Ok, my new PC is ready and already been used for me to drool around looking DAT DETAILS.
And this is my
not-so-
humble way of giving all back to you, the best community ever.

I don't want to annoy anyone, especially people who just don't give a damn about my rantings, so I'm gonna just paste here a part of the full story and the rest you'll be able to read it on my website.
In case you're wondering, it's a standalone page (of a quite abandoned site), with no ads, no stuff, no anything, just the story.

Thanks. :*

One of those Copons' tales no one gives a shit but he tells you anyway

How Copons built his own gaming rig and lived happily ever after

The guide you can totally link to your totally dumb friends to make them stop calling you when they need to replace the RAM

One day my apartment became less spacious.
img01.jpg

My cat BRODO was quite baffled: she suddenly lost a playing area of roughly the same size of Idaho.
It's worth noting that I, being Italian, don't really know how big is Idaho, or where it is for that matter. I guess it could be somewhere in the midwest, but midwest of what, that escapes me.

I opened the package and this is what I found inside:
  • A Cooler Master N400 case;
  • a XFX Pro 650W 80+ Bronze power supply unit;
  • an AsRock Z87 Pro3 motherboard;
  • an Intel Core i5-4440 processor;
  • a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue hard disk drive;
  • a couple of blue 4GB 1600MHz CL9 Corsair Vengeance Low Profile RAMs;
  • a 128GB SanDisk solid state drive.
My LEGO® builder voice in my head started telling me I totally had to assemble all this stuff together. I decided to follow the voice, because reasons
and also because I trashed 6 months of paychecks to get it
.

So I took the motherboard out of its box. It looked like this:
Oh god it's ugly!
What the hell were they thinking when they decided that brown was a cool color for a mobo?

Then I opened the processor box and this is what I found inside:

It was time to attach the processor to the motherboard.
Quite amazingly, when building a computer, this is both the first and the hardest step. A tiny error can screw up 200€ worth of components, just a couple of bucks less than the 2011 Idaho GDP (source: the internet).

My anxiety started to build up.

--------------------------------------------------

Ok, I can't stand it anymore, and also, it was beginning to be too long and annoying for a GAF thread. :D

The rest is here:

Enjoy!

This would make a pretty cool thread if I could just justify why it should be in gaming.

PS: You should probably stop your cat pissing in the PSU.

Well, it's the definitive guide to build a PC without having a single clue! :D

I'm totally gonna ask people in the build PC thread to add it in the OP! :D

Copons, I'm checking your website, and although I don't know shit of Italian (although I'm spanish and they are kinda similar), it looks cool. I laughed when I saw
#RuinedOrgasm
.

Also, your description is pretty accurate for any SteamGAFfer.

Cofounder of Gioca Giue, hasn't touched a videogame since 1998.

Should've bought a somewhat dust proof case man. Cat hairs + no dust filter case = :(

It actually has at least 4 filters (front, top, bottom, one side and probably on the other side too, but I'm not at home so I can't check, and I've the worst memory).
The back, though, lacks a filter, so I probably gonna tape on the holes some kind of home made filter, like some old (super light) pantyhose, or I dunno.

So, I think I may have found a stable part time job finally (something's better than nothing!)..

In celebration of that (as well as that Slime Priest skin from the Winter Sale finally sold for 0.01), I thought I'd give away some keys..

Sorry it's not much, hopefully once paychecks start coming in I'll have some more to spare.

AH SHIT, I didn't realize that that link in the footer could have been actually clicked by some GAFfers!
Please stop, I already pay too much of monthly traffic cause of one author who posted some random porn actress and now bots are all over the site. :D

(Also, that category is called like that because it just talks about when one of the authors says something like "OMG there's this new super cool multiplayer game, y'all have to buy it so we can totally play it together forever!!!", then everybody buy it but no one ever plays it. :D

Fun read. A few things that might help someone else here building a PC.

1) Assemble the Motherboard stuff outside the case (RAM, CPU). Plug in the PSU and Display and make sure the sonofabitch boots. Its a pain in the ass to debug in the case if things don't work so well. Once you know it works, put it in the case

2) Module PSU's are fantastic. I had the exact same situation you did with non-Modular for my first one. "Where in holy hell are these cables supposed to go??". Its a worthy upgrade

3) I would look into a heatsink as your next purchase. The difference between the stock Intel heatsink and something like the CM212 is pretty considerable. Both in heat management and noise.

Enjoy man! It's a hell of a ride.

Not sure if it hasn't been already mentioned, but current Indie Game Stand deal might interest people who liked Dizzy games.

Greenlight, so Steam Key will be there if it's accepted.

Keen. Thanks for saying something as I'm sure I would have missed this and I would have regretted it oh so greatly. Dizzy platformers are what got me into buying games for myself back in the day and I still compare most platformers to them.

So getting Spud's Quest and Derrick the Deathfin for $10? Great deal.

Wow.

I just came up with the easiest way to no damage/s-rank the Sundowner fight in MGR:R... possibly ever.

It's a bit cheap, since you use the infinite FC wig, but damn... that took some of the annoyance out of finishing that chapter for the S-rank. :lol

Hahaha well I enjoy reading your tales Copons.

Also you bought a 780? No wonder why you were saying you were skint. I'm weighing up getting a second but I begrudge paying over £400 when there's rumours flying around left, right and centre.

Any way now you got the grunt you should totally look into some finer points of tweaking to get ETS looking peachy.

I can't tell from the picture, but is the front intake fan filtered? If it's stronger than the exhaust fan in the rear, his case will have positive air pressure so no dust or fur will be getting sucked in anywhere else. If his intake fan isn't stronger than his exhaust fan, he could always add an intake fan to the side grate to ensure positive air pressure.

Back shouldn't need a filter if that's where the air is blowing out, right?

"I came up with something awesome that I won't explain lol" :p

I already no-damage'd that but interested to hear what it is!

1) I actually just assembled CPU and RAM before putting it in the case, and the first boot was after I completed the build. :D
3) As I'm not planning of overclocking the CPU, people (in the build PC thread) told me I should be fine with the stock one... ^^

Actually... the GPU was a gift. One of those super embarrassing gifts, indeed, as I'm in the position of now knowing at all what I could do to top it up...
(In my original plan, I had the budget to go with a 760.)

Ah, see! It never occurred to me.
I actually thought that every fan blew out. :D

Well, it depends how you installed them. If all the fans are blowing out, though, your case is going to be sucking in air (and dust and fur) through all the cracks to reach equilibrium.

Also I agree about replacing the stock heatsink on your CPU. Even if you're not overclocking,
the cooler you keep everything the longer it lasts.

Just checked a review on the case and yeah, the case has filters except for the left side panel which is easy to take care with a stand alone magnetic filter or a DIY filter.

Copons probably should add an intake fan if he wants it to be a positive pressure case.

Case fans came pre-installed, so I don't really know which way they blow, but I assume it's the right way. :D

Anyway, I guess that replacing the heatsink would mean removing everything, cleaning the stock TIM and blah blah blah.
After all my efforts of the last three days, I think I'm gonna settle with this for quite some time. :D

Or at least until the summer!

Speaking of Velocity Ultra, the 20% discount coupon stacks.

I think that's the price with the coupon as I was scratching my head how Nabs found it so cheap. When do they expire? I got the feeling it's soon but my inventory/imterwebs is playing up

care to share?

Sure...

I have a maxed Muramasa blade and infinite wig.
Also wearing the custom red cyborg skin which amps damage and reduces defense.

He charges out of the cutscene... block, do the QTE, cut off whichever panels are exposed. Drop out of blade mode, activate ripper mode, re-enter blade mode and just slash away. His health should drop like a rock. I had 108+ hits, I think and he was at 50% life or so by the time he started to pull out of the range and I couldn't hit him anymore.

At this point, I ninja run out to the side and use a homing rocket on the helicopter quickly to prevent random damage. Turn around and Sundownder should be standing there with his shield up.

Run up, line up the cut in blade mode. Slice. Cut off the new panels exposed. Drop out of blade mode, engage ripper mode, re-enter blade mode, slice away til he hits 10% health and triggers the cutscene.

Ride the screecher in the bottom right mashing <fire> until you hit the zandatsu for the ceiling. Complete it, hit the QTE to dodge/return fire, blade mode, slice, done.

Battle takes less than 3 minutes (+2000), you get enough BP from killing the helicopter/screechers (+2000), you get a huge combo (+2000), and enough kills (+2000) that the +2000 for no damage puts you @ 10000, which is what you need for S-rank. :)

Are there no week long deals this week for Steam? I don't see any update in the announcements.
