This has happened to me actually, I think that it's the same for all games, not just F2P ones now. I have 20+ games not showing on the badges page where I've had all the drops and sold the cards, the only ones showing are ones I have badges for, drops remaining or that I've recently played. Shouldn't affect booster pack drops though, I got a booster pack for McPixel yesterday, it wasn't showing on the page at the time and it's not showing now after selling the cards.

Thanks for clearing it up.

Ah, right.

DNF isn't half bad. It's not great, mind you, but if you're in the mood for an old-timey shooter and can stomach the terribly-modified UE2.5 engine plus the occasional modern game design trope ("press space to open!"), it's a worthwhile ride.
My thoughts exactly. It feels like the game doesn't know whether it wants to be an old-school FPS or a modern shooter, and tries to be both at the same time.

I still liked it, even though I was expecting something less... modern.

Talking about cards. Is it normal games you sold all cards of to disappear from badges page with no trace?
Kinda makes me concerned, am I still eligible for booster pack of those games?

Only games you have played in the last (2?) week(s) are listed on the badges page if you didn't craft a badge for them.

Lords of Shadows runs beautifully. Like the demo, there aren't many visual options, but the game is optimized to heaven and back.
Nice to hear. I was surprised to see how well the demo ran on my aging PC, so it's good to hear the full version is the same.

If only I could take the day off work so I can download the remaining 12GB and start playing it in a few hours...

yup, google "[female character] + source filmmaker" still gives you mostly porn
Haha, I don't believe you, so I gotta check it myself.

*googles Source Filmmaker + TWD Clem*

...Why are you all looking at me like that?

Apparently, running FEAR at too high a framerate causes the game to act up. At first I was getting the occasional physics bug, which didn't worry me, but the game wasn't loading the next level after completing the second "interval", which ends as you jump out of a window to escape Alma's fiery wrath -- I'd just fall to the ground, unable to move. Enabling vsync apparently did the trick, though introduces noticeable input lag, so I suppose I'll just use D3DOverrider to enable triple buffering and Afterburner to limit the framerate to 60fps.

I have Afterburner set up to limit all my games to 60 FPS. Too often did I have games that wanted to run in the 300+ FPS range just because they are poorly programmed and I don't need the unnecessary stress on my GPU. Never had any side effects.

Finally can play Metro Last Light again after Nvidia patched the Physx bug on Windows 8.1. The first dlc is fun, especially the ranger mode but man the Reich heavy section is awful. That horrible tank section where they shoot through your cover ;-;

Have there been any updates on when the rest of the dlc is coming out?

Stranger's Wrath is the only other game I've needed to force 60fps upon. Not due to in-game bugs, but rather it was lapping up every bit of power my GPUs had, which for a more modern title would be fine, but definitely overkill for something of its calibre, haha.

I'm afraid to upgrade to 8.1 after all of the issues you have had.

Heh, there's only been three real problems.

Metro 2033/Last Light physX bug -fixed

General GFWL Snafu: reinstalling fixed all games but the the ones below. Of course my saves were also deleted so back that up!

Lost Planet 1/2 however still do not work on Windows 8.1 what so ever. They just won't launch after choosing a DX version via the launcher. Really is a shame, been wanting to replay them for a while.

Perhaps I've only noticed it recently but has anyone else had to close steam's physical app after starting a game? To clarify I mean close it so it minimizes into your taskbar. It keeps eating 30% of my cpu if I don't.

It uses up just a few percent on my system (presumably due to the overlay). Steam is probably just butting heads with 8.1. :p

I've been using 8.1 for months now so I have to imagine it's a recent patch induced bug. Overlay takes up the normal percent or so always.

Anyone still looking for Humble Bundle keys? I have a bunch:

Crysis 2: Origin
Medal of Honor: Origin
Mirror's Edge: Origin
Command and Conquer 3 Uprising: Origin & STEAM

Just send me a PM.

By now everyone should have these games. I have seen many giveaways with unclaimed keys

But there might be some people who don't have any of the games

(As an aside, just once I'd like to play an Ubi game with proper 16:10 support.)

Edit: At least I'll begin the level with a heart now, so the first one I come across will give me a few Lums. Provided I don't do any worse than before, I should hit 350.

Edit edit: 363! Oh thank god that's over.

Finally tried Origin.
I installed it to my girlfriend so she can play Sims 3 I got from Origin Bundle.

It's like super nonsense.

No 2 steps verification, you just register on client and you're good to go, I don't even think they verify your email address, as she haven't received anything from EA.

Library is only in grid/cover view or am I missing something? It's pretty with a small library, but what the hell, when one has 50+ games it'd be impossible to browse.

Games and DLCs have different entries in Library (so 3 covers instead of one), and you have to download them separately.
Also, download doesn't include installation (is a separate thing that automatically happens after download, but still...).

Sims 3 itself is another layer of nonsense over Origin. When you launch it, you're just launching Sims 3 launcher. There, you can check for updates and I don't know what else.
And of the three DLC you get from Bundle, just 2 of them are redeemable directly on Origin, while one (Date Night IIRC) you have to redeem on Sims 3 website and download separately and then I don't know what you're supposed to do because we didn't try that still.

So far Origin seems an extremely bad user experience. I can't even think of my gf trying to understand and do all of that without my help. Probably she'd just say fuck it and go back to Cookie Clicker.

Are there any contemplative/meditative/relaxed games on steam?
I feel I was so spoiled by the games like Flower and Journey, want more such games. And it seems like they are really rare breed.
I mean games you can play at your own pace and feel relaxed and in good mood after.

Sims 3 came years before Origin's launch so it pretty much necessitated its own launcher. At some point it's probably not worth it for them to go back and rework the entire backend just to save a few clicks. Worst case scenario, you can make a shortcut directly to Sims3Launcher.exe which'll just load up Origin and then the launcher.

Dunno, if I was EA, I'd try to tie my cashcow as securely to Origin as I could, even going back to rework stuff for it. Not to save clicks, but to be able to bombard people with NEW PUPPY DLC AND 3 NEW CUPBOARDS IN A SPECIAL <INSERT CELEBRITY HERE> SKIN ads.

What FEAR lacks up in colour palette, creative level design and unique texture sets, it more than makes up for with its strong FPS core.

If you have an Nvidia card, you can use the AA bit 0x004030C0 to force AA via Nvidia Inspector without losing soft shadows (alternatively, you can just downsample).

Edit: I should also note that forcing triple buffering via D3DOverrider causes the game to crash.

They already do, I'm not seeing what they aren't able to push out now through Origin pop ups that would require a closer Origin integration. If it was registered through Origin, it still needs it to be running.

You'd think they'd have decoupled the weird 50 different places you have to use keys, though, and unified it all under the Origin client.

Huh, you learn something new every day.

Well there are so many gay slurs it can be difficult to keep track of them all I guess.

This thread is getting hostile as fuck

It's the pre next gen launch stress.

oh

Morning y'all my good fellow GAFfers, hope everyone is fine today.

I miss Steam sales. I want that sale-rush-energy again!

It'll be here before you know it :).

Oh and many thanks for recommending X-COM EU to me. A very kind fellow GAFer gifted it to me and I've completely fallen in love with it. 57 hours played so far and I'm about to add to that now :).

Did you encounter any unclaimed Crysis 2 keys for Steam? :)

I was going to suggest you just ctrl + f for Modbot on pages ITT about a week ago but it appears I have a code going spare. PM me if you haven't already found a code and you may have it.

Pre-Origin EA games still need to be manually added to one's account via a CSR (though some more recent titles work with this).

I know. I was talking Sims 3 specifically, with its kazillions of DLC, some of which are on Origin, and some are apparently only on the separate website? That should be pretty easy to just add to Origin, you'd think... Unlike the other older games, this one is actually still a big revenue source after all.

Are you using a custom skin for Steam? It's usually the cause. E.g a recent version of the Metro skin was causing high cpu usage if you let the library view sit on an entry with screenshots.

Oh rock of ages, do not crumble, love is breathing still. Oh lady moon shine down, a little people magic if you will.
Registering, activating, download and updating The Sims 3 + Expansions is one of the most ridicious cumbersome experiences i've ever had. It took almost two hours, crazy stuff. The Sims Launcher is pretty awfull.

Origin is pretty awesome after that experience. Every client is. Atleast it can't get any worse.
I hope...

Oh, I wasn't pointing it out to you, but rather just mentioning another aspect of Origin that sorely needs to be fixed... and I suppose my post has an underlying point in that service unification is a long way off considering EA can't even be bothered to implement key redemption support for its own back catalogue.

Which ties back into the earlier point. For the massive amount of account consolidation and headache it'd probably cause them to have to rework the entire back end, it probably wouldn't be worth it to them to put in work that'd ostensibly only lead to the end user having to do a bit less.

Just to add something to my Origin/Sims3 experience:

- after downloading and installing S3, the launcher required for it a fucking 1.5GB update. (My GF is downloading it right now: 4 hours left, while from Origin I downloaded the entire S3, 7GB or so, in 2 hours and something. LOLWUT)

- yesterday, when we tried to play it without updating, the game asked to login, but servers where down (and remained down for like 3 hours) and instead of saying it, it just said wrong username or password.

She's sounding desperate with her "I'M NEVER GONNA PLAYYYY" :D

Way to go, EA, nice UX for your most casual game.

I counted how long it took to cover the same distance in Black Ops 2:

Walking Speed: 3 seconds
Running: 2 seconds
ADS: 3.5 seconds

The standard loadout allows for only about 4 seconds of running at a time.

In Counter-Strike the only way to have your first shot be 100% accurate is to not move at all while standing or creeping while crouching at 10% of your movement speed. But it doesn't have ADS thank god which automatically allows the skill ceiling to be through the roof.

Which is one of the reasons I love it, even if I suck at it.
