Cheers. You said something about a referral code? If I sign up and refer you, do we both get £5 credit free?

Send me a PM and I'll give you my referral as it only works on new accounts, it's 5$ I'm not sure about other regions though.

Guys Call of Juarez: The Cartel is $20.40 at Greenman Gaming if you use the code GETYO-URWAN-DOUT1. The game is a Steamworks game and doesn't use UbiDRM, Greenman give you a code for Steam on release.

Man, I think the game looks kind of crappy and I still haven't finished Bound in Blood, but $20.40 for a release week game is mental.

Are you feeling lucky punk?

Don’t know what to play? Add an “I’m feeling lucky” button to Steam

Choice paralysis strikes gamers all too often, especially in the wake of a Steam Summer Sale. Dozens of options are just a double-click away, but all you can do is stare at the daunting list of unplayed games, unable to make up your mind.

No longer: Reddit user benmatth took a page from Google’s playbook and created an EXE that, when run, picks a game from your list at random and starts it up. In our first test on Evan’s PC it ran Arma 2 – which, let’s face it, he was gonna do anyway – but this is a great way to make sure that none of your games feel neglected.

Haha, just a couple days ago we had a long discussion about patching games and now Valve fixed it? Great, especially since it can reduce patch downloads from 100MB to like 10MB in most cases.

No more 9gb Witcher 2 updates yay!

Not a strict reply only to you, but a reply to the "fantastic, no more xxx" replies to come, well, I guess here, that games using the now "old" method, like Witcher 2 and Company of Heroes will still have to download the big chunk of data again unless they redo the coding for that particular data file. But that's just my guess, and I hope at least Witcher 2 will have it redone cause I can imagine 9gb is a pain!

So I was originally hoping to make a LTTP thread for Freedom Force but I ultimately gave up half way through. So instead I’ll just post a few of my thoughts in here since hopefully they’ll be brief.

The game is basically a turn based RPG that occurs in real time but can be paused at any time. In addition you can speed it up and slow it down to extremes which is nice when you have to run across a map or feel a battle is progressing too quickly but you don’t want to pause it every other second. It’s set in a Silver Age of comic book themed world and you control a team of superheroes. Both the superheroes and supervillains you will face are as campy as can be, and the voice acting and dialogue mostly fit perfectly. This theme also carries over to the art which is all wonderfully colorful and bright. At first this world and the characters were a lot of fun, a nice recall back to the terrible comic book stories I read as a kid. Unfortunately, I guess I’m just not as fond of those comic books as some others, because while it never got annoying to me, it also wasn’t enough to keep me playing when the mechanics started getting frustrating.

And boy do the mechanics get frustrating. For me, it basically played out like a microRTS game with a pause button. You have 4 heroes (think hero units from Warcraft 3) each with 4-6 powers that you can use that vary from direct melee attacks to buffs/debuffs to ranged projectiles, etc. Every attack has a certain damage quality like fire, ice, etc. and everyone has certain resistances and sensitivities. I love micro, especially micro where I control the speed, and so this was wonderful for me at first. I really loved the first 15-20 levels or so of coming up with a strategy and arranging my guys just so and then watching them pull off the exact move I wanted and feeling so badass. But as your heroes level up, their powers keep getting harder and harder to control and not in a good way. The best example of this is El Diablo, the Human Torch of the game. He’s a fiery latino, and so about 50-75% of the time when you tell him to do something, he decides to overpower it. Unfortunately, if you overpower a special move beyond your energy stores, it stuns you. In addition, his best attack (only useful attack for awhile) is an area of effect fireball that does tons of damage, knockback, and environmental destruct. Power determines the size of effect, so when he overpowers it, he will often hit other heroes causing friendly fire and destroy buildings that were far outside the zone you initially targeted. And he stuns himself. So you have two choices – either only use the fireball when it’s overpowered, or stay on him every time you give him an order and if he yells “Overpower!” pause the game, and give him the exact order again. Of course, he may choose to overpower it again, and you’ll have to pause again, and give the order again, repeat ad nauseum. The targeting system can also be kind of wack. I’ll tell a hero to target one part of a roof, and instead he targets a completely different part of the building. This can obviously have dire effects. Sometimes you can catch this and retarget to a slightly different area and sometimes you can’t.

Fighting with my heroes to get them to do what I wanted them to do eventually just became frustrating to the point that the game wasn’t fun anymore for me.

Open Steam, close your eyes, wave your mouse around like a maniac and then stop. Play what it's over.

I just saved you bandwidth and HDD space. You're welcome!

I've done that before. And my response to seeing my selection: "Ah, hell, no. I ain't playing that." Maybe this is why I didn't buy as many games during the summer sale:)

Recieved an answer for my "cant recieve gifts" issue:

Hello Pablo, When one of your friends in having trouble sending gifts to you, they will have to contact Steam Support regarding the issue. We will then be able to assist them with the purchase that they are trying to make. If you have any further questions, please let us know - we will be happy to assist you.

Right, so even though i already clarified that it doesnt work for ANY of my friends, making pretty clear that the problem is on my side and not theirs, they will still need to contact support. And if someone might want to send me a gift that is a daily deal, he'll have to wait for steam support to respond, wich in itself ussually takes more than a day. Makes no sense.

Ugh, fucking customer support.

That sucks. Can you not ask them to elevate your problem since something's clearly up?

no one tried to gift me anything since the sales are over, maybe it was due to the massive server usage or something. I'll wait to see if it fixed itself, if not i'll contact them again.

I seem to be extremely lucky with Steam support, I sent a ticket in the middle of the sale and exchanged multiple messages on the same day and they were very helpful.

Right, so if we'll just gift you something so you can test it, I see where this is going...

That's very nice. I was using a jury-rigged method for download scheduling because I'm on satellite atm so this is a very important update for me.

i tried it with someone during the sales (offering to pay for it through paypal) and it didnt worked

It kind of extreme to use a 'I feel lucky' for a database that you can order yourself in 'stuff to do' and 'junk'.

You could also consider selling your full steamaccount. And going to a rent structure if a digital version of that is to emerge in the future. Which I would think is going to happen sooner then we expect it anyway, looking at OnLive and Gaikai as tools to create that kind of market.
(getting people to accept an idea of renting a game for 5 bucks versus having to wait for a sale to buy it permanently at that price where it will just hang out as junk anyway)

but that is speculative future babble on my part.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I'm sorry. There is just way too much other stuff to focus on in that picture.

Clean behind that monitor.

Or get a bigger monitor so we don't have to see it in your photo.

For the love of God.

Looks like a hamburger wrapper on the top-left.

But nice controller!

It's a paper bag that I use to hyperventilate in when I try to brag about my stuff and everyone focuses on the wrong stuff. Brb going to run down to the IMAX and take a picture of my control in front of that.

Glad to see the download system is getting an overhaul.

Nice to have another confirmation of a 2011 DOTA 2 release there as well. Really wish they'd let out some info so I can get hyped.

This happened to me when I switched the client language to English so I could answer someone's question. When I restarted, suddenly it was redownloading every single game that had the option of switching languages. Didn't even ask me if that's what I wanted to do. I don't know if this is the same situation.
