State of Decay Year One Survival Edition |OT| More P's, Less D's

I'm trying to get the 'home on the grange' achievement and read that if you tell quentin about becca you can still get the achievement as the quest continues late in the game. I only have a few missions left and haven't got the side mission to complete their quest line. Anybody know whats up?

You shouldn't need to do anything to get the next step in the quest, but I recall there being a huge gap of time passing between the two.

So I'm pretty sure something has gone wrong with Breakdown. I'm on level 3, and it's MUCH more difficult than the original version, even when I was at level 7. The third supply drop has landed and there's literally no way of clearing the area. Death From Above kills most of them then they instantly respawn. There are so many zombies surrounding it that I can't even collide with them in a vehicle (hence why I'm sure it's a bug). If I get out and try to kill them with an LMG, as difficult as it is, even if I kill most of them, they respawn instantly as another horde and come back. There's literally no way of freeing the area for the game to even let me search the drop (searches cancel if you're near a zombie), let alone a way of making it out alive.

Do I have to start over?

I've noticed the supply drops in the story mode are almost impossible to clear.. I got like 1, then the rest I failed because they would interrupt at the wrong times or there is a crazy amount of zombies that will just spawn quickly...

Which of the 3 game modes is the most fun? I've kind of played 1/2 through the original content when it first came out.

I think something is broken with the difficulty modifiers. Breakdown level 2 to level 3 is the biggest jump I've ever seen. It's not just me being bad at the game because like I said, even up to around level 8 was a breeze for me on the original version. Something is definitely different this time but because of how severe the jump is I don't think it's intentional.

Between Breakdown and Lifeline probably. Breakdown is very open ended and you can just survive almost indefinitely if you want. Just try not to progress (ie. "finish" and start over) until whatever's wrong with the difficulty is fixed.

Just for clarification, this is how bad my situation is.

This is Breakdown level 3. If I kill 10, 10 more will spawn. The game starts to become unstable from so many spawning.

I'm 6 hours in and I feel I'm not really progressing. It's overwhelming how many missions there are in the log, and some of them will just fail in time.

Should I be moving from another home? Any recommended place?

How is the pacing for you guys? Do you just keep doing supply runs over and over?

I feel like I need some tips. Should I help neighbors? Why? Should I make outposts around my home or scattered around the map?

It's really up to you, but as a beginner, I would recommend to moving to Snyder's Trucking Warehouse. That place is a self-sustaining fortress if you set things up right.

Sure. In between missions I'm always out and about searching all the different buildings and finding materials. Sometimes I don't grab anything and it's really just to have spots on the map to go grab later. During the times you're away from the game, your survivors will sometimes go to those locations and loot the place for you!

You should definitely help your neighbors. Sometimes they'll ask for your assistance and you'll get rewarded with materials for helping them out. Given enough time, they'll probably ask to move in with you. This helps with having extra bodies for you to take over and go out on missions etc as your other survivors get hurt or sleepy. Some of these other locations also have a minimum population limit that you need to meet in order to move in.
I would also recommend building outposts around your home base. There's usually a variety of different materials that will help reduce your daily consumption. Also your outposts when rigged with traps expands their safety zone. If you set up your outposts correctly, you should be able to completely negate having hordes descend on your home base.

lol Admiester. youre fucked.
ive only just moved on to breakdown level 2 so i'll be joining you shortly.

I actually made it away fine after that screenshot. You might notice that the stamina bar is brighter in the screenshot, it's a temporary infinite stamina boost you get after eating a snack, I just managed to get in a car and go home.

you ever go for slower stamina drains? i usually choose silent searching.

I always think to myself that I should get the silent searching one, but it always takes forever to get my Wits up to level 7 so I either go for reduced stamina drain or the one that gives you a bit of stamina for melee kills.

Started a Breakdown game today, spawned by a crashed plane. Two zombies run after me so I figure I will take them on, I finish them when a feral jumps at me. I kill it with half health left when two more zombies jump me and then two ferals join in on the fun and rip me in half. Talk about an unlucky spawn.

This game is just as fun as I remember it on the 360. Has anyone done the challenge achievement for the vehicle yet? I really like that the challenges will be giving unique rewards

In the main game I find there's so much asking for my attention that I do a little scavenging here and there, but not that much. I know I need building materials, so I watch for storage buildings and construction sites while I'm doing other missions. Stuff like that. On Breakdown I found I have way more time to actually clear neighborhoods.

I did the monthly challenge for the "cleaner car". You get a car that you can call in for 250 fame and it shows up near you. I think you can do it multiple times per playthrough. The prepper's pack seems to be only once per playthrough though.

So I picked this up on Steam because it was $20 for people who owned the original game. Thing is, I never actually got around to even playing the original game, which I've wanted to play since the PC version was released.

Then I was going to play this after wrapping up my replay of Alan Wake, but now Witcher 3 is just around the corner, and I don't want to start up this 50+ hour game with that looming ahead.

I suppose I'll wait till I finish Witcher 3, then.

And the cycle continues....

You've got 2 weeks. I would just play Breakdown. There's no story in that mode and no way to really beat the game in that mode, so you just play as much or as little as you want, and not have to worry about picking it up later halfway through. Even if you did come back to that save later, there's no story to remember, just base management and survival.

You might want to run through the first hour or two of the main game though, for the tutorial stuff, especially for base management.

Thanks for the tip, I didn't realize there even was an endless mode. I'm installing now and I'll play around with it tonight or tomorrow. Should be fun till I have time to really dig into the story mode.

Breakdown is tough, holy crap. Not sure I did the right thing findign a new home. That thing is getting overrun so fast, again and again. I might start over.

Are you setting up traps around your base? You have to keep an eye on them as they do run out. Costs fuel to keep them going.

You must have done some seriously noisy stuff.

Yeah, outposts are the most vital thing early on after you get a home base. You don't necessarily need to set up traps since they come with traps but with a short range. But eventually the cost of 1 fuel and the length it lasts makes it really desirable.

if you're having trouble on breakdown and need a breather to search for resources or whatever, no hordes will appear if you accept a mission with a companion and simply don't complete the mission. you can keep the companion with you indefinitely (as long as they dont die) while you go out to search for stuff/level up/etc

Randomness sucks sometimes. I've checked 24 supply drops, 6 gunshops, 3 police stations and military bases in three playthroughs so far and still haven't found an incendiary shot gun for the achievement :(.

I hear ya. I finally found one on my second playthrough of Lifeline. Not gonna lie, the gun and the ammo make for some satisfying kills.

Wait, the shotgun has to be incendiary too? Aww, I was assuming you could just use the incendiary ammo in any shotgun.

From what I'm reading, yes. It'll show as the ammo type on the weapon description if it uses the incendiary shells.

Yea I was just looking at my stockpile of various ammo while wielding a shotgun. The regular shotgun shells were highlighted, showing that I could use them with my equipped weapon, but not the incendiary shells. I guess I'll have to wait until I find an incendiary one.

When you pick up a shotgun, it will tell you if it can take incendiary rounds. I thought it might be hidden in the description, but nope, it will tell you explicitly if it can use those rounds.

What's the best way to discover infestations? I want to get that timed achievement for clearing out a certain number in May but I haven't found all that many so far.

Ignore hordes, if they're left long enough and they aren't on the way to your home base, they normally take over a building and trigger an infestation.

Found one on my first try in the exact location this guy did in his video: https://youtu.be/IoLWsFIjr0Q at :41. It's right by the church which makes it pretty easy to check and quit out too, although I luckily didn't have to.

Funnily enough, it turned out to be a different incendiary shotgun than the one he got. I'm curious if each stash in the game has a pool of items it randomly pulls from. I know I found a few guaranteed gun spots that would have one of about six guns in it every time I checked (quitting out and running back to check before it saved the progress).

I've got my base on the other side of the map now, but I just found one in a storage building, and already had a stockpile of like 40 incendiary shells. At first I thought it was just an assault rifle, because of the icon.

I just went after my 5th supply drop. Before heading out I told another guy to come with me, hoping it would make it easier. As soon as I entered the area near the drop, it said he had to go home, and he got out and ran off when I stopped the car. Also, the previous supply drops I've seen lots of zombies, and 1 or 2 special zombies. This time when I got there, there were 2 bloaters, 2 screamers, a feral, and a juggernaut. I managed to clear it out by running over as many as I could without hitting the bloaters and the juggernaut, then sort of ran in circles throwing grenades behind me. Also, I've found the trick to the drops is to get in there and search ASAP, and hold LB (to speed it up). Who cares what hears you, that beacon is bringing more zombies than what noise you might make by searching fast. As soon as you get in and can see the contents of the drop, the beacon turns off. then you can clear the area and load up the loot.

I'm up to level 7 breakdown. No radar help at this point. I didn't even notice I had no radar until I was stranded after a weird vehicle flip and then I died to a hoard plus poor timing by a feral. I mean damn I hit the thing like 7 times with a maxxed out character with edged weapons... then he killed me.

I have to say though, that breakdown is a great approach to new game+. I do wish they had more than just repairing the RV each level though. I feel like there should be more motivation to build up your base other than to get your stat increases from cooking/dojo/infimary etc..

I wasn't doing anything. The supply drops have a massive sound radius and if one zed sees you, the rest follow.

Yeah, that'll happen. You have to turn the thing off by opening it to stop the zombies from spawning.

Man I've done lifeline like 4 times now. Sasquatch dies everytime I have to hunt the juggernaut. Just can't get past it

I find that driving by them causes my character to say infestation out loud marking it down for me.

My problem was that the zombies were breaking the game. There were so many that the game's function - where searching is cancelled if a zombie is near - was stopping me from ever opening it. Cars wouldn't collide with them any more so I couldn't clear out a large amount of them at once. Death from above killed a lot of them but with that you have to wait to go back otherwise it'll hit you, and in that time all the zombies come back.

I've since restarted Breakdown though, I'm happy as it is.

I'm probably missing something really obvious but...

How do you increase your breakdown level? I've been playing for a while and I'm still at level 1. Do I need to repair the RV and continue that quest line?

I've been stuck at 11 survivors forever (RIP Marcus). How do I get more people to join me? I just need one more to move my base to the warehouse.

you do a radio search
that's how you find supplies as well
press up on the D pad if you have xbox
it will bring up your stats etc.. go over to the second to last tab
look for the radio symbol one
look for survivors
