STEAM | March 2016 - This thread is badass

Dead Rising 1 was awesome but I couldn't get into the sequel.

Then again, DR1 probably benefited from being released early in the X360's life, when the library was still pretty small. DR2 was purchased when my console game collection was massive, and Off the Record is lost somewhere in my vast Steam library.

IMO the time-limit/schedule adds a lot of depth to the game. It never really becomes just about chopping up zombies, it's about finding the right path, paying attention to the map, keeping eyes and ears out for survivors, etc. At the time it was a really fresh game, felt like a sorta sequel to Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter (which also had a restricted save-system and resource-management aspects). Maybe I didn't click with the sequels as much because I didn't care for the main characters & bosses. Even Frank returning in OTR didn't feel right. He looked weird and kept making snarky puns whenever bosses died, which made him come off as an asshole.

The Convicts were pretty shit though.

i think u can switch all the upscaled sprites stuff off?

if not i'll probably just emulate it
Yes, you can make it look exactly like the original one. I will upload some screens later if you want.

y am i level 1 tho?
Because I got the mana I needed, I created you and I went to sleep, so you haven't even been in battle yet.
I have to go back to the first levels to level up all my newbies.

I like how the Steam App sends me a lock screen notification when I log in somewhere with the code so I don't actually have to unlock my phone and open the app anymore (unless I'm too slow to get the code before the notification goes away)

Whelp, traded my Hitman price error key for a Far Cry Primal price error key (obviously they got the better deal) but never been much into Hitman games, especially compared to Far Cry games.

This is my first Uplay only key, I feel dirty :(

hoping that they fixed the jank and removed the weird save system and time limit bullshit.

If you change your mind it's easily the most western feeling of the series. The time you're allotted to play is ridiculous. I played like typical DR and had like 4 days left of the games clock. DR2 was more of a expansion to 1. While 3 is its own thing really, while obviously taking the base ideas.

I finally relented and got subnautica. It'd been on special for 40% off so many times. Still busy with The Division and The Witness. And Stellaris and No Mans sky is in the way. Busy times!

It is more a matter of discussion port-begging than anything

Seems more accurate now.

The only difference I can see is this is "Atlas PC port begging, the thread" rather than going into a Persona 5 thread and discussing how it should be on PC but it's not.

Then again, the nuances of port-begging elude me. One of the many reasons I'm not a mod.

If you hated those, that are supposedly better, why are you even considering buying 3?

Because 3 is the opposite of 1 and 2 in a lot of ways. So people who disliked racing against the clock, limited save areas, etc. will probably like DR3 more than DR1 or DR2?

It's cool but that code has failed for me quite a few times (and not because I take too long writing)

cool

honestly i think the upscaled stuff looks pretty bad too

it's pretty alright in tits cos the characters are those weird 3d renders instead of sprites but it looks pretty jarring here

and idk how u upscale characters short of redrawing them, all "hq" filters in emulators and such kind of look super ugly

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.

It gets explained again and again that, in terms of general policy, port begging is going into a thread and derailing the conversation with discussion about how you want the game on your platform of choice.

A dedicated thread, especially a generalized one like the Atlus thread, isn't port begging because discussion of the games coming to an additional platform is not derailing the main discussion of the thread. And again, this is separate from other such discussions like "Mario should be on Xbox" or "Uncharted should be on PC" because there is discernibly no contractual reason for the games not to be on PC.

Especially considering how a number of the main third party Japanese studios have found success on the PC, it becomes an interesting discussion why the hold-outs are still hold-outs.

The rule for 'port begging' seems to have vanished from the FAQ section, which only furthers the staff's decision to treat it less like a problem. It has been clarified on occasion that port begging is only frowned upon when it intrudes upon an already existing topic discussing the game as it exists - as in, a mass of users eating up pages to ask for Persona 5 to come to PC/Mac/Linux in a thread made for a gameplay trailer. Making a thread to separate said talk on alternate platforms has been allowed for years, which the PC community has benefited greatly from.

EDIT: Seems like there were a handful of bans issued for complaining about the thread being 'port begging', so I'd say that solidifies things a bit more.

Eh, 15 hours later, I'm nearing the end of the story in The Division.

Getting real repetitive now, especially with the necessary grinding between missions, and playing solo is getting much harder.
All I really wanted was a decent cover shooter really, the MMO-ness never compelled meI admit but I was intrigued regardless; plus for the price I got it for I've certainly got my money's worth already and don't feel bad.

But I don't see how it's much of an RPG at all really =/
RPG elements, like levelling up, sure? Is looting indicative of being an RPG? Can't see what else makes this an RPG at all.
Also, the open world is entirely empty, vacant space taken up between the icons/missions you trudge to. Given how big it is traversal should be better.

And forget any story, but at least it doesn't aim and shoot itself in the foot like Destiny did.

And outside of the Dark Zone it isn't even really social, let alone MMO-like (and I've never considered Destiny much of an MMO either for similar reasons).
I only wanted a decent cover shooter and I more or less got that, but I don't feel that is what most wanted, so, I can't help but wonder why it's done so well? Cos it's barely an RPG or an MMO.

The dealer in Hand of Fate unironically says the following at one point: "New content awaits you. It will unlock once you beat this challenge". That's it. The marketing has finally gone too far!

The game's great though. Batman combat + roguelike elements + card stuff is truly a unique combination, the aesthetics are great and it's really fun so far.

let me know how that difficulty spike goes for you. No one seems to like that part of HoF

I like it a lot so far, but I've played with a group most of the time. I think this is a case like Borderlands, in which you will have way more fun if you play it with friends.

Through the magic of GAF I bugged Nich Maragos, former EGM and 1up staffer who has worked at Atlus USA as part of their localisation team for a number of years but is now no longer with them, three years ago back when the sea change with Japanese PC game was starting about getting Atlus' back catalogue on GoG/Steam/whatever and this was his reply...

...this is unlikely to happen on Steam or GOG because the PS2 era SMT games were on, well, PS2 and not PC. There are no existing PC versions of those games, so in order to sell on PC digital distribution services, they would have to be created. And since the PC market in Japan is pretty much restricted to doujin games and porn (and porn doujin games), the development teams don't see a lot of incentive to create them.

I think that attitude was fairly prevalent amoung Japanese devs not named Falcom a few years ago but it's obviously changed. Now that they're owned by Sega there's a small hope that they could get a small team to start porting Atlus back catalogue for distribution on digital platforms on PC. I would buy the shit out of Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne and the Digital Devil Saga. Plus I would finally be able to box up my launch 60GB PS3.

the fonts

the discrepancy between the PS1 textures and the up-resed text and ground textures

my eyes

Yeah, the fonts really clash. The difference between the new ones and the old ones is also pretty bad. Add the blurriness of the old ones and it's a visual mess.

i hear it's the spiderest of all souls games so i'm not in a huge hurry to play it

There's a
boss spider surrounded by baby spiders and the baby spiders all have the "jump" skill from early Final Fantasy games
so yeah you don't want none of that

Gave a spin to Children of Morta since Valve fixed the missing install buttons.

Pre-alpha is pretty accurate, I was having performance issues throughout my playthrough. Game is fun though, just as it looked from the videos they released.

There are only 3 usable characters for now from the full roster, and I died with the boss at the end of the 3 levels dungeon but the gameplay feels good, evading, running around and hitting stuff.

Grim Dawn's itemization was already good but recent patch made it even better. Not to mention dismantling your rarer unwanted equipment isn't as much of a guaranteed loss as it used to be, you get some decent mats out of it now.

On the downside, the patch also nerfed some of the non-equipment ways of getting permanent defensive boosts (constellations). So actually getting that high resist gear is more important than before

Jaw,

you can't keep criticizing narratives in games and then show undying love for a series of games where the premise of them was to replace zombies with dinosaurs.

I'm looking for some consistency here
Sorry man, neither you nor me know how my tastes work.

...But this is a sequel to Zero Escape 2/VLR. So... it's gonna be just as much of a snooze-fest, if not more?

It's looking fine so far. I like 999, so connections to VLR are fine. I just don't want it to be that game again.

What do people think about Greenman Gaming's "Authorised reseller" sources?

Best price I've found on Dark Souls III is €50 (and that's with 10% discount!) on the Namco-Bananas store. If GMG were to give the usual 20-25% vouchers for DS3 their price would be really good, but yeah, bit wary of giving them that much money if it's no different than buying from any other cdkey site.

Sega has owned Atlus for two-and-a-half years now. Barring a sudden change of policy, it's clear Sega has no intention of forcing anything on Atlus or of former Atlus properties. Essentially, Atlus receives the "golden goose" treatment a la R*, only for no discernible reason.

Authorised Distributor means that the keys are sourced from retail copies, so, yeah, the setup is exactly the same as "legitimate" resellers -- stock is purchased in bulk from distributors, but this isn't something that's recognised as authorised distribution from the perspective of the publishers themselves, so there's the risk of the keys being revoked at a later date.

to be fair, Sega cant even be trusted to force themselves to port their own games to PC even after Valkyria Chronicles took off like a bat out of hell.

I mean what meaningful port have they done since? Fucking Sonic Lost Worlds?

They're nearing Konami levels of incompetency

Funny thing is going into a thread discussing about if a company bringing its titles to another platform is viable and then thread whining or back seat modding is probably going to get you a slap on the wrists. Oh the irony.

Speaking of which, am I the only one to be worried that the Steam version of ZTD has a release date in Japan (same as handheld) but not in West ? I feel like we're getting screwed up in west.

The English trailer was from Aksys and I don't think they will publish it on PC.

Indeed it is. Not skippable either.
yeah, i was kind of hoping after spidercove in dks2 from would've gotten it out of their systems but seems like they really enjoy putting spiders in their games

which tbh is kind of fine for me since they never seem to go the easy route of just making regular enemies scaled up spiders (like in pillars of eternity or whatever), but actually come up with cool stories and crazy designs and you know, do something with it. and if from likes it and isn't gonna be lazy with it then it's entirely within their right to add spiders if they want to

but as a person with issues ,i hope they tone that shit down for dks3 :T

There's a
boss spider surrounded by baby spiders and the baby spiders all have the "jump" skill from early Final Fantasy games
so yeah you don't want none of that
i've watched some videos and if the one you're referring to is the one in the "white arena place" (best description i can think of) then that one didn't look too bad

i had more trouble with some of the ones i've seen hanging on the ceiling in some screenshots, those looked really realistic and much harder to deal with for me than the ones in spidercove in dsk2

Rom is nowhere near as shitty of a boss fight as Freja though

DS2 boss fights in general are dumpster tier compared to BB
freja wasn't a big deal as far as phobias are concerned for me, and actually i don't think that's too annoying of a boss fight, it's actually kind of fun and probably one of the best in dks2 (which says a lot of the quality of boss fights in dks2) if only cos it's not a big humanoid dude

but yeah, i'm not talking about gameplay here, just simple playability for crazy people

My recommendation is just skip it. You will have nightmares from it :D

i don't have too many spider-related dreams, fortunately. i did have a dream about my boss taking lewd pictures of me which was gross lol

i also kind of really want to do lsd someday but i'm scared of that shit going in a very spider-y direction :T
