I feel bad for the devs because they released the game without side missions (which was completely fine as that isn't the type of game it is) and then people bitched that there weren't side missions. To appease the "fans", they loaded up the DLC with side missions and it was complete garbage, proving their initial approach to be the right one.

The whole mission timing/scoring/ranking system in Joe's Adventure is really at odds with how Mafia II is designed. The new system promotes and rewards reckless actions and driving when the core game is designed does everything to discourage it. You have to do so little in Mafia II to attract unwanted attention from the police but unlike GTA you can't just shake the cops and that's that. Your license plate, likeness and wanted level are stored, any other cops in the world will react to you if you don't pass through their sphere of awareness quickly enough without doing anything to attract their attention.

I agree, this kind of content doesn't really work in Mafia II.

Really? Thank God, They'll have to pry 16:10 from my cold dead hands.
All 30" screens on the market are 16:10. Unfortunately they are also freaking expensive. Been wanting one for a while.

Well, I have been playing around with Front Mission Evolved, which is pretty fun so far. The game has two different game play types, when you pilot the wanzers (Giant Robots), and when you are on foot. The wanzer piloting part so far is a lot of fun, controlling can be a bit wonky but overall works pretty well. The on foot part isn't to great, its a mediocre third person cover based shooter. Enemies can be hard to spot, you can proceed to the next room till you kill every one of the enemies, and fairly limited weapons so far. You can run out of ammo pretty easily, which is a nice change from most FPSes which you have nearly unlimited amounts. And while you have regenerating health, the game actually has a normal health bar to let you know how much you have, rather then changing the screen color like many FPS games do.

The voice work is decent, the textures are pretty darn poor in the game though. Also, while most of the cut scenes are done real time, the few that aren't look really poor in comparison. Like for a character that only is shown on screen once so far, the aliasing is horrible on him, like the cut scene was done just so it blinded in perfectly to the console version. The game also has the Assassins Creed like problem where it will say "Push the Melee Button to Melee", and from what I tried, even when using a controller it still does the same type of prompts. The game isn't too hard to control though, so all I had to do was check what the keys were bound too.

The game has no built in antialiasing, so I have to over ride it with the Nvidia Control Panel, though oddly it dose have built in Anisotropic Filtering.

But, I find the game play its self pretty fun. Should be worth the $5 to $10 it is often during sales.

Universe at war is on sale. I heard some good things about the game when it first came out?

Worth it for 5$?
What it's worth is relative. It's not amazing and it certainly isn't a "must buy" but it's okay. There are some interesting things about it.

It's got severe pacing issues. The opening drags on forever (can't believe he based the demo on this) and is SLOW and boring. And the end drags on forever and should have ended earlier. But the meat in the middle is fantastic.

What discounts are you guys getting on Universe at War? In AU it's $15 down to $3.75 with 75% off. Can't believe that Australia wins again! Woo!

Oh man, why has it taken me this long to play The Witcher? I'm only about 4-5 hours in but it's better than I expected.

The only thing I am wondering is; How long does a play through take?

I'm half tempted to buy one of the Witcher 2 keys off that key site for $20. Can't see it dropping any lower.

Just wait until the game opens up. I don't expect you to agree, of course, but at the very least you'll understand how I arrived at the conclusion.
I'm going to take your word for it, I'm four hours in and the game is still glacially paced.

Speaking of Shadow Complex, there needs to be a sequel. I don't regard it quite as highly as you do, but in this day and age anything that takes the Metroid formula and moulds it into a great game is a fantastic change of pace. C'mon, hop to it, Chair.
There will be a sequel, I think. Chair's just swimming in their Infinity Blade money at the moment, but I'm pretty sure that I have read that they really want to go back to Shadow Complex.

I couldn't get past my first couple hours with Aquaria, either. The Disney princess look of the game didn't do it any favors, as nice as the environments can be at times; mainly, it felt like I was doing a whole lot of swimming and not much else. This sort of thing can be relaxing in a game; I guess I just wasn't in the mood for it.

It's really not a relaxing, chill-out game. It's just one of the slowest starting games ever made so it's easy to get the wrong idea.

My last playthrough lasted about 55. That was on hard and I did every side quest but one. There's a lot of traveling back and forth on side quests though, and if you skip them it could go a lot quicker. And the game is not at all hard so you really don't need the XP if you're smart with potions and oils.

Urgh UAW is GFWL, had to enter the key and log in, but for some reason there was no copy to clipboard option which is a pain, then the game downloads an update through GFWL, I alt-tab to watch a video while it's doing it, apparently that crashes the game, so I start again and the it updates then quits the game :/

Fuck you mircrosoft

So Steam stops downloading a game if you are playing, even if its single player. Bit of a puzzling choice in my opinion.

Edit:

So there's a work around. Thanks loblaw.

Is Football Manager 2012 coming out? A search brings up barely anything.

Will be a Steam game like all the others, although as an Australian, suggest buying retail and using the key... damn regional pricing.

man i just randomly started to see through my screenshots and i realized i have a bunch of comments.

Steam needs to find a better way to let you know when someone posts there.

It's up to the developers to decide whether to enable it or not.

Yeah, I just check mine every so often to see what people are saying. Usually nothing. :(

When does Renegade Ops come out? I just pre-ordered it for free from Greenman Gaming.

Im thinking about that, let me know if you have any referal codes and such

Okay so does anyone know the official story on why The Movies isn't on steam? Microsoft bought Lionhead or something right? Why not put it back up on steam?

EA's such a bunch of dickbags. The 1 game I was dying to get during the summer sale and it never happened. It didn't have to be a daily either just some 33% deal for the whole sale would have been enough. Man they piss me off sometimes.
EA and Capcom are by far the worst for Steam sales.

Ok, so I'm signed up on Green Man Gaming. If anyone else is interesting in getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution for $23, or the Call of Juarez: The Cartel for $15 (both are Steamworks, woo!), may as well let me refer you so we both get $5 credit! PM me if you are interested in being referred.

You need to enter the promo code GETYO-URWAN-DOUT1 to get the additional 20% off of the game. This isn't exclusive to just these two games, though, so look through and see what Steamworks titles you can buy at a discount, like I did, haha. Only good until the end of Sunday, though!

Game is usually announced around August, and releases November. Nothing to be concerned about

Meanwhile in Australia

Pre-Purchase Saints Row The Third
$89.99 USD

Pre-Purchase Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

Receive the Blood Ravens Chapter Pack and a copy of Darksiders™! Already own it? Give it to a friend!
$89.99 USD

lol ok

Just wanted to chime in my support for Cthuluh Saves the World. The humor is solid, the gameplay is a huge face-lift for JRPGs everywhere, and it's the perfect length. Just when you're getting a bit tired of every encounter it goes and ends on you

Oddly enough, the part I wish they improved upon was the story. I think they had a lot of potential they ended up squandering by just having a bunch of disconnected RPG and Lovecraft cliches strung together.
