That's good.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Hey Jasec, have you seen Hozier's new music video?

Yeah. The video was announced a few days ago and Twitter was aflutter for a little while following its release. It puts those ever-expressive eyes to good use, but I was under the impression it'd be from the perspective of a male victim and Saoirse was to play the abuser.

He was talking about Firewatch and not the Witness.

The Witness' shadows didn't actually bother me. Unfortunately. I can't say the same for those in Firewatch.

Just seen Deadpool, loved it. Game is 50% off and I'm tempted just cos I'm in the mood.

You crafty bastards ATVI.

It's nothing like Uncharted 2. Never understood why you made that reference to begin with.

And the story, for what it is, is leaps and bounds better than Uncharted 2 on every level. The only spot it lacks is the type of relationship between Sully/Drake doesn't really have an equivalent. Then again, Lara isn't really written in a tone that's anything like Nathan Drake. The main similarity is the gameplay being similar though Uncharted is more clearly a Gears-esque cover-based TPS while RotTR doesn't really focus on cover as much.

Story spoilers for overall plots of Uncharted, Uncharted 2, and RotTR:
Uncharted 2 deals with stealing an artifact and eventually opening a portal to another dimension where an addictive drug has turned humans into roidrage afflicted smurfs.

RotTR deals with chasing a myth/legend that ruined Lara's fathers reputation and lead to his suicide. That myth is true and has to do with what comes down to a man who was made immortal by something unnatural and protecting that artifact from falling into the hands of the wrong people.

Truth be told it's probably closer to the original Uncharted, since in that Drake was chasing a myth nobody believed in and found an artifact that cursed people and turned them undead-like.

I know we've had this discussion before at the start of the month :p
But I have to disagree

UC2 at least has interesting characters that I felt connections with where as I found no one in ROTTER interesting.
And I'm trying not to be reductive but there are some big broad stroke similarities between them.

Both involve the search for a hidden lost city in the snowy mountains, with the search for a mystical mcguffin protected by similarly mystically affected indigenous populations, and the villain's camp is partly helmed by a central betraying character close to the main one.

Alan Wake was good, played through it twice. Still haven't played the DLC though.

Will play Alan Wake 2.

I really want to hear what the deliberations were like for that Rise of the Tomb Raider best writing award.
I enjoyed collecting things in Alan Wake. American Nightmare... not so much. ;)

American Nightmare took Alan Wake's half-baked gameplay and turned it into... something.

Just bought the Japan exclusive Konami Style MGSV LE with full size Snake arm.

!!PLAY TIME UPDATE!!

7XhpGbO.jpg

268 hours for me on Steam. But the in game play time says 226. So I guess that means I sat around in the chopper for 40 hours? Sounds about right.

Fucking Kojima man. Only he can make a game where you spend so many hours sitting in one spot micromanaging and doing countless amount of maintenance for the very game you are playing.

The master troll of game design. A true legend.

Wow, no kidding.
It looks interesting, but I don't recall having heard a word about it before.

In any case, here it is on Steam:

Not to mention the story ...
"Hey, it's you! You're the guy who wrecked that place!"
"No, that was my evil twin."
"Oh, OK."

I don't actually remember a single thing from the story, except that I was always expecting... more, somehow.

Also I want to add it's a damn shame we don't even have a PC port of Red Dead Revolver. To me that's a bigger sin than no Redemption. That game was all kinds of awesome.
At least PCSX2 makes it nice.

Disagree all you like. It's a free country. ;)
But you could really use a bit of help with acronym based abbreviations for games, it seems. :lol

For the record, I had 0 real problems with the RotTR story, so your prediction there didn't pan out.

As for broad stroke similarities, I'm sure a lot of interesting comparisons could be made between any numberofliisely correlated stories. ;)

The villain for Rise of the Tomb Raider was delightfully chessy and over the top. I really liked him. Especially the final confrontation. Wish there was more of him in the game.
Honestly to me TR2013 to ROTTR was similar to the jump of UC1 to UC2 (sans CorrosiveFrost opinion on the matter).
I would play that shit again if I didn't have so much on my plate.
