{State of Play] New Forspoken Trailer

As a person that LOVES the main character so far, I would say this chick would have fit better. The Agnis chick's clothes "felt" more fantasy like. My girl in Forspoken always seem to be wearing jeans and a flannel sweater. :-/

I think that's the point. They want todays players to feel like they're pulled into a fantasy world. They want us to identify with the main character.

I'm conscious of straying into hyperbole, but I genuinely think it looks worse than an average PS4 title. It's miles behind average next gen stuff like Deathloop and Returnal. And just completely and utterly obliterated by the best visuals like Horizon 2 and R&C.

Most games will look average visually compared to stuff like R&C and especially Forbidden West, but those are also 1P games from two of the best studios in the industry, with access to arguably the best resources around for games development. It's kind of unfair to compare a 3P title to them in that respect that isn't Rockstar, even if it's from a publisher like Square-Enix.

That said I think you're being pretty hyperbolic in fact; this looks a lot better than an average PS4 game. With the extra time I'm sure other aspects of the presentation will be improved even further.

Yea, her design has much more of that FInal Fantasy DNA.
The character designs in Forspoken are all over the place for me; some are boring, some are cool.
The use of photoscanned actors is not working in thier favor imo, they're walking that uncanny valley line.

Well.....if that's the case (I think you may be right), I hope the main character ends up with some fantasy clothes on at some point and takes off that "NYC" outfit. She looks out of place, but maybe this is the beginning of the game and she'll change clothes later.

Like look at the look of one of the main bosses in the game. She looks cool to me.

Terrible trailer.

I cannot stand these generic pop-rap electronic songs in these sizzle trailers.

The battle system and visual effetcs are so cool. Hopefully they can get this to keep to a mostly locked framerate by October.

Are you trying to say that "uh uh uh yah, yahhh, uh u huh. Nothin can stop me yuh uh" is not suitable for a Japanese developed high fantasy game, fam?

Thought it was the stream quality giving a bad impression yesterday but this looks low key ugly. It's just so messy looking with the low quality fx everywhere. I'm sure YT compression isn't helping too, but still.

The main problem I have with that is that I just disagree that it looks as good as you say it does. Frankly, I think it looks shit, and worse than the average PS4 game. I've watched the trailer multiple times on different devices, and I really genuinely think it looks that bad.

I don't know what other people are seeing, but there we are.

Graphics are good, particularly lighting but everything else looks bad. Full of jank and wayyyyyyyy too many particle effects. The trailer editing was god awful.

Maybe it's an artstyle preference? Also admittedly the framerate's still slightly jerky, that's probably down to framepacing issues which will be ironed out with optimizations. Some assets could also be placeholders and get upgraded as development nears closer to completion.

On a pure technical level though, I just don't see how an average PS4 game is better-looking than Forespoken, especially if Forespoken has a 60 FPS option. But if you're comparing it against almost any number of Sony 1P games there for instance I'd say those are clearly above most typical 3P PS4 releases on a technical level.

I wonder if there will ever be an open world game tat gets released where people don't remark on how empty the open world is.

Maybe an average playstation first party game, which is already above average

It's difficult because I don't have the technical knowledge to identify exactly what about it looks so bad to me.

It's more or less looked worse and worse each time they've shown it. I think even in past poor showings there were one or two scenes that stood out and looked better, whereas with this new trailer I think every single shot looked well below what I'd expect of a next gen game.

That combined with the 5 month delay to me just makes it blatantly obvious that the development is undergoing serious difficulties.

As for the average PS4 game comments, I suppose thing a like Shadow of the Tomb Raider and the last few Assassin's Creed games would be reasonable examples. Big AAA games but nothing particularly outstanding on the visual front. To me they all look way better than this.

Weird. It looks way better to me than the last few showings particularly the desert and forest lake sections and some of that foliage. Some of the effects looked bad though. Deathloop looks likes crap in comparison to that trailer.

I dont think i agree with this. The game looks better than FF15, which already looked on par or better than those games you mentioned.

You may not like the aesthetic but there is no way this game is on par with those games you mentioned

Um but those gifs are from (I think) the second ever showing of the game, probably at least a year ago now. From memory I seem to think I thought it looked perhaps SLIGHTLY less impressive than the reveal buy still very good.

As I said, the game has more or less deteriorated with every showing. Similar scenes in the new trailer look MUCH worse.

The shot of FFXV there also looks significantly better than the game in its current state IMO.

Its weird how during the presentation they never refer to it as a square enix game. Like, square enix would rather take credit for Valkyrie Elysium and diofield chronicals then this game?

I think Deathloop is gorgeous but I know I'm in the tiny minority there. I'd post screens of it if I thought people would listen but I really don't think they would.

As opposed to what jrpg, xenoblade chronicles?
JRPGs rarely ever take themselves seriously. They are aware how cheesy they are and play with it.
This crap here is the gaming equivalent of 12 year olds making gang signs thinking they are so grown up.....
The "How do you do fellow kids"-meme as a game trailer......

Outside of the resolution i guess im not seeing a huge difference. Looks practically the same. Although the grass enviornments do look better

I dunno what to tell you dude. I see a very large difference in quality. Everything looks much flatter and worse lit than before. I'd even say the environmental geometry has been significantly simplified. And it certainly doesn't help that the magical effects themselves are all so ugly and sort of grainy looking - even if that's somehow by design. I dunno, it's kind of pointless trying to dissect it really. The upshot is still just that I think it looks bad and way worse than before and you don't.
