I used to download games at 0.25 mb/s back in 2006/07. It's doable.
So I basically can't sell items on the marketplace anymore unless I give Valve my phone number?
Fuck.
That.
I gave my phone number and now I'm held hostage at an abandoned warehouse by Gaben and co.
Why so paranoid?
I used to download jpg's of porn back in '98 so it's still doable.
But really...
Because having to check my phone every fucking time I login to Steam is a massive fucking chore.
Almost all pixel art is ugly. I wish indie devs would stop.
Well, good thing marketplace is not a necessity but a privilege then. You can still play your games without needing a mobile authenticator.
Considering it used to be something that wasn't behind their shitty authenticator, taking away features isn't a good thing.
Throwing up right now.
Hello?
Blame the scammers, not Valve. Their hands were forced on this one and had to bolster security measures.

Maybe Valve should stop coming up with quick, half-assed solutions to everything they do?
Couldnt they not just restrict it for DOTA/CSGO items?
I doubt people really scammed with cards.

Or you know, fix their shitty CS. But nah, this was easier.Blame the scammers, not Valve. Their hands were forced on this one and had to bolster security measures.
Anyone interested in 15% coupon on Superhot? It's valid until 1/1 2017 and I assume it will stack unto discounts whenever they are (summer sale, winter sale etc.) since it stacked on the launch discount.

That'd require Valve to actually do actual, real work.
But when you're basically the only game in town, you have no reason to improve yourself for the sake of others.
Lol, that's a good one. They don't even restore scammed items anymore. They don't give a shit.Blame the scammers, not Valve. Their hands were forced on this one and had to bolster security measures.

Did you conveniently miss the refund feature?
Stopping scams before they can occur is better then allowing them to occur and then fixing it after the fact.
One good doesn't make the other issues any less prevalent.
Origin had it first, and the EU basically forced them into implementing it. They clearly didn't want to do it.
If anything, the only benefit Valve probably sees in Steam refunds is the added defense for paid mods when they inevtibly get reintroduced into the workshop.
Hello?
Hello?
I'm interested in someone chipping the monopoly away from steam a bit. But every service seems to have its own bucket of issues.
GOG is too picky with their titles. When Cook Serve Delicious can't even get on the service, fuck em.
It seems like a lot of people are complaining about it at least. Valve's basically killed the community marketplace with this shit. I'm also reading that the authenticator is tied to your physical phone ala Nintendo hardware, so if you change your phone, it doesn't transfer and you're fucked until you deal with their CS, which will take forever and a half. You still might be fucked, though, cuz their CS blows.

Humble is the only viable DRM free marketplace for newer releases - or at least it was until they just straight up started selling DRM only keys (correct me if I'm wrong).
Origin doesn't have a big enough selection, GO is too selective, and uPlay is... uPlay.
The thing is, we've been complaining about it for years. Gabe Newell has boldface lied about it multiple times over the last half or so decade.
Valve will not improve their customer service unless American law forces them to. And it won't.

Well...they are a monopoly with tons of monopolistic, anti-consumer practices. They're ripe for the picking.
What the fuck is "daijobu"?
Shit needs to hit the fan, and I hope EA take a few shots oublicslly towards Valve in terms of their monopoly status.
You know Valve has been falling out of public favour when even /r/PCMASTERRACE has abandoned their "worship" of the company and Gabe.
If releases were 1:1 with Steam and Origin, I'd outright stop buying titles on Steam. Valve has awful customer service, the worst client of any PC digital distribution service in terms of performance, etc. Origin is a breathtakingly better client when compared.
Other PC services need to create a community aspect, which is something only Valve has at the moment. There's no forums, marketplace, mods, etc. I can't remember the last time Origin got a significant upgrade, but they still somehow treat their customers with some respect unlike Valve who knows they have people by the balls.
If Microsoft wasn't doing their fucking UWP shit, I'd say Valve would be up for some hard times in the near future. Who knows? Maybe Sony will introduce Playstation PC or something.
Origin is a breathtakingly better client when compared.
My only concern about that is how hard it'll be to draw players and devs from Steam. Maybe offer an 80% cut for them instead of 70%? That would draw devs and add slightly more incentive to have deep discounts on titles.
I want Origin or GOG Galaxy to grow into a legitimate competitor but EA/CDP don't seem all that interested in putting in the effort.
At this point I'd take a PC distribution platform with Miiverse integration over Steam.
Where's that last image from? Looks pretty good.
who what where when
Miiverse is fun, though. A bit naive, sure, but it's pretty upbeat.
Garou Mark of the Wolves.
SNK's magnum opus.
so you saying scammers run Valve?
if not, it's valve's doing, hence there is nothing else to blame.
unrelated edit: gog is fine, not every store has to allow every game on it, many games are not on HB store also but I don't see you complaining about it.
