Why is everyone talking about Assassin's Creed all of a sudden? Did ACIV turn out to be amazing?

Nothing says quality game experience to me quite like devs acknowledging how tedious their game is by offering a bunch of "Time Saver" DLC.

I would buy a "get those last few eggs in a reasonable amount of time" DLC for Faerie Solitaire, but yeah.

Hah! I was thinking about going for ORC instead because I knew less people would be going for it. Then I realized it wasn't the game I'd want to be playing, especially when Revelations is on the table.

I see there are still a few games unclaimed from the Xelios Key Extravaganza.

Playing FTL again. Thought it would be a nice easy (since I picked Easy mode) stroll to relax. Got all the way to the final encounter and not a single store.

Heh, FTL on 'Easy' is no such thing! I have played it for 159 hours, only completed it once and still manage to find ways to stuff up a run pretty regularly. It is oh so awesome though *wub*.

Don't be so hard on it it, it's just an AAA game.

And besides, of course AC4 is going to be boring. I mean, first of all, it has historically accurate sailing, which means plotting courses and sailing with the wind, with careful and precise tacking being the only way to move against it (and even that is arduous)-- it's not like some fast-paced arcadey thing where you can put a ship into reverse. And it has historically accurate trade and economy, requiring you to spend months at a time tanning the hides of monkeys you kill to make new belts. Plus there's the careful attention to the human economy, where the people are realistically simulated and not just an endless swarm of people who say "grazi" after you kill a bunch of soldiers harassing them (without any repercussions for killing hundreds upon hundreds of soldiers).

Maybe you were expecting some fast and loose fun that throws all realism and pretext to the wind and lets you shrug off cannonballs by tightening your abs at the right moment, but this is Assassin's Creed.

Revelations is in the same league I'd say too, it's just that when you play these in order, you're very likely more bored with the latter ones than when you first played the series. Gameplay is the best in ACB and ACR, storywise its the best in AC2.

AC:R had too many gadgets, to the point that I ignore them completely.

They do the same awful things 3 and black flag do, I don't know why 2 and brotherhood get free passes. In fact 2's the one who started this awful Ubisoft open world formula that has now spread to several other IPs of theirs.

I enjoyed Assassin's Creed 1. It wasn't a great game for it's game play, but I loved the wonderful creation of ancient cities. I enjoyed turning off the mini-map and other such gaming aids and relying on learning the city and figuring out what the visual clues given by NPCs were or tips on where to find someone.

Mind, I can't actually replay it. I tried, but never get that far as the "newness" has long worn off. I still very much enjoyed going through the sequels and would recommend Assassin's Creed 2 to try out for those that didn't enjoy the first one. Issues were fixed to a degree that allowed more to enjoy the franchise.

I also recommend the side scrolling action Assassin's Creed game on Nintendo DS. Also quite fun and more straight forward action to those who don't want the tedious aspects.

AC:R had too many gadgets, to point that I ignore them completely.

I havent been following the console threads. What do you mean by this?

Short version: I and others don't think MS planned to release the Xone this year. There's too much wrong especially with the OS, including regressions from the 360 (party system), to list and some things like the horrible loadtimes are almost unacceptable.

The mechanics worked well in AC games, they won't suddenly turn bad when Ubisoft went lazy decided to copy that straight from AC.
