I bought Quake and Quake 2. I put hundreds of hours into these games when they came out and haven't touched them since the 90's. This is going to be a crazy time warp.

Looking at the Square Enix pack, I'm just curious to know why the hell is The Last Remnant still $40 regular price? The game is like 2 years old now.

This baffles me, it has been on sale once (excluding publisher catalog discounts) I believe, where it was $10, unfortunately I missed out. Fingers crossed for a sale on it tomorrow but I am certainly not holding my breath.

Okay, Sanctum is pretty awesome.

I mean, it's still a little rough around the edges but the concept is cool as hell.

I'll play around with it a little more to get the ticket and then try to enjoy so co-op.

Try changing your download region under Steam > Settings > Download + Cloud. Are you in North America? So is practically everybody else trying to download stuff at the same time. Try changing your download region to, say, Czech Republic and see if it improves your speed. You can always change it back.

I've had fast downloads the whole sale this way.

Thanks, Czech Rep didn't improve things, but once I changed it to South America, I'm getting 200 KB/S.

Do the old Quake games even play properly on Win 7 64 bit?

Biggest Steam day ever for me, and still less than half the price of a new retail game for all that.
If you haven't clicked accept yet, cancel rift.

I know it's cool to hate on mmos, but rift give a whole new meaning to the phrase mind numbing.

I know it is probably a long shot, but does anyone have an extra copy of Killing Floor to gift from when it was $5? I missed out on it. Can paypal or gift item of equal value

Just caved on Counter-Strike: Source. I don't know very much about this game at all, just that it's extraordinarily popular...do I need anything other than just CSS, like Day of Defeat, Ricochet, etc, or is just CSS by itself enough?

CSS is its own beast

Isnt rift an MMO with a monthly fee?

I am so pumped to get Audio Surf and CSS finally, been waiting on deals forever. Only Trackmania is left on my hopes for sales, I am loving this.

I doubt Bloodlines will go any cheaper. Still hoping for Morrowind myself, but rapidly losing faith on that one. It probably would have been the first day with Oblivion.

They don't want you to remember how amazing Morrowind was before Skyrim, they want you to remember how bad Oblivion was instead.

I've been on the NY server the whole sale, and for 95% of it have had my full 1.1MB/s speeds going. I think you people who keep switching all the time are your own worst enemies. CoH going at that speed right now, at 50% already.

Rift is utter shit, guys. The engine it runs on is shit, it's gameplay is shit, and it's community is shit.

It's fun for an hour. Trying all the classes and such, but it's just not a good game. Steer clear, and wait for Tera, Guild Wars 2, or ToR.

I was looking at a 4 pack of Sanctum but does it really have only 3 maps? That's seems extremely limited for a tower defense game? Maybe I'll just stick to defense grid...

There are 4 with the 4th being endless. Also 3 difficultly levels with 20 stages and unlike DG you are in and out of first person where you set and upgrade your towers so it's just not an overhead clickfest. Easily worth the asking price.

Nah. Generally, Steam just seems slow to me. Faster ones only gets me about half of my 1.8MB/s download compare to full speed with Amazon and D2D. NY is one of the faster server at ~950KB/s even half way across the US. The ones closer to me are all slow and inconsistent. Now, that I said that, NY is going to get hammer.

As a veteran MMO player and as someone that put in a fair amount of time with Rift at launch, while I don't agree entirely about the community, the gameplay and the engine are definitely pretty poor. The rifts are really just PQs from WAR. Most every other aspect of that game is aped from WoW or EQ, mostly the former. There's some decent art in that game, but with the other options on the market I don't think it's worth the effort. Especially not as long as the game is tied to that awful engine.

If the NY server works for you, that's great, don't switch. The point isn't "change servers all the time," it's "find and use a server that works for you." If someone is getting 0 kbps on their default server, then they have nothing to lose by switching and everything to gain.

What's wrong with Rift?
I'll go into some detail.

First, the good stuff. The developers are pretty dang good. They're quick to respond to bugs, they have a presence on the forums, and seem like nice guys. The class system is unique. Unique does not mean good, however. The graphics are very pretty (when standing still), and the art direction in SOME things is very impressive. The gameplay is solid in that it doesn't glitch or isn't unresponsive. Plays like Warhammer Online.

And...that's it. The game is HORRIBLY unbalanced. PVP is a joke. Because you can switch your class on the fly (you pick from four main archetypes in the beginning, then can switch between 9 classes inside those archetypes on the fly) you can basically be the flavor of the month class anytime. But it's not like WoW. There are classes that can do 5k+ damage in ONE ATTACK while you can only do 1k at most. There are classes that CANNOT BE STUNNED. There are classes that DON'T RUN OUT OF MANA. It's just insane. There's no balance. PVP sucks.

Then you have the game itself. Most of the environments are bland and the character/monster models are generic. Spell effects are either really awesome or incredibly weak. Armor models are laughably plain. The game chugs even on very powerful machines. It runs fine with no AA...but who wants to play with no AA.

Gameplay-wise it's fine, but it's WoW, just not as "smooth". Melee range is incredibly short, however. You have to be basically on top of the enemy to attack. Quests are the generic type. Fetch this, kill this, etc. Leveling is like WoW, except it's a little more evened out. Everything is like WoW. Two sides, instances, heroic instances, raids, battlegrounds...it's a carbon-cut copy.

I don't know, it's just...not very good. Not bad, but I see MMOs as an investment, and with so many AAA MMOs on the horizon I just don't see this one surviving.

I should have said the sense on community, not the community itself. Towns are ghost towns except on the most populated servers.

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
Command & Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath

How are these two for single-player only?

I keep seeing people saying RA3:Uprising is awful. Is it bad because it's single-player only or is it just bad?

Already gonna get RA3 and tempted by the others.

I have 20 days of playtime put into rift over two months or so, and with all it offers you're getting a heck of a deal for $10.
