I would hope my credit card company was smart enough to realize that I've bought a bunch of stuff from steam and often in several small transactions for a long time now. Clearly I've seen the statements and paid the bills without reporting any fraud.

I could understand the concern when using a fresh card though.

While its out in the U.K. I believe, don't expect a price drop on that one seeing as its not out in the U.S. yet. BTW, have you been keeping up with the official forums? Seems that the most recent patch has helped a lot.
I haven't really followed anything, thought it had been released last month. Oh well, I still need to get more time in with wings of prey so I can wait. Doubt I'll be able to go back to WoP after I get the new IL-2.

My CC was never rejected on Valve because my bank is not fucking insane. It doesn't block me from making a purchase a day.
You do understand this is more for people that make multiple purchases per day? Yes this does happen, I personally am like you and make 1 purchase a day but there is a huge amount of people (as evident by previous Steam sale threads) that will purchase 1 game at a time as they get feedback from other people on GAF about each daily deal. If you suddenly have 4-5 charges a day from one location in small increments when you maybe haven't made any purchases there for many months at a time, any competent bank will freeze your account and try to figure out what is going on.

Not for everybody there isn't.
So are you proposing they should take away a feature that some people are obviously using because it doesn't benefit you personally?

I put money from my savings account into a games-dedicated online debit account and from there, usually in $50 increments, into Steam Wallet.

It should be a sufficiently cumbersome process to stop me from buying too much, but my library is swelling.

hmm, I could have sworn it was 10PST. We shall see.
I'm pretty sure they changed it from 10AM to 4PM PST sometime this year.

Obviously I can't speak for you but my bank have never learned and I've been buying from Steam for a while now. That's the frustrating thing for me. They see Steam payments all the time and yet still occasionally block my card :(

Banned from Steam because your bank fucked up? Smells like FUD to me.
Isn't it 'charge-backs' that get you banned? That's a different kettle of fiscal fish.

Quote me saying Steam Wallet should be removed anywhere in any thread on any message board on the interwebs.

I love options. It's just not the Holy Grail depicted by most. What you're saying is the same thing as if I quoted LovingSteam and said "So you're saying PayPal is crap and should be removed as one of the payment options?". He never said that.

No, its true. Sometimes a bank will issue a chargeback without you knowing (it has happened with Paypal a couple of times) which is an automatic ban for your Steam account, until the issue is rectified. This process can take weeks.

Even that sounds a bit illegal, if Steam sells you a broken game and your country gives you the right to a refund for faulty product (as many do) they shouldn't be allowed to infringe on your other rights of ownership. Be interesting to see. I was very close to doing a chargeback for Ghostbusters as it was buggy and Atari/Steam were completely unhelpful about it. Was never patched.

Wow, crazy. I thought this would be a customer induced situation. I'm changing bank soon so I'll be checking these things out.

I am scared, I mainly use paypal. I never had any issues though and there were times where I bought lot's of stuff in short amount of time.

Let's kick this sale off with 50-75% off Bulletstorm! That'd be a great way to start an amazing 10-12 days.

Eh. I was excited about a number of EA games. But I'm thinking DS2 and Bulletstorm will get a 33 percent off. My expectations for these games are almost non-existent given the current climate.

I have used Paypal for probably 75-80% of my purchases and have never had an issue BUT others have so Steam wallet is definitely a nice way of not having to worry about that happening.

75% off Bulletstorm! Just got to believe. Or I'll wait till Christmas ^_^

I've never had any issues making several small purchases with my CC, but then again, I don't know if i've ever done as many in a set block of time as I may during this sale...

Assuming they're not pulled by Christmas:(

I'm not going to dick around with the EA games. If it's a price I can live with, I'm operating under the assumption it'll be the last good EA sale ever on Steam. Hope I'm wrong though.

Ask Speculawyer, I believe he had it happen multiple times. I am almost certain your account can get disabled if Steam fraud stuff kicks in, though it doesn't happen often as far as I know. And that's not even chargeback stuff, that's just normal Steam and/or CC fraud detection.

I've used my Visa card for years and never had a problem, but I decided to Steam Wallet up for the upcoming Summer Sale. Going to try and keep my total purchases under 50 bucks!

Some of the F2P games need Steam Wallet too. I bought some stuff in Spiral Knights and had to add funds to my wallet first since the game only takes transactions from the wallet. It was easy to do in game. I really like the Steam integration in Spiral Knights.

Although if you did happen to get banned, you could make a new account to buy things as gifts, for when you get the main account sorted out.

I was thinking that even EA would go at least 50% for most of their games. But even if they only go 33% on Bulletstorm that would still put it around $20 which I could go for. I'd prefer $15 or less but 20 isn't too bad. It's only 1/6 of my budget for this :\

True, though I think the bigger issue is you not being to play any of the games you own while you're banned rather than not being able to buy some cheap games :p

If your account is suspended because your bank sucks and issued a chargeback without you knowing it, how are you going to pay for the games on your newly created account? Steam would still be "banned" from your CC.

Unless you have two different CCs from different providers, I don't see how.

Don't tell EA, but I'd probably bite on Bulletstorm and DS 2 at 50 off. I'd prefer 10 dollars, but I don't have a lot of confidence in the Winter sale and EA.

Is there any plans for another GAF tourney?

Yup, but I'd wait until the sale comes around (since there is no one checking the FS thread now anyway) and announce the tourney in that thread for a few days later to give everyone a few days of practice.

"Insert joke about no one really playing steam games here"

Yeah, debit card, credit card, paypal as last resort.

DS2 must have more than 33% off.
I could have sworn that went on sale for more than that just a month or two ago. They had DS 1 + 2 for a weekend or mid-week sale. I think they were both 50% off, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, but it was full price then. So it was 25 dollars, correct?

Yeah same. I'd have to set up some rules about the hows and whens, only if I plan on installing and playing the game within the next month and if the price is below 10 bucks do I buy it.

AND ALWAYS, ALWAYS ONLY IF IT'S PART OF THE DAILY BATCH OF SALES.

This is kind of a Steam question.

I just bought Football Manager 2011 from Gamersgate. I have a Steam copy in my library which doesn't work. After I ran through the installation process, Steam switched on and verified files.

How do I launch the Gamersgate copy ? Where is it ?

Is this a reverse troll? :p

It is on the FM Game Page:

Note: This product requires a 3rd party download and account

AFAIK FM is now a Steamworks product so it requires Steam.

So it has just folded into the copy I have in my library, which still has the "missing essential data" error preventing me from playing it ?

Have you tried verifying the files?

All else fails, uninstall and reinstall from Steam.

Check and see if Steam is in compatibility mode. I have read that it can be a cause of this issue.

The Rockstar Collection has just been added to the registry. Strangely this pack wasn't coded like the others have been recently. This pack also says June 2011 like the others, so a sale today's pretty much guaranteed now.
