I'm a little confused about the new controller support for Psychonauts: Didn't it always support controllers? I'm sure I played through it back in 2005 with a Dual Shock I'd hooked up with a USB adapter. I'm also fairly certain I didn't use any additional software to get it working (probably just some fiddling in the game's options to get all the axes and buttons set). Is the new support specifically for 360 controller detection? If that's the case it doesn't make much sense that they'd forget to configure appropriate dead zones for the sticks :(

I'm sad they never released origional A.I.M. on Steam. One of greates open world games I've ever played, and I've played lots of'em.

On the bright side, Starscape is 66% off. Also a pretty good game, you should really look close to it.
anyone else want to chime in on Starscape? looks seriously fun and i love me some well-done 2d.

It's a very faithful representation of the table top game, if you're into turn based tactical games it's worth a look.

I see, thanks. Will think about it, thankfully its not a daily

Does anyone know of a way to make Steam use a headset for voice out while still keeping the game & other windows sounds going to speakers? On Windows 7, with a USB headset. It picks up voice just fine, but what my only options are a) use headset for the mic but all sound (including voice) goes to speakers or b) direct all sound to headset and have speakers idle, when what I want to do is c) have voice chat go to the headset and everything else stays on speakers by default.

If you are using a USB headset it should be selectable as a different output in the voice settings. If it's just a 3.5mm plug then I'm fairly sure you'll need some type of secondary audio output device.

Edit: actually, forget that. Steam doesn't have options for selecting a different voice out.

Yeah :\ I was trying to find a way to maybe force it through Windows, but, well... no dice there.

Serious question is Railworks 3 2012 worth it?
If you want a train simulator, it's the one to get. If you don't want a train simulator, stay away. It looks a lot nicer than Railworks 2 with the new lighting and shadows but apart from that, I haven't really noticed a lot of difference yet. Having said that I don't play career mode, I just free-roam until I derail, killing everyone on board.

The one thing I love about the franchise is the free upgrades. I picked up Railworks for a tenner in a sale which was upgraded to Railworks 2 for free. That was upgraded to Railworks 3 for free. That's crazy. There's some pretty good free DLC too. Ultimately though, if you really wanted it, you'd probably already own it. Maybe best to wait for a sale.

Cheers Dave. Will pick it up when it goes on sale. I knew about the free upgrades, that alone seems pretty dam cool. I suppose they make their money on the DLC to justify upgrading the game for everybody.

God I should never had contact steam to let me buy from where I'm staying now... Torchlight last week, Biding of Isaac, yesterday, psychonauts + edge today... I hate myself.

I'm super sad btw because edge icon is white instead if the black and orange one for the more content edition :(

I've been advised that this might be a good place to repost this:

posted this in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread, but I'm thinking nobody is going to see it - Thanks to my workplace having to buy a load of GTX580s, I have 30 GeForce codes for Batman: Arkham City which are redeemable on Steam - I'm selling them at £15 a pop, PM me if you're interested.

(If you're wondering, no, I didn't manage to get a new graphics card for myself :( )

Basically I got the codes in lieu of an xmas bonus this year - still have a bunch left if anyone wants? PM me if you're interested and I'll give you my paypal address

That really is the best advice. I picked up Railworks 1 on a whim and it clicked with me, despite not loving trains - but I'm a special case.

Either you know if you're all in, or you don't. If you're on the fence, well...fuck it, take a chance. I wipe my ass with $20s so it didn't faze me to grab it, and I don't regret it.

Graphical updates and (possible) 360 controller overlays for Psychonauts?!? OH MY GOD.

A thread should be created or something. If it's been somewhat modernised to run without a hitch on modern PCs, it should be shouted from the heavens. Also, there's a free Psychonauts iOS app with some cool stuff in it.

I'm replaying it now and and it's still an amazing game. There's also a bunch of stuff I missed/forgot about. I ignored most of the collectathon stuff the first time I played it, but there's also a bunch of optional funny conversations and stuff you're much more likely to see if you're trying to get all the achievements.

Even a single penny towards charity is a good thing, are you seriously trying to rag on me because of the amount? You're being an ass.

Even though I hate to do it, because to explain a joke is to rob it of whatever tiny comedic value it held, I'll do it for you:

I was poking fun at the alternate interpretation of "I actually put everything towards charity," where "everything" is typically used with a plural object. 1 dollar is generally considered a singular object (unlike say, 5 dollars, which could be either made up many 1 dollar bills or a single bill), so using "everything" with it is a lot like asking for all the remaining pizza, when you know there is none in the box.

So, the only way to have your sentence make sense is to break it into change.

Now, I don't care that you gave the Humble Indie Bundle people a dollar. Well, I do, but I don't care enough to go to these lengths. I take issue with the cavalier attitude you've had about the whole thing. Why do I even know you spent a dollar? I did not have to know this. Yet you flaunted it in the thread.

Here's you earlier in the thread:
I'd pay a dollar for FS >:]
Then:
aww yeah FS for a dollar (I only have like $10 in the bank and I need to eat)

At least have some shame.

Now, as for me being as ass, fair point, but if you're going to flaunt how little you gave some nice people you should grow some thicker skin.

Yup, thanks IamMikeside, got the game quickly and without compliactions.

Made me break my oath about never buying another GFWL over 10€ but Arkham City at launch? Too good to pass up.

...no. Sorry, but I got Mirror's Edge at the latest sale and I fucking hate it.
I'm probably doing something wrong, but I can't stand the way it plays.
I shall rephrase that then -- don't a lot of us.

I understand many people don't like many games, so I'm not going to say you SHOULD like it. For instance, I'm not interested in sports games and I don't like horror games much.

However, I am always happy to try to help people enjoy Mirror's Edge more just in case you're actually "doing something wrong", as you say. When you say you can't stand the way it plays, can you be any more specific? For instance, do you dislike the mouse/keyboard controls? Are you trying to do it without shooting guards and it's too frustrating? Do you feel you're always missing jumps?

I guess this is the best place to post this as any.

I have seen a lot of people trading games for TF2 items after the steam trading update. Does anyone have any tips about the best place to find people to trade with? I have a bunch of TF2 items and I only play very casually.

Check out the TF2 Trading thread here:

There are links in the OP to trading sites, though you can always try shopping your items around GAF first.

Hoping for a Psychonauts daily deal :>

I'd be surprised if it went on sale before the next big sale, like Thanksgiving or Winter.

Also, I imagine it'll only go down to $5, or so, as Double Fine recently got the rights back from Majesco and put in some good work to bring the port up to snuff.

The first person perspective just messes me up, especially when hanging from something and with a face full of wall/pipe. When moving, generally I miss jumps, I have to slow down, and I have to completely stop to even use that hint system safely. Using it while in motion makes you run in the direction of your next objective, which is usually across a large gap and means you're going straight off the damn rooftop. The roll thing doesn't always work for me either and that slows the pace down too.

Since I have my pad plugged in, the tutorial exclusively shows the pad keybinds and I couldn't even figure out what the kb/m controls were. Playing this with a pad is not how I like it.

And the cops are a pain. Suddenly being forced to fight, while you were constantly running before is just too jarring and getting shot at from three directions while figuring out how that disarming stuff worked again isn't fun.

I remember reading that the idea behind the game was to keep in constant motion, and I'm just not getting there.
