WoW Steam didn't have a Labor Day sale!
Wait do you have a dv6t or dv7t? If so there's a problem with the computer not being able to run opengl games on the graphics card, it runs them on integrated graphics. They fixed it though, you just need to update the bios.Obsessed said:I fucking give up on Chronicles of Riddick.
I'm just going to stay faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar away from games that make heavy use of OpenGL from now on.

I can't remember how often I searched the Steam boards for this. I guess Steam just doesn't want to implement it.zoner said:Any chance Steam will ever let us add our own custom banners for non-Steam games a la album art in itunes?

Hopefully this works.
You have to manually enable the graphics card for the game. Here's a guide for itObsessed said:dv6t.
And sadly it didn't work.
Thanks for trying to help though.
The point of Alien Swarm was to make it easy for fans to make campaigns and stuff, but I don't think it ever took off.Glass Rebel said:I just saw Alien Swarm in my library and got sad, knowing that Valve might never touch that game again. I really enjoyed it and would love to see them make a full fledged sequel.

Agreed.Glass Rebel said:I know and I also think they acknowledge that it failed but they could still do something with it instead of letting it rot.

Oh I forgot to tell you to switch the graphics settings to fixed in the bios, then try manually enabling it.Obsessed said:I did manually enable it. If I go to the CCC and switchable graphics it is clearly marked as High Performance. Unless I misunderstood the images it seems I'm just SOL.
Some strings related to Alien Swarm are set to be translated recently, although nobody with access to them will tell me what they're specifically about.Glass Rebel said:I just saw Alien Swarm in my library and got sad, knowing that Valve might never touch that game again. Firebrand said:All this Darksiders talk made me boot it up again, but even after adding some RAM it still kinda runs kinda crappy on my E8500/GTX260. The resolution setting does nothing for performance. Also can't get rid of that bloody mouse pointer that insists on centering itself in the menus despite me using a controller. / whine
Any config file tricks or something to boost performance?

If you already installed the bios update all you have to do is press esc as the computer starts up then look for the switchable graphics setting and change it to fixed. Then save and exit.Obsessed said:I'm afraid to mess with my bios. Any chance you could give me a brief walkthrough?

Ouch, guess my next video card choice (460 or 6850) is close to final. I want to play IL-2 and Riddick.TheExodu5 said:ATi cards are notorious for having piss poor compatibility with OpenGL titles. I'm pretty sure IL-2 has been unplayable for a long time on ATi cards.
Not a problem, glad to see that you can play all your games without issues now.Obsessed said:Oh ok. Thank you.
edit:
Oh my god! You sir, have earned my eternal gratitude. Holy fucking shit I can finally play Amnesia, Chronicles, and all those other openGL games that gave me a shitton of problems before!
Thank you so much.
Good man! PC gamers need to stick together like this.QuantumBro said:Not a problem, glad to see that you can play all your games without issues now.

We've done another Steam client beta update today, with several more fixes: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=24299239&postcount=1
Now it's time to get a lot more people involved in trading! We're getting very close now to making this beta Steam client a full public release. What we need your help with now is making sure the new functionality works as intended, and importantly that there are no regressions in existing functionality from the current public Steam client. Other bug reports and feedback are still helpful, but regressions are what we are looking hardest at right now.
As all the feedback is evidence for, this is just the start of a lot more Steam client updates involving both Trading and the Steam Community / Friends list. There are too many good ideas to list, but it's worth calling out a few items we want to address in the next release(s):
- Better tools for finding & starting trades
- Trading of CD-Keys
- Trading of real world currency
- More friends lists features, including more tagging
- More games hooked up to trading
We plan on releasing the Steam Client update to everyone this week, and start a new Steam Client beta next week.
