Yeah, you're right.
The first game decides the fate of the series. If people didn't like it, they won't buy the next game(s). I for one don't find the appeal in Neptunia games despite a huge fan of JRPG. I've also watched the anime back then, even.

But they are fun to play, if you like JRPGs what else do you need? They are funny, lighthearted, easy to get into, etc.
I understand somebody already hating JRPGs (for reasons or without) not liking it, but I don't understand you at all.

btw, I never watched anime, I don't even know that there is one, it has nothing to do with how games play.

Fairy Fencer always had a lower appeal than Neptunia and pretty much sold like garbage on consoles (or so I've heard), so those numbers seem alright as well.

I actually don't know how FFF sold on consoles, I do know that Nep Nep games sold not bad, but I can't say I remember exact numbers right now, do you?

The whole theme might be off-putting, especially with so many sexual innuendo jokes and what not.

I guess you can see the difference between a "moe" JRPG such as Neptunia and a game like Lost Odyssey.

I enjoy both, but I can see why someone doesnt like Neptunia and similar JRPGs.

Just checked.

40k first week sales in Japan, 6k in the second week. So maybe like 70-80k lifetime?
Most likely much lower in the west.

EDIT: And they shipped 100k copies at launch. Ouch.

there are very little sex related jokes and even those are more silly and innocent than anything offending, I don't see where reputation is coming from, tbh.

Of course I see the difference, LO is masterpiece in my eyes, it's downright amazing, but also it's a very sad and deeply philosophical game, you can't compare it with comedy series as Nep Nep, that makes no sense!

An art style that isn't repulsive. I love JRPGs but the only one I own on Steam is The Last Remnant (and Ys/Souls if you count those as JRPGs).

Thankfully emulators exist so I can still get my fix, just definitely not from anime games plastered with little girls.

It doesnt make sense that you say if you like JRPGs, you should like Neptunia.
Its like if someone says "if you like anime, how come you dont like K-On but Texhnolyze?"

Both are different games. And Neptunia has its fair shares of sexual jokes, especially all those CGs with "tentacles", "white stuff eating" and things like that (as well as Agarest). There are a lot of jokes about boob-sizes, one character is kinda openly lesbian. It tries to offer characters of all kind of ecchi-tropes.

Like I said. Just because you like one genre, doesnt mean you like every game of one genre.

How can you hate waifus?

I usually enjoy JRPGs despite the grinds and cringeworthy stories, but as Chairman Chuck explained, there are too much moe/ecchi/skimpy influence in Neptunia games. The armors look ridiculous as well. Those two alone already put me off from the series. Moreover, there's my wife who hates ecchi anime stuff like Nep2. And the moe/ecchi stuff is kinda the main things that Nep2 games have to offer.

There might very well be very little sex related jokes, as you say, but when I watch screens and videos on the page for Neptunia and ask myself "what this game is about", flashy effects and cute girls with maybe some pantsu are the only things that come to mind. The game might not be about that, but that's the impression I was left with - "so many people are talking about this game so perhaps there is something interesting there, but I don't see what it is quite yet and have to proceed with caution". Others might decide not to go further way earlier.

you don't play artstyle as I keep repeating and kindly lay off anime and you perception of artsyle right now, we are talking games not anime or your hyperbole on arts.

although, I do understand it's a lost cause, you simply can't have a game discussion without people feeling the need to pour their venom on artstyle or VA or any other irrelevant things if it's anything Japansese, plain sucks if you ask me.

Fairy Fencer seem an better presentation than Neptunia games from what I played, despite being same-ish and sharing asset.

Will finish the game as soon I get gamepad.

Btw best time to get Nep2 is when the four game bundled together and heavy discount, that will be glorious day

No one said that. I just said people might be put off by the artstyle, even though they like JRPGs.
Its the same with anime. People might like Ghost in the Shell, Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba but dislike the artstyle/themes of anime like K-On, ToLoveRu etc.

And you have to admit, that the Neptunia games are more catered to the ones who prefer the latter. And even between Fairy Fencer F and Neptunia there is a big difference.

you are way too serious about it, but it's your choice.
Nep Nep is comedy, so if you take approach of taking it seriously of course it will annoy the heck out of you.
But I can't agree with the least sentence, light moe/ecchi stuff is there but it has nothing to do with gameplay, literally nothing.

Just checked.

ouch indeed, it probably will do the same numbers on steam over the time, it's no big feat considering steam is world wide and those are only Japanese sales.

But maybe people dont want a "comedy"-JRPG and prefers "serious" ones.

it is a valid point, you don't buy Nep Nep then, there is no reason to.

So Steam user won't buying Disgaea game? :(

Btw its a little joke, but both game sharing similar tone (altho Disgaea have much less fanservice) you will wonder if IF game like Nep2 would reflecting how Disgaea port will fare.

Disgaea's comedy is far better than Nep Nep though.

That's debatable, understanding of humour is most personal thing that there is

Don't get me wrong, not saying that Disgaea is not funny, just pointing out that it's not set in stone that it's more funny.

Nice generalization bud. Anime style can be done well, look at Valkyria Chronicles or Ni No Kuni for examples. Not everyone likes the loli style or comedy JRPG or whatever you wanna call it, just accept that. And anyway, beyond the art style and dialogue/plot/story of the games, they just don't look that fun to play in the first place.

The Deer God has some surprisingly beautiful vistas.

It seems like a really ethereal game, with fluid and fun movement, but pretty janky combat. Very minimalistic in its storytelling and explanation. It's mostly content with letting you figure things out on your own and not giving much direction.

ever heard of people being different and having different preferences? You not liking art doesn't make it bad, it just means your preferences are different, but at large your taste in arts is irrelevant to anybody but you, what people keep forgetting.
They don't look fun? but their are fun, so it seems to be your personal problem again in the first place, no?

Also I'd the refuse to live in the world where there is one "proper" artstyle you like, that's hell of boredom, not world. I like hundreds of artstyles if not thousands, it's so good to be me in this world, so so good, are you jelly yet?

Kind of hard to compare. Although you could draw parallels between tone and art style, you'd be better served to judge Disgaea against another series which wasn't completely garbage.

Metal Gear Rising been decent so far. I've really been enjoying the gameplay, but the camera gets really bad sometimes where it really kinda makes some parts more aggravating than anything. Plus I think I'm missing something, but where can I learn what I need to do to preform the skills that I buy in the customization menu. All they give is a description of what it does, but not how to preform the skill. Bosses have been great though and are definitely the highlight. Just started Chapter 6 and I see that I only have 1 more chapter after this.
I found this video very super useful. It teaches how to use dodge skill, how to parry, advanced techniques like animation canceling and much more. It also tells you where to find all the button presses required for all the moves you can do.

Indeed its not an anti anime thing its just some of us can't stand that particular subsection of it thats everywhere now. It feels like there not much variety away from that.

In the words of Ancient's Ayano Koshiro

These days everything is just little girls and I think people are getting tired of it.

For someone that seemingly wanted reasons why people dislike the games (or the sales may be dropping) you are fairly defensive about it when they provide said reasons.

SMT1 is pretty much like classic PC RPGs of the 80s, put that ish on GOG and watch the money roll in.

Otherwise there's Anachronix.

jeez, it's getting better and better

Let be real, the series never been critically acclaimed at first place. I don't know why you so confused to why people can't get the hook of it, its indeed never have that much of casual appeal.

With Steam getting more release like Zestiria that will be better gauge for how much audience for JRPGs at Steam.

Middling JRPGs that just have benefit because the platform only have few of it just not the right tool for that.

LEGO Worlds Update 3 Announcement

Hello one and all, it’s that time again: Update Announcement O’Clock! So without further ado, here are some of the upcoming features in Update 3!

Quest System Improvements
Several Characters now also have quests AFTER they’re unlocked. This will allow us to author more interesting quests down the line and even allow for us to create random events that occur within the worlds. Perhaps you’ll find some spooky goings-on?

Updated Skybox
A huge overhaul to the skybox system shows off much improved visuals during both day and night and sees a vast improvement to the natural lighting. From the warm glow of sunrise, through to the twinkling starry nights, your world looks drastically more alive. And fear not, the improved lighting is actually more efficient than the previous setup, so performance won’t suffer because of it.

Vehicle Camera Fixes
We’ve improved the vehicle physics and sharpened up the camera while you’re in vehicles. The controls still remain the same for now – with options to come a little later – but these changes mean the vehicles now handle more like you’d expect when using WASD.

Fixtures and Fittings
Does your house have a noticeable breeze/blizzard/volcanic burn running through it? Not sure we can do much about the last one without some industrial air conditioning, but for the rest there is now a selection of working doors and windows in the Brick Building tool! Time to renovate your existing models and make some new ones too! We’ll add more to future updates, and we certainly haven’t forgotten about other bricks – see the notes below.

More Varied Item Discoveries
Tied in to the quest system, some item discoveries now make more sense. For example, we recently unearthed the shocking revelation that apples are actually found on trees rather than in chests as previously thought, so you’ll have to find a suitable tree and give it a whack. There are a number of other examples, but we’re not telling you all of them, that’s your job to figure out.

Picture Album
Remember those pictures you took with the camera? Now you don’t need to go foraging for them on your computer, you can view and delete them on the front end.

Items Backpack
We’re adding a very simple but much quicker way to get to your items. Like many of you, we feel it’s important for gameplay that we don’t keep them embedded in the menus any longer, especially now they’re becoming more fun and useful.

Minimap Update
We’ve added a nice little feature to the minimap. If you click on it (mouse & keyboard only for now), you will be given a 3D overview of the areas in the world you’ve visited, similar to the preview when you choose your world on the front end. It’s great for tracking progress and finding your bearings!

Content
There are several new characters (which are SPOOKILY relevant to the time of year), vehicles and props available to discover and unlock too. Make sure to consult with other players to see where they can be found – some of them are really quite rare!

When?
We’ve now entered our pre-rollout push for these new features in which we’re just taking a bit of time to make sure everything is working as intended without any side-effects, so we’ll be sure to let you know once the update is live. It does mean that (as usual) we can’t give a firm date, but hopefully not too long!

What’s Next?
However, that’s not all that we want to share with you. We’re also keen to share some additional plans with you all that we’re looking to include in Update 4, and well beyond. We’ll provide a more detailed ‘Stuff we’re working on’ thread here sometime soon to go into more detail, but we’d like to give you a rundown on some of the features that are still in development so that you’re able to see where our focus lies. In no particular order:

  • Further camerawork improvements.
  • More Bricks – you’ll be pleased to hear that we’ve have had tests up and running, but we need to resolve the side effects which will take a bit of time.
  • Quests – More quest types and variety, including creative quests and further improvements to the adventure ones. And, better quest rewards – studs are cool for now, but we want players to be surprised or feel a sense of progress, or maybe both at the same time, so we’ll share more on this soon.
  • Ongoing work on a system that supports towns and other structured layouts.
  • GUI & input improvements – categorisation in the tools, better controller support, remapping options and so on.
  • More Build tools – we’re looking at the best ways to quickly build walls, and you guys have given us heaps of other ideas and inspiration too.
  • Multiplayer – both local (split screen) and online.
  • AI & behaviour improvements, including underwater creatures, creatures of flight, more interesting NPCs, better fighting for players that crave action and so on.
  • Ongoing landscape generation improvements – not just new biomes but improved use of water, more structural variety and of course all without compromising performance – the tricky part!
  • Better integration of the character customiser.

As you can see, there’s lots to do, and the aim is to really kick on with our discussions with you guys once the dust has settled from the next update. This will include some new Dev Diaries, Tutorial Videos, Demo Videos, Build Challenges, etc. We’re also trying to find a moment where we’re all sat together to potentially do some sort of Q&A/AMA, so keep an eye out for that.

As always, feel free to discuss your thoughts here, and we’ll be sure to answer what and where we can! And once again, we want to thank everyone for their continued responses and feedback! It’s been very fun reading and watching everyone’s various comments and videos!

Many thanks,
The LEGO Worlds Team

Who cares about critical acclaim? The game has 96% positive user reviews on Steam. It's definitely not complete garbage.

And Zestiria is supposed to be quite mediocre or "middling" as well. The Tales series isn't really known for consistently high quality.

I'm not saying these are must play or great series, I just don't agree with hyperbole and hate. And you are not right about Nep Nep, series have fans and that's all acclaim games need actually, it's not some garbage that nobody wants. But let's leave it at that and move on to other things.

Last Remnant is boring like hell. There's nothing except fights, fights, fights.

yes, large scale battles with interesting battle system and a lot of options, that's really something we should hate, too much of gameplay! who would want that?
