My Steam timer says 10 hours but the in-game timer says 7.8 hours. I guess some people might take less but you need to get the biomass in most chambers at 5 stars and that takes a bit and some extra thinking. Getting all the research was fun as well.

Had to consult a walkthrough with the endings since what you have to do to end the game was pretty vague, it's probably my only gripe with the game.

Experimenting with all the seeds and stuff was a VERY nice break from all the shooting and mind games from Spec Ops (which I finished last week). It has a very weird 2001 A Space Odyssey feel at times. Liked the voice acting but since I'm not english I can't tell if it's good or just ok. It sounded great to me, loads of expressive voices.

So, yeah, heavily recommended. I for once I'm loving these games I can sit to pick up and play knowing they aren't 100+ hours bloated marathons. I sadly no longer have the time for that and only did one small concession with Dark Souls because, well, DARK SOULS.

Damn that is longer than I expected. I'll give it a try soon, thanks!

Well, I took things slowly and where I live I don't have a bloody moment of peace so probably cut my 7 hours to 4-5 if you can allocate a weekend or some nights, maybe even 3 hours if you rush with a walkthrough so you can quickly achieve the biomass objectives.

Just finished Mass Effect 2...I might just be easy to please, but I don't understand any of the complaints. Beat the final mission without losing anyone.

On to part 3. I'm going to pick up the Citadel DLC. Any other additional stuff worth buying?

RO2 tempts me, but I'm trying to be honest with myself and accept that I probably won't ever play it. I've downloaded it before for free weekend trials. Gotta stay strong.

I need a new podcast listening, turn-your-brain-off game.

I played a shitload of Gnomoria back when I first bought it. However, I just reloaded it after a while and... I can't stand it. I can't even stand thinking about starting a new world from scratch. There's no end game to it, from what I remember. Is there anything new that I missed?

I'm playing A LOT of Don't Starve, but I usually like to play one long ass session of Don't Starve and, after I die, I'll wait for the next patch for new things. Also, the winter time is screwing me up badly.

I've played so much Minecraft that I burned out on it for a while. There's actually nothing else for me to do on adventure mode.

...if only I could still do "The Barrens" runs for fishing cloth and stupid junk out of the water with my Priest...
Torchlight 1/2 could work a suggested. Also Just Cause 2 if you haven't played it. Maybe Shatter, but you'd miss out on the cool music and it requires focus to do well.

Guys, I can't handle the suspense.

I have been waiting for Halo 3 or MGSV PC announcement.

If either happens, I think I will have a heart attack, but especially Halo. The signs are pointing towards an inevitable MGSV release.

I want to play this game so bad with KB/M at 1080p+/60fps+.

Playing through the whole game, multiplayer, and maybe even Firefight with my college friends, people I grew up with, and you guys on GAF.

I just can't handle it, I literally think about how awesome it would be daily.

You'll be disappointed to know that neither of them will have a pc release. :)

Not officially.

There is some evidence pointing to both releases, its more circumstantial evidence for both and nothing definitive yet.

I don't know if you are actually ignorant of the evidence, or if you are trolling or what.

Terraria comes to mind obviously, but I suspect you've already played that one 'til you were sick of it (who hasn't, after all).

Did you play ME1 before? ME2 "fixed" its issues by removing the controversial elements ("controversial" is not the proper word, but I can't think of a better one), and turning it into a shooter. But it still had some exploration elements, meanwhile ME3 threw everything into the toilet and delivered a mech shooting game (let's not talk about the ending, please).

I didn't. 19 minutes was all I could take. I can't bring myself to learn all the complicated stuff.

The X-com thread is dead so I will ask these questions here.

Is there a way to see your current "objective" besides when leaving on a mission? I see it sometimes shows up on the council room type area.

If you do not complete your objective which for example could be researching some new tech, can you just scan for aliens and play missions for essentially forever? Basically just play random battles and level up until you feel like progressing the story?

Universal Access can be found under System Preferences
I played Terraria once but I couldn't figure out how to get the man to go into the wooden rectangle I built, so I went back to playing Dwarf Fortress.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, you can play indefinitely with random events.

Badly done auto-generated terrain is one of my major pet peeves, and ME1, along with Mount and Blade and Rome: Total War were some of the biggest offenders. And the physics-defying APC vehicle didn't help matters.

Sounds like you probably focus test modern games lol

I thought of some funny ones.

"Its so hard to aim and get kills in Counter-Strike"

Call of Duty 4

"RPGs are too confusing"

Mass Effect 2
Skyrim

"I really like WoW in 2004"

The Old Republic

Reminds me of playtesters during Dishonored

"People would just walk around. They didn't know what to do. They didn't even go upstairs because a guard told them they couldn't. They’d say ‘Okay, I can’t go upstairs.’ They wouldn't do anything,” explained Arkane’s Julien Roby

All that complicated stuff in Terraria huh?
Yup. I couldn't manage to complete the tutorial, not knowing which button to press to do something I don't remember now, and I decided the game wasn't for me.

Weird, driving around in the Mako was my favorite part of the game, along with first 5 hours at the Citadel (well, make it 4 hours; the first one was at Eden Prime). There's a sense of peace when exploring an unknown planet, taking in those beautiful skyboxes and vistas. Until you get eaten by a furious Thresher Maw, that is.

I'd love a game consisting of nothing but a selection of finely crafted planets for exploration, and a Mako with a little tweaked driving system (but not too much, I genuinely enjoyed it as is). And a Citadel where I can talk to every NPC and learn about the lore and different races and history.

F.E.A.R. 3

And suicide is a totally valid option after playing suffering through that game abomination of nature.

Don't players know the first thing you do in sandbox games is run around everywhere and see what happens.
That Dishonored quote cracked me up for some reason, and half made me sad. I mean I guess it's expected since some games could use NPCs as absolute path blockers ("You can't go into this pokemon gym until [plot event].") But still, I get this mental image of someone playing Dishonored, and some guard says they can't go upstairs, and the person just makes the "Okay." meme face.

On that mission in Dishonored, I found out who the target was by talking to people downstairs, then I went and looted the upstairs anyway, just because.

Open world/sandbox games are for kleptomaniacs to let off some steam, just like shooters are for aggressive people!

I have no idea what I'm saying

I just totally had one of those moments. The moments in which I attempted to buy Orcs Must Die 2 due to the sale, only to realize that I already owned it AND ALL OF ITS DLC and didn't remember buying it. :|

So Fuel is actually a pretty competent racer. Not only competent, but also fun. I don't know how much that fun will last, but after 70 minutes of playing I'm left with a great first impression. The vehicles feel really good, it's extremely arcadey, and I really dig how they drift. And the music is great too.

Not even the disgusting combo of SecuROM + GFWL can bring it down. I can't wait to play more of it tomorrow.

Man, I forgot it had SecuROM. And GFWL voice chat is horrible, we used to play with a Steam chatroom open and Steam voice chat.

Speaking of which, anyone up for a FUEL run this weekend? Lonely wilderness drives in the rain shall return! I reinstalled, and someone linked me to the improvement mod, but I haven't played it again. And for anyone who doesn't know, there is a registry change that lets you easily supersample, but I think if you do that FRAPS may not take screenshots correctly.

I am, I am! Let me unlock a couple of zones more during the week, and I'll be able to join you and whoever else wants to play. Or are all the zones unlocked during online play?

And a little question: is the name FUEL, all in caps, or just Fuel?

Yes, it's a good game. Great atmosphere to its world too. Is it on sale somewhere?

All zones are NOT unlocked for teleportation online, which is one of the things that makes getting a group together difficult. Once most of us had gotten the unlocks and vantage points near the starting area, it got tough since we'd have to describe on voicechat which helipad people should try to teleport in on, and then we would drive from there. Having the first few areas unlocked should help for sure though. You can drive even in unlocked areas, but if I recall correctly it may not give you hint indicators in those other areas...or maybe you get indicators but not map markers.

And the game is FUEL TM if you want to be ultra correct, I guess. :p

And as I said before, for people playing singleplayer, make sure you play the tornado races!

Not anymore, but it was on GMG up until 1 or 2 days ago, for $2.72 (with a 20% off code). That's when I got it.

That sucks, they should unlock when playing online. I don't know which helipads are you talking about, so maybe I haven't unlocked any yet. And yes, I plan on playing every race (until I get bored), so I'll make sure to play the tornado races.

It'd be cool if we didn't have a big self-congratulatory "you're ruining the industry" festival every time someone mentioned finding a game too complex for their taste.

That being said...

On that mission in Dishonored, I found out who the target was by talking to people downstairs, then I went and looted the upstairs anyway, just because.

Dishonored's mission design was really boring and simple in spots, and that ball is the highlight of silliness. You can solve that mission in about thirty seconds if you skip the duel outside. The game really could've used some more complicated or dense missions.
