by 500% for 9s.

This right here made my day. This was basically my role in EQ as a Shaman, I slowed opponents and NPC's the best. The Jedi Shadow is basically a mix of EQ's Shaman & Rogue class. But in a Jedi wrapper.

This is just perfect. =D

And then there are these:

Hemorrhage
Rank 1
600 credits
Force: 30
Instant
Cooldown: 15s
Range: 4m
Finishing move. Deals 100% weapon damage and causes the target to bleed dealing high internal damage over 18s. Shares a cooldown with other finishing moves.
Level 22

A DoT!!! W00T!!!

Low Slash
Rank 1
840 credits
Force: 25
Instant
Cooldown: 15s
Range: 4m
Slashes the target low, dealing 75% weapon damage and incapacitating it for 3s. Damage will end the effect prematurely. Requires double bladed lightsaber.
Level 30

A damage CC!! Double W00T!!!

Low Slash
Rank 1
840 credits
Force: 25
Instant
Cooldown: 15s
Range: 4m
Slashes the target low, dealing 75% weapon damage and incapacitating it for 3s. Damage will end the effect prematurely. Requires double bladed lightsaber.
Level 30

Another CC that does damage!!! Triple W00T!!!!

Run Through
Rank 1
280 credots
Force: 30
Instant
Cooldown: 15s
Range: 4m
Finishing Move: Runs the target through, dealing 250% weapon damage plus moderate damage. Shares a cooldown with other finishing moves. Requires a double-bladed lightsaber.
Level 10

A finishing move??? Is this like Mortal Combat!!!

..

I'm doing a huge happy dance right now! Just picture me doing a huge happy dance!!

And the cool downs are not too bad.

And there's so many buff's....

This is everything I wanted in this class.

Its like the perfect hybrid of caster & melee!!!

THANK YOU BIOWARE!!!

:D

e: at top of page. can't wait for this game!

There's no way this game is going to play on my 2010 Gateway laptop is there?

Looking at the Sith side, Imperial Agent/Sniper sounds fun.

Then again, I see all of us rolling a shit ton of alts. I think Bioware thinks as such as well.

In terms of story, I hope that in addition to exploring Darth Revan, there will be come content about the Jedi Exile as well.

Honestly I am willing to run a more hardcore GAF guild. I don't plan to play this casual at all, so I have no problem making a seperate hardcore guild and connecting it to the other guilds.

We'll talk more about this the closer we get to launch.

Whats the point of creating a totally new guild just for hardcore players? Just join whichever side you plan on playing the most and gather up all the hardcore raiders/pvpers and organize and run it from there. No point in creating a whole seperate GAF guild for the couple 50's your gonna have for end game raids.

It depends how many people from the forum join. I have no idea what the player caps are for the guilds. If they are relatively high, then yeah we can stay with one big guild. If not, we can just form a big allegiance thingy.

I think you'll be safe:
How many players can be in a guild?

A guild in Star Wars: The Old Republic can have 500 individual characters enlisted at a time. Before the game launches, each website account that joins your guild occupies one of these slots. Remember - if you expect to allow multiple characters from one account (alts) into your guild when the game launches, you should monitor your pre-launch guild's members accordingly!

I was so excited I forgot to copy the right skill :p

Hidden Strike
Rank 1
1400 credits
Force: 30
Instant
Range: 4m
Strike from the shadows, dealing 100% weapon damage and stunning the target for 3s. Requires double bladed lightsaber.
Level 50

The lvl 50 ability looks sweet.

What are your specs? Most laptops have been surprising me with their parts lately.

EDIT: The graphics card is the only thing that will matter. Pretty much any 2010 laptop should have a decent cpu and RAM and those won't be the issue.

I started playing KOTOR again, and I've caved. Why are there so many questions on this guild application, Bioware? My last job interview was easier than this.

Just noticed the "tough" character models. Hopefully this means I can finally create the chubby warrior I've always dreamed of in an MMO.
