I played the demos of both FEAR games and they still don't interest me all that much. I still fail to see what has everyone on these games so much. They both feel like "other" first person shooters, I also fail to see the appeal of bullet time anymore.

The only FEAR product that caught my slight interest was the demo for the FEAR 2 DLC campaign which had some strangely nice level design.

I like the Sega emulation news. Hopefully they'll release a good number and have them all powered by something like Fusion.

In the case of fear I don't think the demos sum up how nicely bullet time and good design can feel. Besides max payne I think the genre in that area was garbage and fear if your into those types of fps is at that level. Most fps games feel like each other. It's just grinding, tactics, and shooting all else is fluff and meaningless. I play the grene for that very reason it keeps it simple.

FEAR was great because of the combat. The AI would try to outflank you and would properly fallback when they knew they weren't getting the upper hand. Most other FPSs would just have AI that would just stand there, acting as human turrets, waiting for you to mow them down in their futility to suppress you.

My favorite thing to do is to play without the SloMo. Some very fast paced and fierce combat.

Yeah, developers need to fix this. And it is a really trivial thing to fix.
Square-Enix got this so right, for The Last Remnant.

There's really no excuse for not including an option to toggle the on-screen prompts, between keyboard and controller.

I'm not buying the FEAR Collection until someone confirms that saves from the disc version are compatible. I'm halfway through the campaign and don't want to start over.
Just copy/paste your saves.

@ epmode: impulse games have their savegames where you set them to?
I must have misunderstood.

Impulse allows you to specify an installation folder for every game you download. Doesn't affect the save file, unless the file is stored in the game's default installation path (which almost never happens, sadly).

I seriously doubt that the Steam update will allow users to specify a savegame location since that is entirely up to the game's developers.

As a person with no real interest in soccer, would it be worth me trying out football manger 2010 for the free weekend? Is it good as a pure management sim?

Sega is bringing a Virtual Console-like experience to PC digital distribution platforms. Sega Genesis Classics is a series of individual Genesis games available for download via Steam and additional, unspecified download services.

On June 1, PC users will be able to download Golden Axe, Ecco the Dolphin, Comix Zone, and Vectorman, "from $2.99." We don't yet know how the prices will vary per game, but even if just one is that cheap, it's quite a savings over the $8 Virtual Console price.

The screenshots sent out by Sega also include images of Gain Ground, Altered Beast, Space Harrier, Crack Down, Sonic 3D Blast, and Shadow Dancer, so we can expect to see those games from the distant past on PC in the near futur

Would be nice. I can only really care about Shadow Dancer and maybe Space Harrier 2 of the announced games.

Maybe Steve Snake needs to starting writing a Sega arcade hardware emulator before we'll get official arcade rereleases on PC. :|

I don't really need a tag, but I figured I'd get one to make people jealous. Is it working?

So is this game subscription based or not? I keep hearing different things.

From the website FAQ:

You can purchase a retail version of APB either in-store or via digital download at standard retail price (SRP $49.99/£34.99/€49.99). The game includes 50 hours of action game play out of the box plus unlimited time in APB's social districts customising, socialising and trading on the marketplace.

Once your game time is up, you have flexibility to top up your action game time from as little as $6.99 (£5.59, €6.29) for an additional 20 hours, while more frequent players can switch to a 30-day unlimited package for only $9.99 (£7.99, €8.99) with discounts available for 90 and 180 days.

The retail package also contains a bonus 100 RTW points towards your next purchases.

An additional benefit to this evolutionary model is the ability for you to convert your own customisations and rewards to tradable products to give to friends or clan-mates or to place on the Marketplace to earn more RTW points (convertible to game time) or in-game cash. Check back later for more details

It sounds like...GTA, Second Life, and EVE all wrapped in one? I don't know if that sounds unbelievably awesome or just horrifying in it's potential for addiction. I have to say I feel really tempted to try it out, but not 50$ tempted.

So you can pay by the hour? Interesting.

One thing that concerns me is a game like this is dependent on others playing it, and I don't have confidence that there will be enough players to warrant a purchase at $50. Like you said, the potential is there but the execution and amount of people taking part is what is putting me to the No Thanks corner... at least for now.

Saw that FEAR went up on the store and saw the price. Then I noticed that it included both expansions, I was sold.

Great deal at $9.99, and have yet to play Perseus Mandate. Too bad its about 17 gigs to download.

Can anyone connect to Steam? It's been unable to connect to the server or stuck in an update since last night for me (Aus). I got it working finally by copying my Steam folder from my lappy (XP) over to my PC (Win7 64bit) which got it working. But after a restart the same shit is happening.
clientregistry.blob deletion is doing nothing either, its fucking frustrating basically all my games are on Steam and I can't do shit about it. :l
I JUST WANT TO PLAY CIV, IS THAT SO BAD STEAM?!?! ANSWER MEEE!!!

Try reinstalling Steam. Save your games folder so you don't have to re-download everything though.

You got freys filter on by any chance? Sometimes it won't connect for some reason if it's enabled.

No idea what that is?
But yes I think I will try reinstalling it, thanks for reminding me to backup the game folder though, in my aggravation I almost forgot about that. :lol
This is the price of graphics and performance I guess :/ Even though its really just Steams fault, if they can put out a Mac version they should fucking make one that actually works with 64 bit Windows 7 or just 64 bit in general.

Edit:
Nah, I dont have freys, I'm with TPG...

This has nothing to do with 32 vs 64-bit. I understand your frustration, but uh... don't blame something that isn't at fault!

Depends on your meaning. While I am by no means an expert in the genre, it's one of the deepest sims I've played. The game definitely holds its own as a sim, love of the game or no. If anything, though, it might be too deep. While the series has improved over the years in easing new players in, it's a pretty big system that allows you so much control over so many aspects that I'm not sure how someone who isn't necessarily familiar with the sport will take to it. The AI for the assistant coaches is certainly better than it used to be, so you'll have some help when it comes to tactics, at least.

I don't know. I can't say for certain that you'll like it, but it's definitely worth giving it a shot while free.

Just bought my copy. :D I was waiting (and wishing) for a sale.

I would say yes, but you need at least a bit of an understanding of soccer, enough so you know where the positions are and in general what tactics are useful in different areas. You don't need to be a super hardcore football nut, though. I only sort of follow the game, haven't played it since I was 7-ish, and I love FM 2010 just for the management bits.

What's the problem then? It's working fine on my 32 bit systems so...
I cant even open the damn thing, it won't even open to offline mode. It's still being a pos, I think I might have to cop it and try a reinstall.

Sometimes computers are computers and they do stupid things. I'm on 64-bit and have absolutely no problems whatsoever (with Steam).

I would normally say the same thing but earlier this week actually something caused my Steam install to screw up and I couldn't access any of my games ("This game is unavailable, please try again later") until I reinstalled Steam. Idk if it had anything to do with 64bit Windows, but I'm sure it didn't help.

F.E.A.R. 1 & 2, Just Cause, or Alpha Protocol...

Hmmmmm... 3 very different types of games... what do I want...

Will they ever fix the chat bug? I'm already fed up of having to restart Steam when it's been open for long and a pal enters and we can't voice chat because I won't listen to him, or him to me.

And they should also add more filters to L4D games, or something like that. As of late, everytime I try to create a game, it's like random. I may choose Advanced dificulty, in Crash Course and play Easy on Dead Air or Versus in some other scenario.

FEAR 1, Just Cause 2. I would wait for more reviews on Alpha Protocol. Definitely wait for a sale on FEAR 2.

You think there will be a sale when F3AR comes out?

Also does Stream accept a JC2 CD key?

Its possible. More likely IMHO is they will include F.E.A.R. 1 as a gift (don't quote me on that). But realize F.E.A.R. 2 is a Steamworks title so you have to register the retail copies via Steam. Find it cheaper than $20 and buy it if you want.

JC, if it's your thing (meaning if you're a gamer that puts emphasis on well-rounded game mechanics, decent graphics and enjoys openworld stuff). The game falls completely flat story-wise, but provides a great world to go bonkers in.

F.E.A.R 1 … Dunno if I'd still recommend it. Played through it back in the day, it held up okay back then, now I probably wouldn't play more than an hour of it. Best aspects: AI, slomo, gun look&feel, effect work, surprise horror scenes. Weakest parts: Story, level design, complementary story content, multiplayer.

F.E.A.R 2 … Heard good things. That's all I can say.

Hold back on AP until you're absolutely sure that you're gonna love it.

Also, watch some videos.

Well I guess I won't be playing the F.E.A.R. games. I just learned the PC versions don't use the 360 controller, which I need since my PC isn't on a desk (I use a trackball mouse for windows, it sucks for games) I know I could get xpadder or something but that kind of mapping blows.

While totally not interested in APB (yet?) I love the way they handle their subscription model. Paying by the hour (minimum of 20 hours) And the hours only go away when you actually play. I'm not entirely sure about that last part and wether that was official or a GAF post.

That's why I was wondering since this would be so awesome.

Fuck the Appdata, Documents, MyGames etc save folders.

Still waiting for more games to use savegame data for steamcloud.

And like I said, my ultimate dream is using Garry's mod addon folder. They could have all the different addons in their latest revision uploaded on Valve's servers and access them anywhere.

The way you think it sounds and the way it is are pretty far apart.

I'm not sure what you mean by pure management sim, but Football manager is probably the deepest management sim around, though i couldn't say for sure. Of course, with that depth comes an extremely complex and difficult to learn game. However, a lack of interest on soccer should not prevent you from learning it and enjoying it. The only thing you really need is a reasonable understanding of tactics.

If you do decide to play it, i and probably several other posters could probably give you some pointers.
