I wonder if anyone happens to have a spare Dreamfall: The Longest Journey key. It's a long shot, but I understand that it's been in one or several bundles. Wanted to get this game for quite a while and it's unavailable in my region (and I'm not really willing to pay $20 for it anyway).

When I played Doom 1 I was surprised how well it held up personally. Especially when compared to Wolfenstein 3D.

Game had just the right amount of everything to keep it a enjoyable experience.

Yeah, I played both Doom and Doom 2 (and Doom 3 + RoE before them) at the end of last year for the first time, and they still help up pretty well. Dat level design.

By the end of Doom 2 I was quite tired though. They throw waaay too many enemies at you.

im down for some L4D2 Veggie.

If we have more than 4 players we could try Versus mode this time.

Also, I think we should play those Silent Hill maps sometime. Or the RE Outbreak campaign, though I wasn't too impressed from the little I saw some time ago.

Viscera Cleanup Detail ($4.79) is today's Daily.

The game is gloriously OCD. It dares to ask the meta question of who exactly does clean up after all the post-Doom sci/fi shootouts over the past 20 years.

Tons of maps (I think they're up to 11 now?), game engine looks and runs great.

Fantastic unwind material when you just want to turn your brain off and relax. Also aces when you're halfway watching a sports game on the big screen.

HIGHLY recommended.

here's some quick impressions from about an hour of playing Planet Explorers (which, for this type of game, is nothing really). Planet Explorers is a game much like Terraria, Starbound, or Starforge, where you are dropped on some open world planet and you have to explore, dig and build shit. The idea of these games fascinates me but the lack of objectives usually in them always puts me off, and this is where I hope Planet Explorers will be better.

For one, there is a story mode. I dont know how long it will be or how involved, but for now, it feels like your typical rpg, only instead of them giving youa shovel or a sword to complete your objectives, they give you the blueprints for those things, and you need to craft them yourself before you can complete your objective. Early quests are pretty much tutorial stuff, as the lady you are helping is basically giving you all the basic tools you will need (shovel, pickaxe, weapon etc) while you fetch stuff for her to make medicine for herself and whatnot (get 10 wood and 5 animal fat to build a campfire), much like you would in any mmo.

Crafting interface seems simple enough to use, like I said you get blueprints for stuff and then can build them whenever you want on the fly (for now). From my short time with it I already had a dagger I started with, a axe, a sword and shield, a pickaxe, a shovel, a bed that I found in a box, a torch, an assortment of healing items and a shitload of plants that I harvested. And dirt, because you cant play these games without collecting a bunch of dirt.

The game is in alpha (I thought it was in beta actually) and sometimes it feels very much like a game in alpha. Collision detection is wonky, you right click on stuff to gather or loot but most of the time it wont register, you need to keep clicking, you left click to attack (theres actually some nice combat animations I was surprised) but because the collision detection is wonky it doesnt feel very satisfying, most of the time youre not sure youre hiting something, the world looks great but it seems to be barely populated for now (for example, I had an escort quest where the guy says "protect me from animals because im a doctor!"... we went to the location we had to go, which wasnt exactly close, got what we needed, went back, saw 1 lizard which never even attacked us :p), stuff like that. Nothing seems outright broken, just lacks a ton of polish. But it shows a ton of promise dont get me wrong. If they can clean this stuff up it will easily be my favorite of these type of games.

I love how colorful it looks, the world looks great, there seems to be a variety of weird monsters (even tho I barely saw any, the ones I saw looked good, including a giant...rhino...thing just walking around), and if the idea of a rpg / mmo (mmo in the gameplay sense I mean) with terraria style crafting and building is something that sounds appealing to you, give this a shot or at least keep an eye on it while it progresses.

planet_explorers_62753.jpg

Like I said I only played about an hour to get a sense of it, I didnt build houses or dug my way into oblivion, or made jetpacks and hanggliders and shit you see on screenshots. Besides the story mode there was an adventure mod, which just seemed to dump you on the planet and said "now go do shit I dunno!", and a multiplayer mode which I didnt try.
I'm not a fan of these crafting games, but what you wrote here piqued my interest. I like the fact that it has missions, and mixing those objectives with the building aspect will probably make for some very good moments.

I take it the game is Early Access, right? I'll wait until it's finished, thanks for putting it on my radar.

Yep, I thought the same but more for an alphabetical reason.
Oh well, this mean I gotta gift something to chubi for this obviously better sorting of the leaderboard. :D
I don't know about you, but I'm really excited for whatever chubigans is working on.

ooh, in fact Steam forums aren't happy with GWBW =/

Why was GWBW so hyped to begin with? All I'd seen are various screenshots and nothing really stood out to me.

Steam-GAF's Official Ambassador to Gaming-GAF
New people come into threads all the time... hell, that's what the mods of GAF really want -- they don't like it when main threads in the gaming forum end up being isolated communities where newcomers don't feel welcome and are afraid to get involved because... well, they're new.

I honestly just recently stopped reading and posting on another forum in a thread in which I was a "regular". And while it was true that I was annoyed by some of the newer posters, it was more that a lot of the people I considered friends had slowed down their posts for a variety of reasons. It just wasn't the same anymore, especially without the people I enjoyed posting all the time. Did some of the newer people I didn't like annoy me? Sure... but that's why forums have an ignore function.

New blood is not a bad thing. There just needs to be a balance struck between old and new where the old use some patience and see where things go and the new learn the ropes of what does and doesn't fly. Some learn quicker than others. Some see that people don't like them and try harder to be liked. Some just do what they want, regardless. Some people are grumpy about everything (yeah, that's me)... there's a large variety of people and personalities in here and there's no real reason anyone should be afraid to post their thoughts or opinions.

TL;DR (cause Frost tends to ramble): There's room for everyone. Regular/established posters should make judicious use of their ignore lists where they cannot find the patience to tolerate or get to know new members. Remember, we were all new once. New members should just be themselves and post when they have something to say. Just try not to drive the thread away from Steam related conversations.

well ... for what it's worth - I think Frost is right

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
The description says that the game can only be played in Brazil, even I manage to buy it will steam accept the code. I'm talking about this one: http://www.nuuvem.com.br/produto/1994-killer-is-dead-nightmare-edition

That's not true. There was a fair bit of hullabaloo last year when Deep Silver heavily region-locked the Brazilian sub for Saints Row 4 after telling Nuuvem that the keys would be region-free, which resulted in many international users having to wait days for pre-order keys as Nuuvem now had to source region-free ones from DS (who of course had to get them through Valve). From this point on Nuuvem started placing region-lock notices on new games from publishers that even had the slightest history of region-locking stuff to, basically, cover its arse in case a similar situation were to happen again.

Since most publishers have a history of region-locking something, I'm guessing SR4-gate is why Nuuvem abandoned plans to make an English version of its site.

edit: wait, not an anon giveaway. this new modbot feature has made me look the fool again.

It's not an anon giveaway. :(

Hah, sorry buddy i just noticed that! Yeah, I guess according to derExperte says it can be VPN'd but some might not be too willing to do that.

Yeah, there were a couple quick & dirty spin-off titles that the dev did for funzies, Shadow Warrior and Santa's Rampage. Both were just overnight projects.

If you own either the price for the VCD game proper drops from $4.79 to $2.79.

It's Early Access, but you wouldn't know it playing the latest builds. Feels content/feature complete and bug free.

I used a VPN to activate a US key. No problem playing it.

Why, what's the problem?

Very hard, luck needed, no free decision making, gotta do what the dev wants you to do. According ot the Steam forum.

You'll need a VPN to bypass the region lock on nuuuvem and on steam. I personnaly used FlyVPN when I bought FM2014 a couple of months ago, I'm not sure if there is a risk of steam [account restriction] but in my case I still have my account.

Theoretically, yes; in practice, not so much. To the best of my knowledge there isn't a single reputable report of someone having their account restricted because of VPN usage relating to unlocking games early or activating region-locked keys; what draws Valve's ire is using a VPN to skirt region-specific pricing on the Steam Store itself.

Edit: I think my 2TB Steam drive is on its way out. Sigh.

I'm enjoying Gods so far. First level was very hard but there seemed to be multiple ways to handle the situation. I managed to only take out two hostages and keep the situation under control after trying it a few times and seeing how people react. Stats showed most people did it in different ways. Second level seems like it's purely a balancing act of taking note of damage to your characters, although there is something that can happen which is entirely unexpected and worth a restart depending on what you want the outcome to be.

I will say I thought the game was a series of unrelated moral quandaries rather than an overarching tale though. Really enjoying it so far.

Edit: We'll see how things go as it moves forward though. I remember being very impressed with Always Sometimes Monsters's introduction and then the poor writing, pointless pop culture references, and grade school philosophizing brought it down towards the middle of the game. Even so it still had interesting moments here and there, such as choosing why you and your partner broke up.

It's not necessarily Steam related but... I just watched the Pillars of Eternity Quick Look in Giant Bomb and MAN, it looks amazing. I'm seriously hyped for the game - seems to scratch an itch I've been having for a while.

I actually started playing Baldur's Gate 2 a couple of weeks ago. I think I got a bit mentally "stuck" after finishing the intro dungeon and the Circus Tent sidequest - I was enjoying it but I was somehow battling the D&D ruleset the game is based on. Trying to figure out all these mechanics seemed to tire me a bit, even though I can see there's a game there that's begging to be played and enjoyed. I certainly will, though I've distanced myself a bit for a time. I guess it'd be fair to say it overwhelmed me.

But, again, I will come back to it. Sooner or later, I will.
