Stump, since you seem to be this board's Myst specialist... Is the GOG bundle worth the money?

I don't really understand why it has two versions of Myst 1, but is missing Myst 3 and 4(? I think so at least, Uru is 4.5, right?).
Are the games still worth your time in 2016?

I'm no Stump, but I played Realmyst: Masterpiece Edition and Riven for the first time in 2016 and had a fantastic time.

Myst 3 and 4 aren't made by the same developers and are regarded as much worse.

steam sale this week pls.

G2A refunded me the money for my revoked copy of Prison Architect, I didn't even have G2A shield. Nice

thats good to hear! Now you know not to buy from em tho :p if you want shady keys go elsewhere.

Played Alice Madness Returns, and holy fuck are the checkpoints badly spaced. Not sure I'll bother past Chapter 1.

i got pretty far in that game and just uninstalled it eventually, i was interested in the story but damn that game is so damn long for no reason.

Alice: Madness Returns has a comparable length to Ori and the Blind Forest, Dust: An Elysian Tail and Guacamelee!.
Neither of the latter games drags so much. Alice was pretty much insufferable after Chapter 1. It's just lack of variety and mediocre level design that kills it.

I'd be keen to hear a proper breakdown of the entire series from someone who knows his stuff. Which are the definitive versions of each game, Steam or Gog, which entries hold up, which to skip completely, and all.

Wow, Dreamfall Chapters Ep. 5 is so polished. Like, I have this bug and I can't get rid of it:

Should have sold the mystery cards on Thursday. Prices have dropped like a rock since then. I should know by now that right before the sale everyone underbids cards.

It's almost worth, I don't know if GOG managed to fix Real Myst, because the game couldn't run on modern OS.
And also the Masterpiece Edition is missing.
From Riven to Myst V the game run without problems, but Myst 1 won't run because of QuickTime issues.
The games are worth, of course.

It's so good. It shouldn't be so good but somehow id made the impossible and made a good DOOM.

I still can't believe it. It's the only reason why I still have hopes for Quake, even if it's a hero shooter.

I know they're different tones but would you put it up with the newest Wolfenstein?

I really hope street fighter 5 gets a decent sale next week. It would be perfect timing to bring in new players for story mode also...

Urgh...sold 30ish cards..only made ~$0.40

This steam sale is going to suck.

Well, if nothing else there's the free steam cards you get for voting.

Noooooooooooo!

I wouldn't be surprised if Bethesda raise the price then put a 25% discount to make it look like a "deal", given the strong reception DOOM has been getting lately.

I probably shouldn't have given them the idea

I unfortunately can't speak to the compatibility issues with Myst or Riven in the GOG editions. I would recommend RealMyst Masterpiece Edition to play Myst 1--you don't necessarily need Myst Masterpiece Edition. See below for discussion about the different versions. The GOG forums seem to suggest that Riven on GOG has similar issues to the ones I experienced on Steam.

Bolded the ones that are must-play:

Myst:
I breakdown the different versions available in this Steam Community thread. I would recommend realMyst Masterpiece Edition.

Riven:
There are a variety of technical issues here. I can't speak to if the GOG version is better or not, but if you run the Steam version you might choose to run it in SCUMMVM. SCUMMVM has incomplete support for Riven, and my experience was that the SCUMMVM version was missing some features but also had fewer bugs. I discuss some of the bugs I ran into in this Steam Community thread along with how I fixed them.

Myst III:
Not currently for sale, I emailed Night Dive about it and I recommend everyone else does as well. The rights situation is kinda complicated

Uru:
Cyan Worlds, the original developer of Myst, worked on Uru while Ubisoft had another developer make Myst III. Uru was developed as an MMO, then the MMO version was cancelled and it was released as a game, then the MMO version was uncancelled and released on GameTap, then it was cancelled again, then it was uncancelled and released by Cyan. It is possible to play the online version but I never did and I can't imagine there's a playerbase in 2016 besides some hardcores. The version on Steam ("Uru: Complete Chronicles") includes the single-player release and the later expansion content.

Myst IV:
Not currently for sale, I emailed Night Dive about it and I recommend everyone else does as well. The rights situation is kinda complicated

Myst V:
Steam

...
Obduction:
Not currently known to be related to Myst in any way, but Cyan World's next game comes out July 26th, 2016!!!

Was watching a gameplay vid for the Friday the 13th game and while watching the awkward reactions of the players during every kill I realized that I always thought it'd be loads of fun in theory, but in practice you realize that the game has you murdering teenage boys and girls, and that's kind of uncomfortable.
