It's quite unlike anything I've ever played before, the only thing that comes somewhat close is Deadly Premonition. I was sent on a quest to retrieve some old ladies' under garments and I failed the mission as a bird stole it from me the moment I actually managed to find the damn panties.
If you want some sort of guide for reaching a specific final, I suggest you to check Steam communities; there are two detailed walkthrough for each endgame.

Initially I played it doing random side quests without any logic, but it was a "wrong way" to play it for me. I needed a reference guide to know what to do, when, where and what are the best choices for every dialogue.

A crazy game indeed and the sequel is even more crazy, in some aspects.

K, route A for Nier 2 is now done :)

Going to try out a lot more of the side quests next time around, especially now that I'm getting the impression that there is a lot of hidden meat here.

I just really hope that the plot starts to pick up soon, I'm surprised at how paper thin and underdeveloped it has been so far :(
Given there are a million other endings though, I'm obviously not calling it off yet though.

EDIT: plus while I plough through Nier, I now have The Nonary Games and then the new Dark Souls 3 DLC round the corner.

Damn this packed release period D:

King's Quest is the Nier Automata of point-&-click adventure games. Episode 1, which is free, was really innovative. I will get the full collection once it is on sale again.

It has been $9 @ DLGamer for months now.
They ran out of keys recently it seems.
I prob. should've made a thread about that....
I've been hyping it since 2016, but y'all a bunch of tools :V

Despite my growing Steam library I realized I haven't been playing much Steam games in the past 2 months thanks to PS4 (Yakuza 0, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn). Speaking of which, my copy of Persona 5 will be delivered tomorrow...

Finished Nier Automata. Ending E is a thing of absolute beauty,
the messages and the moment the chorus came in just broke me. I hadn't planned on deleting my data, as I've a bunch of other endings and achievements to go for, but after that I just couldn't, had to help someone else.

:'D

I remember but I thought it was inconsiderate hype, or I read bad Steam reviews, I don't know.

Anyway, episode 1 is free and amazing!

Was it the full collection, including the epilogue (after Chapter 5)?

King's Quest, like Life is Strange, opens pretty fantastic but then falls into all the same tropes of the modern Telltale era by the end. Except with shitty puzzles in KQ's case, especially one of the later episodes which is drowning in them.

Still a good game, but it's not a return to form (or pushing anything forward) like the first episode suggests it might.

Yeah first episode of KQ is definitely the most reminiscent of what I think the intended audience is looking for.

The others mix between TT-esque stuff and then ep 2 and 4 are just shite puzzle/resource management crap

Finished with Nier Route B. Was not a big fan of that one, although I focused on sidequest more and some were pretty good.

Started Route C now and this already looks much more promising again.

Yeah, Route B is the low point of the game, imho. Route C is fucking crazy, though. Starts with a bang and just goes nuts at the end. Route C is what made the game go from great to one of my all-time favorites.

The first episode is the best by far. But I see now that someone else beat me to it.

That said, overall it's not a bad series. It's a fitting swansong, and a miracle that it actually happened after it passed hands so many times, but don't expect the same quality as that first episode.

All of those Nier impressions makes it almost possible to forget it's a Square Enix game and as such will be 50% off in 3 months, 66% off in 6 and 75% off (and in a Humble Bundle/SE Loot Box) in a year.
Will also be properly patched by then

I'm an idiot but I've taken a gamble on the EU Square-Enix surprise box - I kicked myself for missing out on the good mystery bundles (and loathed myself for buying the bad ones) but I just hope the other 3 games are half decent....

Good thing it's the first Square Enix Japanese game worth its price in like a decade!

I'm quite enjoying it. Did the people on the OST ever do other work in big games? The music in Nier is amazing.

While I've not done this myself, I gather that it's refundable if the bundle doesn't appeal after it's revealed.

Finished Yakuza 0 today, so it might be the time to take up some PC game next along with Turok 2. Maybe Hollow Knight.

Sweet I can just ask you.
Currently about to start chapter 13. Are the last 5 chapters keeping up with the current pace of the last few. Or do they start to slow down again like the beginning chapters? I'm not going out of my way for side quests.

Has anyone here played Jotun? The bosses are supposed to be pretty hard right? Beat the first one, now beat a bunch of stages and tried both the lightning and fire boss, they're both killing me in a few hits. Thinking about doing all the stages first, collecting as many health upgrades as possible, then trying all the bosses.

There's also an ice stage where I have no idea how to continue, it's like I'm missing a skill, but other stages can be tackled in any other so I don't think that's it.

Holy moly, these whale oil valves you have to find in Daud's Captain of Industry are obscure. I thought it was the whole pipe spigot assembly, but it's just the rectangle and square socket. I was searching all over the courtyard for them after I couldn't find any more inside. They don't turn up with Detective Vision either.

I was a minute from going to a walk-through and remembered I could turn on objective makers. Well, I know this level reeeally well now.

I am soon finished with Banned Game 01. Was... mediocre and during the end I just used a trainer, because a FAQ told me I need to level up for 20 levels to beat the boss before the True Ending route...
Didnt really wanna "waste" time by grinding just to see the first ending...

Sadly this one as it progresses it gets weaker IMHO

I did say big games to be fair ;)

I Googled that series and see a lot of waifus. Uh oh.

Ar Tonelico is a series that has fantastic music and some decent combat/story elements but yeah it does dive heavily into sexual innuendos and waifus at times and Ar Tonelico 3 turned that up to 11 with some scenes slightly bordering on softcore porn with the way characters react.

I'd argue the setting in Ar Tonelico is a lot more than "decent". It's extremely well developed and very unique. Also, Ar Tonelico 2 has a great battle system.

And then they released Qoga, and killed series for me with it.

I liked AT a lot more than AT2, btw, battle system included

I just hope they make the soundtrack available somehow. It's really quite annoying when publishers don't make the soundtracks to their games easily available.

Finally finished Far Cry 2 with a grand total of 27 hours playtime. The game feels way better when played as a nature simulator, not a diamond collectathon or Quake-style twitch shooter. Recommend it to anyone who's yet to try it out. If anyone else has played this, make sure to delete your saves! It turns out that every quick save goes into a new slot and at the end, I had over 600 total saves at about 5 MB each.

Thanks very much to pantsattack for the advice on how to properly handle enemy counters and the tip about the mounted-gun cars at safehouses.
