half a million to a million copies at full price * 70% * $10 = $3,500,000-$7,000,000. Some copies were sold during the sale period of course, but I think on the low end it's at half a million copies full price.

Now realize that it's only a couple of dudes working on it. They are now millionaires.

That's insane when you break it down like that. I mean I noticed the thread on gaf that it sold like 400,000 but I never thought about it. 2 guys pretty much struck gold with a cheap to make game, but insanely fun and addictive at the same time.

Now Available: Tobe's Vertical Adventure $4.49.

This is something I've seen on XBLIG, it's got very nice graphics but the controls/physics of the character were AWFUL.

Also, there's no demo on Steam.

Now Available: Tobe's Vertical Adventure

$4,49 from $4,99 (10% off until July 25th 10AM PST).

Synopsis from http://store.steampowered.com/app/105700/ -

Tobe's Vertical Adventure is an indie, retro, platformer starring Tobe, the overly devoted gamer who's been forced on a treasure hunt by his materialistic crush, Nana. The big headed duo will travel back and forth in the crumbling caves in search of treasures while rescuing fluffy animals, making you scream kawaii ne~ along the way. With 2 unique characters and a total of 4 islands and 16 levels to explore, Tobe's Vertical Adventure shall bring you back to the 16-bit era.

Has (local only it seems) Co-Op, all the steamy goodness with leaderboards and achievements, controller enabled as well (no idea if that is only for one player or both, though). Judging by the screens it looks quite nice, not that high requirements either so might be a good one on the go, but I'd say I'm interested! I'll wishlist this and see if I'll pick it up soon. Seems to have been on xbox live before as well, you might find something that makes it a buy or not for you in these three reviews:

PS. I know I'm pretty much new to GAF and all that but I hope it's not out of order telling people what they could (probably) find on their own. :) DS.

edit: I saw the post done by Princess Skittles when I previewed post, so if this post is redundant, please let me know and I'll delete it!

Thanks for the input! I'll probably steer clear then if there's no demo, unless someone says otherwise about the controls on PC.

Anyone know of a Steam game either newly released or not that has an item that looks like this in it.

A community contributor for TF2 posted mysteriously "Making promotional items is fun!" and posted that item image, so I was wondering if anyone knew a game it might go to, or if he was just trolling.

Dungeons of Dredmor features Aqua Regia, the image url features the name as well. The game released last week so I don't know how a promo would fit in.

Edit// Beaten whilst I was posting.

Has anybody been following the D2D sale? They have had some awesome deals. FONV is $15 atm. Get it before they fix what is probably an error.

I liked Tobe, he controlled alright once you got used to him. I think it was probably his giant head that was throwing off his balance and he got a bad rap for it. The actual game and level design was pretty solid and a little different in that you'd have to work your way to the goal and then the level would start falling apart and you'd have to haul ass to get back up. I had fun with it and it was one of the few XBLIG that I finished.

They had it for 10$ a while back, probably not an error.

It was 12.50$ but about 10.80$ with a 15% code. Steamworks anyway, so if you missed it on the summer sale you can still pick it up. DLC though is back to regular price.

My way of saying it was easier :p

Wow I'd never even heard of those games, but I just bought the double pack, after viewing the trailers.

Impulse has Metro 2033 for $9.99 USD (50% off)
It's Steamworks, and according with Steam Game Sales it's the lowest it's ever been. Is it worth it?

It's a fantastic game, but is it worth giving money to Gamestop? Well I'll let your conscience decide that.

They've had some awful deals as well. I've been feeling pretty bad for them since I believe prices are determined by publishers and publishers have been making D2D prices way more expensive than they were during Steam's sale. The HoMM pack was I think triple the price it was on Steam?

They had a great deal on Shogun 2 prior to release but I agree that publishers do share the blame for atrocious sale prices. Capcom was a great example of this during the Steam Summer Sale.

Ooh, bought! Never bought anything from Impulse though.

Edit: Ugh, gotta install their client? Just want the key dammit.

I think you have to download the impulse client in order to access your key. I have the client but only ever use it to play sins or get a cheap game. Other than that it's pretty clunky compared to steam so I only ever have it running if I'm actually using it.

Goddamn, that's probably threadworthy. That probably says a lot about how XBLIG is doing, but it's still remarkable how these games are thriving on Steam. Unique games with smart pricing are doing awesome, maybe there is hope after all.
I think there's two sides to it, it's not a simply a matter of releasing a game on Steam for instant fairy magic success.

It's probably smart for an indie developer to get some success from something like XBLIG first. It gives them some notoriety and some pull when they finally submit to Steam. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that if they had simply submitted Breath of Death VII to Steam initially, there's a good chance they would have been turned way. So anyway, then, once they hit Steam, they have an empty slot instead of being buried in the wastelands of garbage in XBLIG and are promoted alongside the big releases on the Steam store page.

I wonder how well Dungeons of Dredmor has sold. That is one of the better games I've played this year. I like roguelikes (I was addicted to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon back in the day), but Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup is way to hardcore for me so a more casual game is right up my alley.
