So uh...I don't want to see any complaining ever again about Steam downloads going slowly at only 1mb/second.

When I'm paying for internet that's supposed to go three times that, I shall expect faster :P

I've been looking all over searching and can't seem to find anything so I'm guessing it can't be done but I figured maybe my fellow GAF members might know. You know when you add non steam games to your library, how they have a tiny icon in grid view? Any way to change that?

With EA withholding Battlefield 3 from Steam, could this be the beginning of EA taking away all of their games from the service? I'm just wondering if I should buy the DeathSpank games while they're available instead of waiting on a sale later on.

Man, you're getting screwed. I thought their lowest was 1.5 mbps. I'm glad AT&T implemented data caps and forced my hand into actually looking into alternatives for cheap internet. I basically switched to a local company that is giving me twice the connection speed (probably could get even better if I updated my house's wiring) with no data caps or contracts for less money. Seems I am in the overwhelming minority as far as alternatives go, though, since it seems most people only have one, maybe two choices for internet where they live.

out of nowhere

keeps going too, Portal and Zeno Clash also downloading

I had all these games installed
This usually happens when game files are corrupt (or more likely) Steam thinks your game files are corrupt.

I doubt they'd disappear but I'd expect fewer discounts and not every title being released on Steam. BF3 and TOR serve as huge draws for their service. DeathSpank? Well maybe!

That's how it's always been. EA never put up any of the Pandemic PC ports and a bunch of other PC games on Steam.

Looks fine to me, I'd rather have a monitor with a decent dot pitch then a huge ass TV

Although it could use a clean :p

Real PC gamers use nothing less than 1920x1200

Why would anyone stop you from buying a good game?

Not my fault manufacturers are trying to force movie ratios instead of desktop ratios.

While serious I'm being facetious if you didn't notice

But it's not dying because the technology is outmoded or anything! It's Betamax, it's dying because most folks don't give a shit about the benefits and it's cheaper for panel manufacturers to stick to a single aspect ratio :(

Good enough reason for me to want to switch to a 1920x1080 monitor.

Yeah, I know my next monitor will be 16:9 too. The prices of the 16:9 stuff keeps dropping while the 16:10 stuff is getting more expensive. C'est la vie :)

blergh, ive been PC gaming since the beggining and im comfy with 1360x768 on a 26 inch.

real people with real money realize that having a stellar performance is much better than spending on a whole pc upgrade to get the same framerate on a 1920x1200 screen, specially when the only thing you gain is pixel fidelity, cause i would probably have to get a smaller screen.

you peeps complain when your BF3 runs choppy, i'll be playing at max settings with my single gtx560ti because of this "crappy" resolution, huzza!

Mafia II was probably my GotY last year, it's rare for me to sit down and blast through a 10+ hour game in a week and be completely satisfied with the experience but that's just what happened with Mafia II. I loved it from start to finish. I liked the story, the characters, the setting, the idealised take on the era(s) but most of all I liked that Mafia II was essentially a linear cinematic action game that just happened to have an open world that acted as hub for the story missions or for car chases to happen in. I liked that Mafia II wasn't simply an analog of Rockstars open world design. Which is why Joe's Adventure is kind of disappointing. All of the game-y mission icons in the world, the combo multipliers for the melee combat, the scoring system, leaderboards and ranks for completing missions, the fourth wall has just been kicked down for me.

It starts off feeling very Mafia II, with Joe chasing down the snitches that sold out Vito and got him sent to prison in the main game. He pisses off Luca, has to leave town for a few years, comes back and all of the sudden it's kind of a different game. It's kind of jarring, I guess Jimmy's Vendetta will be even moreso.

I can, the version of the game Steam sells you runs like shit. I had to find an opensource patch to get it to run properly. Buy it off of GoG instead. Pay the extra dollar for what is likely a better supported/functioning copy of the game.

holy crap what?

why would they do that??

I have no idea but it's really, really weird. I got an S-rank on the tutorial. Had no desire to see my rank in the leaderboards. Went to Joe's apartment to save, walked into the giant floating silver house icon by his bed, saved and quit out.

I'm not sure the GoG version would run any better, I think they're both patched up to the version that Arkane released in mid-January. If you didn't try it after that, though, you might want to give it another shot

Indeed. It's fine now and it's at 1.5-1.6 down, which is what it should be. That said, I know exactly of the awesome alternatives, but I'm outside the area of every single one of them.

With that kind of ping and that kind of speed (if it's consistently bad) , you should go see a consumer rights organisation.
You have plenty of grounds to end your contract early and get refunded.

I'm going through my massive backlog and I was gonna finish Joe's Adventure. It's definitely not what I thought it was gonna be. I lasted maybe 6 missions in, the one where you have to help Marty in the subway.

I'm playing on easy, so I go down there, and kill off the guys, almost dying because I was a bit gungho. I get to Marty, and find you have to literally drag this lifeless body, ssslllooowwwly back to your car, of course you get a bonus, waves of enemies. So you have to stop dragging the body and kill like 5 guys, then go back to dragging the body, and again another way spawns.

After dying a few times, I just through my hands in the air and said fuck it, this sorta frustration in game design isn't worth what little story this DLC was gonna give me. Promptly uninstalled and won't ever reinstall.

Most people don't their TV properly anyway. To get the field of view of a 24" monitor, you'd need to sit no more than 4 to 5 feet away from a 50" TV.

I've got an 80" front projection. My 24" actually gives a bigger image. I took photos from both my seating positions, and the monitor is bigger on the photo than the projection screen.

? They're just different aspect ratios. 16:10 adds a bit more height and thus a few more pixels. Which is great for productivity applications.

I guess that includes me. I don't care about D&D fests like WoW where 1/3 of the screen is taken up by menu. I guess those people are the ones who cry about losing that extra vertical resolution, but for someone like me, who plays real games where there's not much hud, I'd rather have the decreased performance hit of only needing to drive 1080 vertical lines.

Oh, and the size that monitors are today, I can shrink the page to 86 percent in Word (to display two full pages) just fine. That to me is irrelevant.

It's been mentioned, but I just wanted to confirm - Arkane patched the game earlier this year (!) so the Steam version is now on par with any other version.

Sorry I know this is the Steam thread, but a lot of people seemed interested in Drakensang in the summer sale. If anyone didn't pick it up, Impulse has it for £1.69 / $2.73.

Not Steamworks as far as I know, but considering it's showing as £15 on Steam for me, still a great price.

Aw, I bet my friend won't be happy. He was a big fan of Super Meat Boy and this just looks.... unnoticeable.

While this is not in the same vein of SMB, it's not a Team Meat production either, as pointed out in Edmund's blog and on RPS.
I hope that cheers your pal up, at least a bit! While I'm not too keen on the idea, I think it might be interesting. We'll just have to wait and see, no use condemning it right away. :)
