any good games anybody recommends for under 5$?
Super House of Dead Ninjas. I say as much here.

Four games under $5, with Toki Tori 1 and 2 primarily the reason to get them. Toki Tori 2+ in paticular is one of the better puzzle platformers out there with a lot of variety and reward for criticl thinking and exploration to see all that you can do.
Fortix 2. If you ever played Qix it's that type, if not, well it's easy to understand. You start off with a rectange and as a character that can only move in straight lines you "paint off" areas to capture enemies, destroy objects, activate effects, and get as much of the map completed as possible for high score.

Commandos 2 and Commandos 3. Stealth, action, war. Built around taking stock about where everyone and everything is and figuring out the best path, best plan, best moments to get from area to area. A variety of locations and level design gives it a lot more variety than most other stealth games as the only "tactical action' game I ever felt where that term was fully accurate.

Dark Void Zero. If the NES ever had a version of Zillon (Master System) "rip-off" back in the day, this would have been it. NES style, 8-bit graphics, respawning enemies, key cards, finding items and power ups, and other fun level design of the 8-bit era.
Originally made to be a promotional item of a 3D shooter game on last gen home systems and PC, but turned out to actually be a far better game than the AAA title ever could be.

Deus Ex: Game Of The Year. An old title to be sure, but it still very much remains playable and fun for the amount of things you are allowed to do, different tactics you can take, and sense of satisfaction you feel when you accomplish something that wasn't the "standard way" the average game of the time or today would have done. Plenty of mods to make it an even better experience, easily found online for suggestions.

Critter Crunch. One of the best match puzzle games out there due to it's frantic play style, visuals, and fun you have by making creatures eat each other before exploding. Where else can you honestly enjoy making a character regurgitate rainbows into it's child's mouth and be happy? Seriously though, it's a great game derived from the Magical Drop formula.

Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened. Sherlock Holmes verses Cthulhu.

Stealth Bastard Deluxe. 2D side scroller stealth game that takes inspiration from what Super Meat Boy did for platformers, hard, but very rewarding as your skill at the game increases. By the end you'll return to the starting areas and wonder how it ever gave you such trouble. Note the skill involved is about stealth play, not twitch reactions... most of the time.

The Binding Of Isac, rogue-like shooter in a top down setting that reminds most people of Legend Of Zelda titles.

Zen Pinball FX2. The base game and one table is free, so go ahead and download it and try it out. All the tables save for the newest is on sale, so you got a good selection. I recommend the Marvel Pinball tables personally.
I recommend this as someone who is not good at pinball in real life and can't enjoy them for more than a couple of minutes at a time, yet with Pinball FX2 I have spent far more hours than I care to admit on the various versions of the game across numerous platforms. Added challenges, missions, and just ease of play combined with competing with friends for score is one of the purest examples I've ever experienced when it comes to the joy of video games for fun.

Super House of Dead Ninja. I may have mentioned it already, but I really do like it.
