Guys, you should probably vote here if you want any representation for PC classics like Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex, Half-Life, etc., in Games of Generation 5:

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1096107

Voting ends in 5 hours, 25 minutes.

I really don't care for these sorts of voting things, because it's always biased and fairly meaningless in the way it is done. This is a heavily console-centric forum, and most of the PC folks won't be engaging with it very much.

If you want to avoid bias, particularly when there is such aggressive fanboyism amongst many on GAF that would take part, single platform polls would probably be more useful, such as SteamGAF GOTY
which is always rigged!

Btw, the easiest fix for the return to Camp Omega being cut is to launch GZ and just play around in that thing. Vastly superior level design anyway. And slightly less retarded design choices.

Polls in general tend to be awful, because the majority of the population of earth is fucking moronic.

I see your point. I pretty much have the ulterior motive of wanting an easily bookmarkable thread to find classics that I should try out at some point, so that's mostly why I'm shilling for it. :p

Sneaksy saucey =p

You guys really aren't selling me on TPP here =p

(there are 3 in the entire phantom pain and I never once saw one, let alone got caught by one--that stellar tactical stealth espionage action!)

Did you like the level design of Ground Zeroes? If yes, you wont like it in TPP, like at all. If you hated it and felt it was too well-designed, and too "tight" and well-made and overall logically designed with every prop having a purpose, then you might like the "level" design in TPP. Because it's open, vast, empty and the majority of outposts and bases' layout and design is terrible. Happy fun times!

If you felt like the emphasis of GZ was too much on stealth, then you'll love TPP, because it's even less focused on it. And a rocket launcher is going to be your best friend if you want money for your base and good rankings.

Am I selling you on it now?

Because it is quite solid, mechanically, but it's equally fucking stupid.

I quite like it, overall.

Good luck finding a cheap phone with totally uniform backlight. Good luck finding an expensive one.

Try 1998 - that's when a shit load of franchises got established. edit: wait, now that I'm looking at it, yeah 1999 is beastly for PC gaming, jeez.

It's getting worse the longer I look at release lists. Totally forgot Blade Runner but what do I throw out of the top 10?

He can't even beat Ground Zeroes. He wouldn't even last in TPP.

There are? I was honestly convinced they forgot about them entirely, despite being very heavily emphasised, and well-utilised, in GZ and it's excellent level design.

Alas, they remembered them a week before launch, so they weren't forgotten entirely.

Is that a cumstain?

You filthy... Person, you.

In TPP rocket launchers are even better though, and easier to get!

So he might :p

But the games don't even have sex. Only shit pilled into skimpy clothing. People who rub to this sewage water would fab to a dead mouse they put in the microwave.

What? The writing is utter garbage. Thirteen year old me wrote better erotic fanfiction than that. Even with my limited english skills I could shit out a better written Visual Novel than any of the Sakura games.

I instantly believe you, brother.

If you go on the denpasoft website you can see the "sex" in Sakura Swim Club. I agree with you entirely about the writing but I think it's probably the game's strong point.

Nope. Too open and empty.

Nope. Since I quit when it wanted me to blow up random shit for an unspecified reason.

Guess that settles that =p

It's not about not being "able to beat it", it's about not giving a fuck because it's so bland and uninteresting =p

Yeah, I always found steamGAF GOTY list to be much more balanced/varied than the regular GOTY list, so I think you're right on that. It would be nice to have all of the classics of that time period in one place though. Personally, I found that my favorite games of each generation had a common theme (5 is apparently exploration, 6 was narrative), which I wouldn't have realized without a thread like GotG. Then again, I'm a person who would throw away a vote on pretty niche games that would have no chance of placing in the top of the list.

Deciding what should be honorable mentions is a lot tougher than it seems. I didn't even know Blade Runner had a game for it, besides that Konami rip off one

Really? Too open and empty?

Then TPP will be the perfect empty, desolate void for you to banish the people you hate.

lol GZ too open and empty

also there is nothing in the main GZ mission that you need to blow up

literally the only things you have to do is rescue chico and paz

Both of whom die, except one's death is retconned because
Kojima can't write a coherent plot to save his own life. Nor write anything subtle, as you might've noticed going by the absolute bombardment of incredibly direct 1984 references and Lord of the Flies cut-outs.

Kojima-san is a true visionary.

The dude owes me a Steambox though.

Became a Valve vs. Naughty Dog thread right from the get go.

As usual, I don't think many actually read beyond the comment to see the Merle Dandridge tweet being referenced. Once again people are too blind to their platform / developer alliances that they get defensive over anything like that.

Randy Pitchford should buy the Half-Life license, hire David Cage as the writer and Derek Smart as the designer. You'd shout 'Save us!' and the Naughty Gods would whisper 'no'.

Why can't D-Walker count as a vehicle? He sure controls like one. Meaning shit. I'd use him in combination with Quiet and just not give a fuck. She can ride piggyback.

She's kinda useless cept for her TIG OLE BITTIES

Atleast to start off with, man is she terrible, and man is it weird she's got cat animations in the ACC.

Pervy Kojima be pervy.

And yes, I RIKE IT KOJIMA.

Just prease don't ask wat tuk me so rong.

Edit: Yes, I'm starting to hate this game. It crashed at the end of an hour-long mission that I stealthed because I kind of like to stealth, and the retarded, archaic piece of shit checkpoint system (which is terrible even for a fucking checkpoint system) took me all the way back to the very beginning of it.

Photosynthesis, riiiight Koji-senpai. At least I'm one bond point away from unlocking her tranq. She just kills everyone when an alert goes up, bad for recruitment.

And is there no way to cancel developments in progress?

EDIT: I've lost so many recruits to the shitty checkpoints, and there's always the chance that a blueprint I pick up disappears from the game forever.

There isn't.

Making her having to breathe through her tits was a great way to justify her tits hanging out though, so good job, Kojima. And yeah, she keeps killing people I'm taking down. Kinda infuriating, so I've gone back to D-dog for all side ops, and use her for main missions whilst having her send off to scout a far-away outpost

Edit: Yeah, the checkpoint system... Eurgh. I had to use the Windows file-rollback on the savefile because the checkpoints bugged out so the freaking guy that had the heavy-fulton blueprint disappeared.

Fox Engine is too damn hyped, it's decent at best. And at it's worst, as with the saving, it's a steaming pile o' poop.

I'm so confused by the last few pages.

Who gives a fuck about the scoring system in MGS? So, you're 'rewarded' with a high five if you turn it into a murder simulator? Ok......yup, don't care. Still playing how I want and enjoying my S, A, B ranks.

Ozzy is trolling right? He just has to be.

GMP rewards are based off of the ranks. If you go guns blazing with a rocket launcher you're likely to get 5x as much GMP as otherwise.

And it being so irrelevant is just another reason that it shouldn't be in the game to start with, or atleast be so fucking terrible.

I didn't know that. I was under the impression that it's more the standard in the genre to receive a higher score/increased points for playing stealth.

I don't really pay attention to the ranks much, just try to pick up all the specialists/blueprints etc. Which I fail at anyways, so. I'm still enjoying the game a lot, but it's definitely got its niggles.

Played through Ravenholm level in HL2 and it was a lot more scary in my mind. I remember getting wrecked in this place when I was a teenager, especially the part where you need to wait "the thing that I don't know the name in English and I'm to lazy right now to look it up" to neet with father Grigori. Still has an awesome atmosphere after all these years.

Hm.

Still enjoying the stealth though. Or "Recruiting for Mother Base while completing objectives"

Stealth gets you a heavy bonus. All stealth, no kills gives you a hefty bonus that influences yout score and thus your rank.

Oh yeah, me too. For the most part, when the checkpoints don't fuck you in the ass without even having the courtesy to use lube.

Sigh. It's just a really, really dumb way to design a stealth game.

Anyway, am off to bed. Nighty peoples.

And the amount of time that would take gives you a much bigger minus than said bonus is worth 95% of the time, which is why it's daft.
