That's a pretty terrible computer. Thief 1 + 2 are old enough they may work, but as somebody else mentioned stay FAR away from STALKER. That's a modern game that needs power to run it.

But Stalker should be fine on a laptop that runs stuff like Skyrim without issue, right? Does the Complete mod make it more demanding?

It is just one of those games. If you can run Skyrim though should be fine.

STALKER is VERY demanding. Skyrim isn't as demanding.

I have DAO on PS3 and am probably about 70% done with it and.. It's pretty good. I'm tempted to get the OG version but I'm not sure I'm gonna play through it all again. I'd ask for advice but I already know what people are going to say.

Never played it without the complete mod (so can't compare), but from everything I've read, the complete mod is supposed to make it run much better.

CoP has a benchmark program you can download (I think) to test the performance.

Well, just gonna have to see how it runs then! I'd be surprised if it isn't at least playable. Only payed €2.49 for it anyway, so not a big loss either way, and if it turns out that my laptop isn't up to the task I guess I'll just keep it in my backlog until I get a new one. Have sooo many other games to play anyway.

Well there's an element of strategy in the PC version that's just not there in the console versions. Zooming out and planning the battle made it quite different imo

The timing feels off by just a hair sometimes, which is kinda game breaking when you have to be incredibly precise. I still really like it, my favorite from the Bit Trip series and worth $2.50.

That's probably due to input lag on your monitor/TV.

I haven't played the console version myself but general consensus seems to be that the PC version and console versions are almost two different games due to the controls.

Really? I'm Argentinian too, and had the $22.75 price on the daily sale. I think there was someone else with the same price as me, but don't remember who it was. I remember it pretty well 'cause I had just bought the game 2 weeks before from Amazon, at 30 bucks (still totally worth it!).

Me. The Rockstar games took quite a while to be available, at least they are cheaper

Balances somewhat with Live's unavailability and EA's idiotic pricing though...

I've played a fair amount of both versions and the basic differences come down to:

1. Controls - Hotkeys + Mouse Precision make a big difference
2. PC version is a bit more difficult due to the additional enemies.
3. Skill bar (PC) vs. skill wheel (Console)
4. Isometric View

I got the same error while trying to launch a different game, and running Steam as Administrator fixed it. Maybe that could help.

If you can get Dragon Age + Awakenings you are pretty ok.

looks like I can. Awakenings wasn't listed on the DA:O page, but as a different title altogether.

Also, their math is weird:

Whereas buying DA:O non deluxe + DA:OA separately is is $8.74.
