crestfallen guy - missing after i defeated the abyss watchers, but since he's an ex abyss watcher himself it kinda makes sense. wish there had been a bit more to his story
random lady knight - said something about us not being friends and never showed up again
shopkeeper lady - only talks about ash
andre - only talks about gems
greirat - sent him on a second looting adventure, hasn't returned yet
shady redstone dude - showed up a second time and introduced himself, missing ever since
patches - changed his line about greirat after greirat went looting, nothing else
pyromancer guy - didn't take one of the tomes i got him, he's talking about izalith ever since i gave him the carthus tome
mage guy - still wants scrolls, gave him one but didn't change his dialogue
blind lady - gave her an evil tome and she was kind of freaked out about it, but she taught me those spells nonetheless and has been hanging out there ever since
blind lady's shady escort guy - made some menacing remarks, then disappeared forever. i'm guessing he only shows up if u kill her
anri & horace - forget if they show up at firelink, but i've killed horace and got summoned by anri. dunno what's next for them
pilgrim guy - randomly dead. i only drew strength twice and i think you need 5 for his story stuff to happen, so rip

i also met siegward a couple times, hope to see more of him

so yeah, a ton of characters, but almost none of them seem to be going anywhere

So, I've never tried messing with game files to add mods, is it hard? Because I'm pretty excited to check out Vampire: The Masquerade, but from what I've heard, without the help of mods the game is a janky hell, and there's no Steam Workshop in it.

I don't know, it's money I shouldn't be spending. The PC works fine just with the integrated graphics chip so it's pretty much just a gaming investment.
I didn't have time to open the PC yesterday so I'm not sure what's going on but the PC isn't detecting it at all. I took it out a while back to put in more ram but I've used it a few times after that and it was fine.

Someone made a really fitting picture of level design in the Dark Souls games.

That's really reductive of dark souls 2 from my experience. I get the need to sometimes exaggerate to make a point but ds2 has branching that is similar to dark souls 3 though, yes, many of the branches do simply just end and not loop around at all.

I wonder if making dark souls 1 was such a pain in the ass design-wise that From hasn't even bothered to come close to it since.

Someone made a really fitting picture of level design in the Dark Souls games.

This sort of has been my experience, DS1 was epic, I made one wrong turn and I ended up being burnt to a crisp by a dragon, made another wrong turn and ended up facing a giant sea creature that 1-shot me. Some people like the organisation, but I enjoyed the chaos that was DS1.

I didn't enjoy DS2, and I definitely felt the 'distinct' different regions didn't help. I didn't feel as immersed in that game as I did in DS1 (yes yes I know this pic simplifies it a lot, the map design is a lot more complicated, but this sums it up decently well for me).

I haven't gotten DS3 yet, so can't say how that'll turn out.

Should point out that I felt the DS2 story was bs, and I missed the series continuation of DS1. Yes they were connected, but barely, and I wanted to continue the journey I had started in DS1. I hear DS3 does well story-wise.

I've been playing the beta and having a bit of fun with it. The map control criticism is a little odd, because I think they try to make it a little more of a mobile concept with the demon runes and the warpath mode. Warpath is basically a king of the hill variant where the capture zone is on a one-way rail. The demon rune represents a lot of killing power, but it's actually not that hard to kill the demon and take the rune for your team.

I dunno, I don't really have a lot of Unreal or any Quake experience to compare it to, but I don't think it's necessarily as terrible as the reviews are making it sound. I imagine it'll be better with the map editor and more maps too.

Neither demon runes nor the gimmick warpath mode qualify as map control. You cannot exercise map control when a power up spawns at a random location with 4 seconds warning, nor when you are moving along a predetermined path as dictated by the game mode.
