For those running SC2 on a laptop with an ATI Radeon 5870, what graphics drivers are you using? And what performance do you get?

Marauders with concussion are good against unupgraded zealots, but not chargelots. No, hellions with igniter are a better option.

Especially once you consider that if they have mass zealot, they probably have sentries too. You won't be dancing for long if there's force fields blocking the way.

Unless you're playing against me, in which case there is one force field over my own unit and a line of zealots approaching one unit I accidentally target-fired. :D

Anyone have just one spare key laying around?

I'm pretty sure the begging thread died. Hopefully this ain't against the rules to ask here now.

At a higher level of play this is true, but if I were to guess, low level players will have a much easier time running and stopping with stimmed marauders than trapping with forcefields. I'd even guess that in low level play the shields might miss by a lot and hurt the zealots.

EDIT: PS: Updating now, tonight the war is on.

Anyone else get annoyed when people spout glhf at the start and then pull some bullshit all-in strat? One of the two of us ain't going to be having fun you nitwit.

It's the best way to lower people's defenses.

I feel a little ridiculous in that I cannot wait for the game to go live so I can finally play the tutorial! Maybe I'll be able to repel that initial rush for once after playing through those.

even the menu lags on the mac. the performance is severely down, too.

and you can't stay on 10.6.3 either because SC2 requires 10.6.4.

I am beyond pissed.

I played the beta last night on 10.5.8, not sure how it requires 10.6.4

Of course I am using a Macbook with the X3100 so the game looks like Starcraft 1 but it still runs pretty quick on low everything :lol

It ran faster for me last night then when the Mac Client first launched

I either lie or say some random bullshit to confuse them, works best if your random. Example pick random then announce in chat a race you are not so they fuck up their build order should they beleive you :lol Or "Plz don't die too fast, I want to practice this XXXX Rush" then do a fast expand :D

i always just type fo fo fo fo when they start saying that stuff.

I am assuming fo means fuck off. What is wrong with people in that when someone is trying to show good manners, you have to tell them to fuck off? If fo means something else, I apologize

after such a long break, I'm almost afraid to go back and see if I'ms till King of the Losers.

I feel like I've forgotten how to play.

The internet ruins everyone and makes us all cynical. GLHF is not a show of good manners. =)

What is it then?

If I say good luck to an opponent before a basketball game when we are lining up for the tip off, I wouldn't expect him to tell me to fuck off.

Edit: I bet btkadams wouldn't be so brave if we had some sort of system implemented that showed your real name instead of an internet handle... ;P

It will probably take you about 10 games to get back into it and remember your build orders, etc. Just do it :)

I "gl hf" regardless, one time I gl hf'ed during a worker rush. Ezrarh and I each built one worker and sent our first 6 to one of our enemy's bases, disabled him but ultimately did no damage, said gl hf just before we hit.

We ended up winning too, even though my toss macro was bad, they ended up being worse. I think I posted that replay up here earlier in the thread.

Just dive in dude. It's the only way.

I felt like I was starting at square one yesterday. Of course I still don't really know wtf I am doing. I never played SC1 and only had the SC2 Beta for about a month for the 1st phase before it went down.

I was in gold before, but now, for phase 2, I got bumped down to Bronze :lol

I feel totally lost, but damn its so fun. When I win a game, I want to play again to relive that wonderful feeling, and when I lose I need to play another game to try and win.

well I rolled back to 10.6.3 and SC2 was all like nuh-uh, sorry.

I can tell it's optimized better, but the input lag is still insane.

if i were to mass one terran ground unit to take on chargelots, it'd be marauders with concussion.

it probably does an even better job then hellions and ignitor.
9 damage with no splash is not better than 25 with splash that you can produce 2 at a time of.
Just sayin.

Marauders only look good coz people like to spam the basic units against them (rines, zealots, lings). They get slaughtered by everything else past that.

Yea I don't get it either. There's nothing wrong with glhf...

The thing that's wrong with "glhf" is the idea that if you don't reciprocate, you're an asshole.
(The same goes for "gg").

It's a pointless, insincere pleasantry that I choose to not participate in.

so are you one of those people that hate it when someone says "bless you" every time you sneeze and dislike it more when people expect you to say thanks?

But you are, gl hf is "common courtesy". You meet someone, you decide to play a game of chess, the least you do is say "Hi". This isn't some 40 man TF2 server where you coming and going is hardly noticed, this is a pretty personal thing. So try and be nice and breed a good athmosphere.

And you don't have to gg but say something, even "damn, thx, bye" is vastly better than simply rage quitting. Is nice :)

Yes to "bless you", but only because it's futile - I sneeze in bursts of 40.
I am more than happy to engage in standard pleasantries in person.
I am more than happy to exchange them online with total strangers.

But for random matchups, I simply don't see the point in following the standard script.
It is insincere. You are not wishing the person good luck. You are competing against them, hoping they lose. Hell, I know people who time when they say it in an attempt make their opponent take a second to respond during a key point in the initial few seconds of the game.

Saying "gg" is even more insincere. Most of the time "gg" is said by soon-to-be victors, and it comes off as "I win, you lose!". Other times it's said by one person on a team, as a way to deride their allies' performance. Other times it is said by the soon-to-be loser as "You got me.".
Rarely is it actually used to mean "good game".

Do whatever you want, but I choose to say "good luck" or "good game" only when I actually mean it.
The problem I have with it (as I stated) is that if you don't mindlessly spam "glhf" and "gg" at the start and end of every game, people then think you're an asshole.

GG I can understand if you end up having a long game that goes back and forth. GLHF is a completely hollow gesture I find. I don't want to wish my opponent good luck. I want to win. Him or her having good luck means I can lose. Have fun also is something I don't do. Them having fun is them proxying me and I hate that. A simple hi or hello is fine I think though at the beginning of a game.

Anyway other then is anyone having worse lag then before? To the point where the screen freezes for almost a minute, the waiting box doesn't appear, but then unfreezes? Last game I played I think the other player had it as well.

Thats the problem right there, noone thinks you're an asshole, its something you concocted up in your brain because of your guilty conscience which makes you really an asshole. You're also confusing GG with GG NO RE.

gl hf is as much a part of my game starting process as apm spam is, it's automatic. I don't care if the person responds, I really don't care what they respond with. I'll talk a little with them if they say something interesting or have an interesting name. Otherwise, I don't really process or care about what the other person is saying because I'm playing Starcraft, and to play it well you've gotta be fast and focused.

I live for game ending comments though, my favorites are from winning with proxy hatch, always hilarious.

Also, this is taking forever to update. The download was initially at like 340 kb/s and going very fast, now it's going between 8 and 25, anyone else seeing this? There aren't any options for me to play with either =\

The meaning of GLHF and GG has changed over the course of their use, and means more than what they just say. It's part of etiquette. A gesture of good spirited competition, similar to touching gloves in boxing, or a handshake at the end of a tennis match. You aren't wishing your competitor luck in winning the match. You're acknowledging him and wishing him the best, as he should to you. GG should only be called by the loser, signalling the end of the game. Almost always bitterly, but being satisfied that the outcome was fair. The victor should return with a similar gesture. These are the types of things that bring a sense of healthy competition. You should not be mindlessly saying it, although it is certain that there people out there that do. But by not doing it at all, you aren't treating the game with any of its due respects. It doesn't matter if your opponent is random or not, they are still part of the community.

Yeah, you're an asshole.

Yo Alum, I'm trying to add you, but I'm on a wireless connection atm and it's not very reliable. Let me know if you didn't get the friend invite.

Man, sometimes life is unfair. The new PC I ordered finally came in yesterday, and I was planning an entire weekend of Starcraft 2 shenanigans. Unfortunately, the videocard is borked meaning the game freezes up after a couple minutes. So no beta for me.
