The end is nigh, we agree on something.
It's a combination of things. Simplified inputs, lack of a ton of staple fighting game mechanics, camera panned back... you can make just about anything competitive (see: Catherine), but that doesn't make it a fighting game.

Here's my idea for a remake of The Producers. A couple of game creators purposely make an expensive shitty AAA game for tax write-off reasons but the game ends up becoming a huge hit via YouTube and social media because of it's shittiness. Shenanigans ensure.
Mel Brooks will cameo as PewDiePie.
Denis Dyack will cameo as himself being escorted off the studio lot by security.

This is going back about a decade. Had to listen to it on a car trip. Seriously made me contemplate bailing from the vehicle.
Which is funny since it shows up in someone's library.
It's there to taunt people and make them waste 60 gigs.

I am seeing a disturbing lack of Rebel Galaxy in my activity feed. Here's some impressions from my first few hours of the game:
In the first few hours of Rebel Galaxy I have space trucked across a system full of space stations, space merchants, space militia, and space pirates. I have traded in commodities, mined, wasted and been wasted by pirate bastards. I have followed the news to get the jump on cheap goods, bought low and sold high. The ship I started in was a flimsy paper target with a bulls eye on its back. I have since upgraded the hull, shields, deflector, weapons systems, and cargo hold. I am currently saving up for a bigger more dangerous ship and the upgrades I have installed will transfer over to the new one.
Combat takes place on a horizontal plane with combat similar to Assassin's Creed Black Flag. Utilizing broadsides and turrets to take out major ships and small fighters is a blast. You can change your combat style depending on what weapons you install on your ship from blasting fools at a distance or getting up close and hitting them hard. You can even ram other ships with the proper equipment installed.
This is the game I was hoping for when that travesty of game X Rebirth launched. The soundtrack is a bluesy twangy slide guitar rock fest. Don't like that? No problem, when you launch the game it has support for your own custom soundtrack. I'm getting a Firefly vibe from the music and presentation and I quite like it. Bottom line: it's a fun arcadey and easily accessible spacer. You should have it on your wishlist at the least and if you like the genre you should absolutely purchase it. Or you can try to win this copy! Good luck Steam Bros.

My guess is it's all about development allocation.
They aren't going to bother testing or fixing issues that a tenth of one percent of their player base will encounter. They are going to use resources where it will effect more players.

I own the game and only have about 12 hours with it so far. Going to start over when this launches and play it with a controller. Looking forward to it.

I remember there being a discussion on this on the steam forums when nobody could get more than 78-79% and some people were able to bump it up by tracking down and adding those dlcs. Given WB's attitude to dlc, I'd be surprised if they weren't made available to buy at some point.
