Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Edit: Gave away 7 keys or so, my wallet says NO MORE. Giveaway over!

Anyone here who likes GOOD 2D puzzle platformers and is willing to play through an 6-8 hour game within the next 3-4 days and write impressions on his experience? Not just at the end, but like play a bit, post what you think, play some more, see whether the game fits your expectations etc. You are not required to like it or write GOOD things about it, but I like the game so much that I am willing to pay the 5$ for the game for ~4 people if the OT of Full Bore will get bumped some more. The basic idea is of course to help the thread staying afloat, and since it costs me a bit, I'd appreciate if you only "apply" if you can post about your impressions and play more than just an hour. It would be cool if you could still write a general post afterwards in the monthly Indie thread of October to share your overall impressions here as well once you got a good idea of the game, but one post is enough here (while the Full Bore thread needs multiple bumps as long as the sale is still going on).

If you are interested, quote this post. I will not necessarily pick the first 4 quotes, so feel free to mention you are interested, even this post has already been quoted 4 times. I will see about that later depending on how many people and who is interested.

The game is currently Desura only, but will eventually give you a Steam key.

Ooh, fancy. Great choices. I'd love you to try Full Bore and post some impressions over in the OT, but please let us know in the Indie thread if you have some impressions on The Last Day of the Decade. Great choices! The Sea will claim everything is a lovely game as well.

There's a very good chance that by tomorrow I'll have forgotten that I've bought the games, my memory only being rejigged upon the handing out of Steam keys. :p

I'm totally in if you still have a seat for me.
Full Bore is really tempting me but budget is tight. And the "write feedback posts" requirement is nice.

Hmm. Could Minerva's Den be close?

It being updated 15 hours ago after a month of nothing might suggest it's passed QA and 2K is in the process of rolling everything out. Curiously, the original BioShock sub was updated 15 hours ago, too, although the app itself hasn't been updated in any meaningful manner in yonks.\

If it does come out, would I need Bio2 for it? I own a retail copy of that, but that isn't redeemable on steam.

Yes. It's not standalone, although 2K may make GFWL/retail Bio2 keys retroactively Steam-friendly a la Sega and the original Company of Heroes games.

It's also been added to about 15 different 2K/Bioshock related subs.

Did they just changed the time played on games again? I can't see where it is now fellow GAFfers. I only see the "Last played"

That particular stat is missing for a lot of people.

Edit: I'm not going to sleep tonight until one of these bloody games I'm idling in coughs up a foil.

I like good puzzle platformers, and I like games with the Toma seal of approval. I don't know that I will necessarily play through the whole thing in the next four days, but I'd try to play as much as possible and give impressions.

You are the last, 7th I think, key I am going to gift for this because I know you are a great dude. I spent enough money on gifting a game I have no affiliation with now :p

Just saw this e-mail in my inbox:

Welcome to the Nightmare
You've been selected to participate in F.E.A.R. Online Alpha test! Now's your chance to be one of the first on the front lines to battle against enemy soldiers and the hellish aftermath of Project Origin.

Well, the title is appropriate. It's my worst nightmare, at least they got that right.

This alpha test is currently under a non-disclosure agreement (NDA). That means you aren't permitted to talk about your experiences outside of the Alpha Forums. Please report any issues you identify on our Alpha Forums. Redeem the code provided above and steady your nerves as the F.E.A.R. consumes you...
Oh, so I won't be able to tell you guys if this game is any good. But yeah, I hope the F.E.A.R. consumes me and kills me soon. After this, I'll probably not want to live anymore.

(though if I haven't offed myself after the shitfest that was the third game, I don't think I ever will)

I'm interested, I love puzzle platformers. Even if you don't choose me though, I'm putting this on my wishlist when it comes to Steam because it looks interesting, thanks for the heads up on it. Never heard of it before.

Already gave away 7 keys, so I need to stop spending more money, sorry Mengy :( But if you are interested, the game is cheaper right now than it probably will be for a while after a Steam release (since its 60% off), plus you'll get chapter 2 for free end of the year.

"It's fun, you just have to play it like we, the developers, want you to."

It's crazy when the developers do something right.

I'm all for people playing a game however they want to unless it's playing the game in a way that makes them resent it more just because.

Sort of like when people force themselves to play on hard and then complain that it wasn't fun because it was bullshit difficulty. Or when people look down upon those who play on easy saying "THAT'S CASUAL AND RUINS THE GAME" even though the people playing on easy do so because that is how they enjoyed the game the most.

Deathtrap Dungeon now on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/245010/

Built by a mad baron to bring notoriety to his town, only the brave or foolish would dare to enter Deathtrap Dungeon. Fabulous riches await the victor. Many adventurers have tried - none have come out alive…

As Red Lotus, the alluring assassin, or Chaindog, the savage warrior, you must battle your way to the heart of the dungeon and slay the great dragon, Melkor, mightiest of all the beasts of the underworld. If you succeed, gold and glory will be yours. If you fail, your sole reward is death.

A hellish horde of monsters await you in subterranean pits and passageways. A host of weapons, spells and charms are available - you will need them, for you are about to embark on a heart-stopping journey filled with brutal combat, deadly traps and the darkest magic.

Features:
• 38 massive levels
• 53 different AI controlled monsters
• 32 different weapons, spells and charms to find and use!

Anybody play this before?

But did you play the 3rd game in co-op with a friend?

Because it's fun that way.
No, I already said several times that I don't know anyone who owns the game and wants to play it with me. Nor would I want them to suffer through that.

The problem is, even if the game is fun in co-op, that's not what I want from a F.E.A.R. game. Besides, I fail to see how having another player besides me will help enhance the atmosphere (which wasn't any good in SP to begin with); if any, I'll have to play at their pace, which will make me dislike it even more.

And I doubt the co-op mode will get rid of all the arena-style scenes and ridiculous plot and dialogue.

Anybody play this before?

I remember the year, where I was living, the platform I bought it for, the excessively high import price I paid for it. I remember the time of day, I could even take you to the shop if its even still there.
I remember stopping the taxi on the way home twice so I could buy beer and a pizza, I remember booting it for the first time.

What can I remember of the game? Nothing at all apart from lol'ing at the female armor.

So let's talk about The Sea Will Claim Everything and Leviathan: The Last Day of the Decade. I didn't know about either game until I saw them on the Not on Steam sale, but they look great, fresh and potentially interesting. I actually bought them both from notonsteam.com (as well as voting on Greenlight), didn't play them yet though.

What do you guys think?

hold your horses

There may be a reason you haven't heard it was coming...

Haven't played it, but everything I've seen of it seems pretty rotten. Tread with caution.

No.
Back away from the turd.
Now.

The original Flashback was magical because it took the mechanics of Out of This World and made it into an adventure shooter. Reading the Steam Store review makes me think that whoever was the driving force of this new game wasn't in touch with or has lost that magic from the original.

"The team modernized gameplay mechanics, making the game more reactive, offering new features, like gadgets and an experience progression system. But the developers kept the original formula in mind: a fine balance between rolling and shooting, exploring remote space stations and obliterating hostile alien planets. " OfficeNo.jpg

This is why I love GAF. My $10 is saved from the Flashback nightmare.

You all are scholars and gentlemen. Thank you for the feedback :)

Small hint, if you want feedback on non-Steam indies, the monthly Indie thread is probably the better place to ask:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=688767

The sea will claim everything gets a clear recommendation from me, we had lots of impressions during the april thread or something. Quote: "It seems like a game made by a 5 year old who read Nietzsche". Very clever, smart, funny and playful adventure game. If you want to buy it, prepare for LOTS of interesting/funny and smart item descriptions and flavour text. I can totally see how you'd need to be in the mood for this kind of game.

Also, there is a smaller free game by the same dev which is similar, just on a way smaller scale:
http://landsofdream.net/games/the-fabulous-screech/

If you like that, but think its not fully realized and needs more of everything, TSWCE is something for you.

Hey Stump. I downloaded the Flashback demo on teh Steams and I liked it there too. It looked really sweet at 60 fps compared to the XBLA version. And super crisp too. You can't stop this 75% off train.

Semi-related: I do love Another World. I had my first experience with the Steam version when it went on sale recently and I gotta say it's a pretty sweet remake and it holds up really nicely. I kinda wish an indie studio would do an Another World-esque game with a similar visual style. It looks really timeless.
