A nice cooperative multiplayer game? Beside L4D, Killing Floor, Borderlands and the usual suspects.

Payday 2 (Though it's grindy sadly...)
Saints Row 3/4
Lara Croft TGOL
Magicka
Orcs Must Die 2
Renegade Ops
Dead Island

from the top of my head which I had much fun in via coop.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
Metacritic sucks and Revelations 2012 is better than Serious Sam 3.

I think people think we're joking when we say this because reddit decided to pick on a low-budget mod of Left 4 Dead, but it is genuinely better than Serious Sam 3.

Need friends right? I heard it isn't much good playing by yourself which is why I haven't got it to date.

Yup, you need couch buddies... which I don't have sadly :( Game looks like a hoot if you meet the social requirements.

edit: wait it has online play? hmmm

On the categories thing, I feel particularly lazy and disorganised now - I merely change the view from 'all' to 'installed' or 'recent' when necessary, as those games that are installed are (very loosely) those I'm playing (or intend to play soon). Beatable games are uninstalled when done, so the 'installed' view gets them out of the way. *shrug*

Should give Volgarr a try. There are a lot of cool animation cancels you can do that make it conducive to speedruns, but at its heart it's very much a methodical action platformer. It's difficult, but an excellent game and going slow is a-ok.

Thanks for this, mannerbot - a bit like woo, I think I had turned a blind-eye to Volgarr on the assumption that its 'difficulty' was as a result of its reliance on fast twitch fibres and young hands - but if it can be tackled methodically with the brain as well, then perhaps I still stand some vague chance. Back on the radar - thanks!

It's definitely that type of game, but I've been having a great time online with DunderHassan and Kipp.

Yeah that is a shame because it does look like a blast. Sadly so many online games are just not viable in Australia...also I'm shy and anti-social.

Yeah it is more about precision and being careful rather than straight twitch fibres. There are a couple of demanding sections relating to jumps and ropes, but nothing that should stop you advancing if you make it that far.

Of course you could beat it like a crazy ninja I suppose. It is a shame nobody is doing a speedrun in the AGDQ event.

I think someone mentioned it here but I tried the demo for that Final Exam on Steam and it was surprisingly really good if a bit simple. Pity I didn't notice it during the xmas sales though, gah.

It's really too bad. They almost ruined the fun by bitching about nothing. There's nothing like dancing over the body of a fallen friendly.

You may be able to get it for cheap via Amazon with an EC coupon.

Mind if I ask why you thought it was awesome? I'm not challenging your opinion on the game but I am curious, as my experience of the game was clearly not congruous with yours sadly.

While the gameplay may not have been the most interesting thing I found the story and themes of the game to be quite interesting. One of the main themes was connectivity. The game touches on how games can bring us together while simultaneously keeping us apart. For example the relationship between the player's character and Sugar Plumps. The main reason the player character and Plumps send letters back and forth is to share in game items that help them progress but this also helps to create a relationship. But the game is also what keeps them apart. They literally live next door to each other but they are both too invested in the game to go see each other. So instead they keep mailing letters even though all that separates them is a wall or the metaphorical wall that is the game they play.

But the game doesn't just go "Oh mah god games are ruining relationships" it shows both sides. It recognizes that games can create a bond between people.

My main annoyance with the reviews is they only seem to take note of the surface level theme which is "look how dumb these types of games are yet you are still playing this one". This is one game that really drives home for me my distaste for most of "mainstream game journalism". I read or at least skimmed most of the reviews put out by professional reviewers and almost none of them mentioned any themes besides the surface one. It just pisses me off so much that this game gets almost no recognition while games like "Gone Home" win game of the year left and right.

In my quest to play all of the games I bought in the sale, I tried out Rogue Legacy today. I really like the premise and mechanics of the game, and it's pretty fun, but I'm not as enamored with it as I thought I might be. I feel the combat is somewhat lacking for me personally. The controls feel looser than I'm comfortable with, and the size of the player sprite typically makes me feel claustrophobic in most areas of the castle.

I'll definitely keep playing it, but I don't think it will last the test of time as a go-to game for me. I have enjoyed my couple hours with Risk of Rain a lot more.

Is there a way to send ModBot a game bought from the Humble Store? That is, not a key from a Humble Bundle but something from their storefront.

So they've added some stuff to Teleglitch. The levels are more randomised, you now have the option to randomise your starting gear, there's a higher resolution to choose, new achievements specific to reaching certain areas of the game, and some DLC that includes a 5 song soundtrack and some new starting weapons. Kinda lame the soundtrack isn't included in the base game but I like Teleglitch enough that I bought it. I was already in the middle of a game so I guess the soundtrack won't be active until I start a new game or maybe it'll just play on the boss encounters. There's only 5 songs. Guess I'll find out soon, about to hit the Red Commander mini-boss encounter soon.

If you do buy the soundtrack you can find the music files in commonapps > TeleglitchDME > Soundtrack. Listening to the tunes right now, they're actually kinda badass.

I think you might have missed this bit.

NOTE: The soundtrack is standalone and will be downloaded to your Teleglitch: Die More Edition installation folder. It does not provide in-game music.

Which is a bit shit.

Yes, you click the gift thingy at the end and give modbot the url it gives you as the "key".
Derp, I need to read the entire thing before answering.
Sort of the same thing as before, but you have to have purchased as a gift, and use the link it gives you for that.

We don't have "get out of jail free" cards, but if we did, she'd have one.

turfster is correct but I'd like to add one thing: you will only receive ONE gift link regardless of how many games you check out with.

So if you're buying multiple things and you don't intend them to go to the same person, make sure you buy them one at a time.

Just beat Valdis. Very fun game even though it did have its fair share of frustrating moments. I felt like the ending was a little rushed but not too bad, Still had a good time with it.

Do you guys have any preferences on what categories to use to organize your gargantuan-sized library of games?

Favorites
Action
Action - Adventure
Action - Flight
Action - RPG
Adventure
Arcade
Casual
FPS
Indie
Metroidvania
MMO
Platformer
Puzzle
Racing
RPG
RPG - Roguelike
RPG - Strategy/Tactical
Shmup
Simulation
Space Games
Sports
Stealth Games
Strategy
Strategy - Action
Strategy - Simulation
Strategy - Tower Defense
ZZZ Betas - Demos - Prototypes
ZZZ Mac Specific
ZZZ Non-Steam Games
ZZZ Junk
Games
(I let the new purchases pile up in here until right before the next big sale when I sort everything)

I have games that are Strategy that I put into "Space Games" instead of the defined Strategy , and so on with the other Categories like my "Indie" catchall, it is all fairly informal and done as feels the most comfortable at the moment. Favorites is the folder I stick any game into that I currently have installed. Once I am done I delete the local files and un-tag them as a Favorite, sending them back to their main Category, unless they really are a favorite or if I plan on installing and playing them soon.

pretty damn good. ate lebanese and watched the secret life of walter mitty last night with the wife.

going to a fancy thai place in about 1.5 hours to celebrate a friends engagement.

lots of fallout 3 time. I'm now further along than when I played it back on 360. Started Guacamelee which is a ton of fun and a perfect companion game (it cheered me up just when fallout 3 was starting to get me down).

yourself?

Ahh, that sounds pretty amazing! I just got back from visiting some family upstate and I've been playing some Wind Waker on my Wii U and drinking coffee ever since I got back, so yeah, I think it's been a cool weekend

Well I already added the game to my wishlist earlier because I trust mannerbot but now you say that I am doubly glad that I have done so :). Thanks gents!

This does illustrate my problem with so many game promo videos though. There is an unfortunate and widespread tendency to misrepresent the player's actual experience of the game by focusing on all the most "awesome" action  with very quick cuts together with "bangin'" rawk or techno music that often isn't even in the game. Frankly 99.999999999837348480 % [roughly] of such videos do nothing but completely turn me off the game. Still I am not of the YouTube generation that has a visual attention span of 0.0000000000000000000001 seconds [I'm being generous here] and nor am I coked up to the eyeballs and think that switching between cuts and scenes to match that pace makes for pleasant viewing. You can imagine then how I just LOOOOOVVVVVEEEE contemporary direction in tv, movies and advertising :/.

While the gameplay may not have been the most interesting thing I found the story and themes of the game to be quite interesting. One of the main themes was connectivity. That was really interesting so thank you very much for taking the trouble to share that with me. I have a lot of sympathy for your perspective now. Sadly I just found it pretty tedious but persevered with it to get to the point which never really arrived for me. I had not read any reviews or had the point of the game spoiled for me so I pretty much went in blind. I was aware that it was a game that had a point however and that the enjoyment in the game came from experiencing that rather than the actual gameplay. The idea that they were making a commentary on tedious gameplay in games by asking the player of their game to carry out tedious gameplay went right over my head. Still, I don't play social or mobile games, or MMOs so that was all a bit lost on me I'm afraid. I assumed they were making some statement about waste and the environment and rampant commercialisation but the phrase, "Sherlock you are without excrement" springs to mind here. The point about being joined together by the game but separated went right over my head too. I assumed that because they didn't leave the house and visit each other it was because they couldn't because the environment was toxic or something :/.

Oh well, my experience of the game was irritating when I played it but now I have a greater appreciation for its merits although I don't think I'll be rushing to re-play it :).

^^^^^^ could do with some tweaking but It's 02:40 here and my ability to cogitate is impaired! Time for bed :). N'night boys and girls! *kisses*

I don't actually use Big Picture Mode as it serves no benefit for me, but after trying it again I can see the reasons as to why categorising and not categorising both have merit there. Still I'm quite confused as to why there isn't a search function for Library there as there is with the desktop mode of the client.
Surely Valve knows that plenty of home console users can and have used keyboards via game pads before, so it wouldn't be hard on that front. They could even "borrow" Beyond Good And Evil's keyboard set-up through a gamepad and have it fit right in.

I guess as long as games can still be found and at least Big Picture Mode offers the ability to quickly get to a section via alphabetisation it's fine.

Back in April, I bought someones Bioshock Infinite steam key on ebay, redeemed it, and played the game start to finish just fine. Today, Im digging around my steam categories and I see one called "other games" that I didnt create. I look at it and see that the only game in there is Bioshock Infinite and that Steam is saying that I dont own this game. It doesnt show on my profile, all of the achivements I got are gone, and I cant play the game without re-buying it. I found my old email with the steam key in it and tried redeeming that only to get a "this code was already redeemed" message.

Anyone have this happen before?

The someone you bought it from probably used a stolen credit card or something.

Don't buy steam keys off ebay, there are a number of reasons why it could have got pulled.

This is working pretty good for me (1600 games installed). Not sure why some people categorize uninstalled games, I just categorize the ones I'm interested in playing and keep them installed.

Damn. I figured the guy was legit. He had and sitll has great feedback as a seller.
I almost want to contact Steam about it but if this guy did something wrong, I dont really want to be associated with it.

Still sucks being out the 30 bucks I spent on it :(

It happened to me just the other day. A random guy who added me because he liked my reviews or something just randomly gave me a Retro City Rampage code and I redeemed it. That was like a month ago and now I got a notification that there was a problem with the way that code was obtained and the game got pulled from my account.
