State of Play Confirmed for April 30 (Borderlands 4 Only)

So what? I don't play "sales".
Ok so you agree it's a relevant IP and that it's no surprise it would get a dedicated Title Direct/ SoP, then. That's it. Ok, you don't like Borderlands. That's fine, but why are you here arguing just because you personally don't like something? That's not what the thread is about. Get a grip.

Sooo… What was your original point, exactly? You were hoping that this wouldn't count as Sony's summer showcase, which didn't make sense. This SoP wouldn't be Sony's summer event, because May doesn't start the summer season. I don't think… Any publisher has referred to their June events as, "summer" if they're scheduled before the 20th.
Are you serious? Literally Summer Games Fest has never been after 6/20. "Summer" in video games presentations is merely a non-scientific range of time in "May/Juneish" around what used to be e3. It's not about the literal definition of the word Summer. Why do I have to spell this out for you? I'm old enough to remember when e3 was in early May, not even in June. What's the difference between 4/30 and 5/6? None.

Actual Summer doesn't begin til 6/20, and nothing airs that late. Like what are you even talking about? Why would you tag me and come out swinging with your comment when you don't even know the answer to your own thesis?

Good grief, this place. Just absolutely mind-numbing sometimes.

The whole reason I watch State of Plays etc is the off chance that something good gets announced I wasn't expecting. Who wants to watch an informercial for 1 game? I wouldn't even do this for a game I was really looking forward to. You would have to pay me to watch Randy "magic USB drive" Pitchford talking about anything for 20 mins.

Well if you're one of those ~25 million BL fans, no doubt you'd be elated for a 20 min deep dive. You'd think with all the whining and complaining here, this was the first time there was a SoP dedicated to a one game (it's happened 3 or 4 times during the PS5 era).

I was excited about Borderlands 4 (hopefully the story can quit forcing the most dumb stuff like B3 did) but when I saw how it looked? Nah, I have Borderlands already. The game looks exactly the same and it's been over 2 gens now.

Because YOU said so? Borderlands 3 sold over 20 million copies. Don't like it, don't tune in.
Let us not pretend Borderlands 3 was an actual improvement over Borderlands 2 in many ways.

Maybe a few, if that.

People were hankering for a sequel though. That doesnt make it good.

Transformers movies did bank at the box office, so did Minecraft. Are they good movies? Ehhh

So, while sales don't always indicate quality they give a pretty good idea of sentiment regarding a title and the fact is that Borderlands 3 was a overwhelmingly massive success and a beloved entry into a beloved series (despite what the neckbeards at this site will tell you). Also, to the people who think people hate Borderlands now just because of a lame movie , that is ridiculous and void of any measurable data to back that opinion up. Why are you even participating in a chat for a game you don't care about?
Borderlands 3 is not a "beloved entry"

As I'm die hard Borderland franchise lover, it is not justifying my PS5 purchase...........state of play shod be something about PS5 exclusive games.....I can get Borderlands on PS5,PC or Xbox....or maybe Switch 2.
FUCKING PS5 need exclusives. Maybe it is better to stop wasting time & forget everything about consoles & go to PC land.

I am curious about B4. Liked the gameplay in B3, but like most was not a fan of the story. Wonderlands had an ok story, but the gameplay was weak mainly because the weapon selection was kinda meh.

Wow. It's like nearly half of the comments in this thread are just people literally having no idea what they're talking about and not understanding the context.
Not saying Sony has "Nothing" but this is some filler shit if I've ever seen it.

Imagine if Nintendo had a Direct all about the next Crssh Bandicoot (that's also multiplatform). That's kinda questionable and disappointing to say the least.

I like borderlands. However, once the campaign is over, which the story has been lame since 2, I would like more emphasis on end game content...not just a boss or two that are hard, but utilities all the weapons/combos you can get. Maybe how Destiny used to be before the micro transactions destroyed it.

They did it with Hogwarts Legacy in April 2022, I don't remember all the complaining then. The SoP for that was really cool. The first deep dive into actual gameplay. BL is a huge IP, this is its chance to show what they've got up their sleeves for it. I don't see what this takes away from the rest of their announced & unannounced lineup. It's a really heavy year for major titles.

Are you really comparing a nostalgia imbued remake of one of the best games from the PS1 era and a game which is part of one of the biggest multimedia IPs out there, with fucking borderlands?

It peaked with BL2 long time ago and BL3 is awful, so much so you have to mute all dialogue to enjoy the gunplay which is the only good thing about that mess of a game 🤦‍♂️

Is this a late April fools day joke? I don't get it. Why a multiplatform game instead of Sony exclusives upcoming or future games?

Actual jumpscare

What is this lesbian on about?

In all seriousness, if they don't have a mission where you need to retrieve a usb stick with questionable content from a medieval-themed restaurant then what are we even doing? Show us you still have a sense of humor Gearbox.

If anything it's because Sony has been extremely quiet this year as far as 1st party titles.

Outside of Days Gone and Marathon (a remaster and a GAAS) The ONLY 2025 title that Sony has even mentioned is the Ghost of Yotei release date, and even then it was announced in a lackluster way.

Playstation owners are "hungry" for new titles this year, and it's already going into May...and the next SOP is...a Mid Multiplatformer?? You can see how Playstation owners may be a bit miffed at Sony and their handling of 2025 thus far...but yea, like you said "E3 season" is coming...and hopefully they have something of actual substance to show for the 2nd half of 2025

Cant wait for Handsome jack comeback haha!!! PS wants good relationship with third party since PS has become the main platform for all games. I just wish SOP is more on Sony exclusives 1st and 2nd party.

There are no new titles (from Sony). They put most of their resources into gaas shit and most of those games were canceled. It will take years to recover from these mistakes, probably PS6 launch will be a banger though.
