Man most of these deals are terrible.

Good Games:
Amnesia
Mafia 2
The Last Remnant
Divinity 2 DKS
Dirt 3
Splinter Cell 1 & chaos theory
Mass Effect 1
Empire/Napolean

Meh Games:
Splinter Cell Conviction and double agent

Mass Effect 2
Mafia 2 is "Good" but Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 GOTY are "Meh"? Your standards continue to amaze.

Yes. ME2's performance on PC is excellent. Activating AA via CCC or Geforce driver may cause a noticable fps hit though.
Are there a lot of awkward keyboard keys in ME/ME2?

My keyboard keys are blank. It doesn't bother me when I play Starcraft 2, but something like this, I prefer using a controller.

What I'm asking is do I have to reach my hand towards the right side of the keyboard to hit some obscure key every now and then?

Finally got Last Remnant. I was hoping for it to show up for the past two sales. Also picked up Fallout 3, but not sure if I'll ever play it.

I haven't been able to do that though the Nvidia control panel... Is there some kind of special method like with Dead Space?

I'm thinking of getting Conviction but iv never played any Splinter cell's.
Please don't crucify me
Is it a straight follow on from the others or could i jump in and learn from whats going on?

It's been simplified greatly in Conviction. If anything, it'd better prepare you if you someday decided to play the more demanding SC 1 or Chaos Theory.

EDIT: Or maybe you were talking strictly about story. Splinter Cell has never been about the story for me. I suppose it's nice to know what's happening, but it's also kind of stupid. You won't really be missing a whole lot.

wonder what amnesia would be like on a controller...

It would be a major downgrade. You need the accuracy of a mouse to properly interact with the physics and open/slam doors in a hurry, it would be pretty clumsy with a gamepad.

you can do it, son

The story almost doesn't matter (though they do continue the plot of the previous game, Double Agent mostly). If you haven't played the older SC's you will probably enjoy it more. It's not like the older SCs where they were super stealthy, Conviction feels more like Jason Bourne/Jack Bauer-y.

You would be like a panther, you might say.

hmm i like both them characters. For the price would you say its worth the pick up for pc? or is it a short game with no depth?

I played it with a wiimote for a while, was nice.

I have Mass Effect 1 & 2 on the 360, but I'm debating getting them for PC. I want to replay them, and I plan on building a new PC next year and maybe combining the master race with the comfy couch... I feel like stocking up, ha.

Well great. Somehow I miss-clicked and now have a random car for a game I don't own in my earned prizes. Really wish they would have a pop-up "are you sure?" window when redeeming tickets. I wasn't even using any tickets, I was just scrolling down the page.

It's not like there's anything redeemable that I really want at this point, but they better not use these tickets for something else or I'm going to be pissed.
I have Steam open in two windows: one where I'm logged in, and one incognito/private where I'm not. I only browse the prize page with incognito so as not to waste tickets.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool, a Wiimote or a Move controller would be much more appropriate than a gamepad since the controls are supposed to feel "natural", if you know what I mean.

Don't get them again, you already have them on your comfy couch machine. They don't even support 360 pad natively.

It is much much much much less of an issue in the PC version, but the enemies do scale with your battle rank. I would recommend just playing normally, fighting what you see. Don't grind, but don't worry about avoiding fights.

EDIT: One tip, though: fighting enemies that are way above you (battles that start with the morale gauge entirely in the enemy's favor) give you lots of stat boosts with minimal impact on your battle rank, so if you did want to grind, that's how you'd want to do it.
True. It's also really important to note that grinding via chaining doesn't make you abominably weak like it did in the 360 version. That was so fucking out of whack on console it was hilarious - you could become so frail that you'd never be able to win against some of the optional bosses, and even average boss fights were harder than necessary.

But of course, the game doesn't ever tell you this dirty little secret. In fact it encourages you to get chains of enemies because you get more items at the end of battle. Thankfully the PC version fixes this.

I <3 TLR, but fuck the console version with a tractor gear. Everyone should play it on PC.

How long is Amnesia? Does it actually have an interesting story?

It's fine if it doesn't. I can understand it being a series of puzzles and running from a terrifying foe. I'm just trying to figure it out so I can sell it to others. :p
Amnesia's story is a bit, subtle. But it's anything but uninteresting.

It's got an interesting storyline unlike GTA games I find. The combat is swell, as are the missions.

Mass Effect 2 is better in a few ways than the first, but in others it's three steps back.

Fallout 3 is not a bad game, but new vegas shits all over it, so why buy a worse version?

I'm pretty sure it does ask for confirmation.

The main campaign is somewhat short, but the extra infiltration/deniable ops game modes are quite fun, and add a lot of playtime. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and would say it's worth the price.

I like the controller though.

People who say no controller support isn't a minus suck at playing fps on controllers?

Can't decide if I want to start mass effect on PC or X360.

There's a mod that adds in 360 support for ME2 on PC. It's not perfect (I think you can't see the squad orders or something in the pull up menu), but it seemed quite good, and even has the correct prompts. Never used it myself as I prefer kb/m.

I find it strange that the PC versions don't include X360 controller support when other big games do.

What were they thinking?

Nah it is your basic WASD shooter, with R for reload and in ME 1 the E key for certain actions. There are no major keyboard acrobatics in either ME 1 or 2.

Mass Effect on the PC is designed to be played with a mouse and keyboard that is why they do not do joypad support in the PC version. I quite like it that way myself.

In the first one they redid the UI for the better and gamepad would nto be good at all for it. I think in the second the ui is different as well for kb/m, although I don't recall thinking it was really any better.

Anyone? To both questions?

It was on sale for $20 on Steam and D2d. But with the 15% off code you could get it for $17 on D2D. There's an insane amount of content in the game and it's generally pretyt well received and looks rather good. It's up to you if it's worth $20 or not.

There is a demo that I thought was a pretty decent demo.

It does have pretty bad DRM and I'd crack it if I were getting it via Steam.

Umm... Steam won't launch for me and the reinstaller just stays stuck right at the end. Anyone else experience this?

I found the inventory in ME1 pretty cumbersome and confusing, but it could be navigated with the directional keys (as far as I remember) so I think they could have easily added pad support, they just didn't care enough to do it.

Don't get me wrong, I would go with KB/M anyways, but there is no excuse for Bioware to skimp on pad support, especially since they're a console focused developer now.

Wait, I just saw Company Of Heroes in my games list. I don't remember buying it at all, though I did put it in my cart for a bit before removing it because ew, RTS.

What's going on, GAF?

Ugh, never mind, I must have bought it earlier on and just can't remember, sorry GAF.

In ME1 didn't they create like a hotbar along the bottom with powers? That works great for m/kb, but not so well for gamepad.

I was nodding my head until the last statement. FO3 is way better than FNV to me. The Legion is a silly, silly enemy.

I would like to add that Mafia 2 also looks phenomenal. Like stepping into the 50s. Really dig the aesthetic of that game.

I didn't know ME2 didn't support the 360 pad, thought it was just ME1.

It doesnt? Thats crazy then...especially since games like Batman and even Witcher II fully support the controller. Well still the PC version beats out the 360 if you can find a way to use a controller with either.

Sidenote: Borderlands feels better with a controller too.

I didn't like Divinity 2 at all. I really don't like how the combat plays out and that is like 98% of the game.

I believe so, but there could always be an input toggle in the menu that changes it up so the pad can open the powers by pushing a thumbstick or trigger. The hotbar is definitely nice, though, much quicker than a poopy radial menu and analog stick.

I was more referring to the inventory and menus and stuff, I've wiped it from my memory for the most part, but I remember struggling with it a lot.

Still doesn't make it a "Meh" game or worse than Mafia 2, which it most certainly isn't.

It isn't a "worse version". It is a completely different game altogether. I prefer New Vegas as well, that doesn't suddenly make Fallout 3 GOTY a "Meh". You give these impressions that seem completely knee-jerk and hyperbolic. It really does seem like you barely played them or that you chose to give the worst kind of blurby off-hand dismissal. Both games are well worth the sales prices they currently have, and people here would be better off ignoring your impressions and looking elsewhere, even if it means degrading themselves by going by metacritic scores alone.

Unless there is some insane stuff tomorrow, then I'm finally done. Well unless borderlands sneaks back on the last day. Fuck me what a ride this year .. last year I spend close to 20 dollars on the summer sale .. winter closer to 100 ... this year close to 200.

luckily I think I'm reaching the point where there is little I don't/ want-to own on steam. Next sale will be cake walk!

I bought The Last Remnant and Amnesia, but Steam has been "working" at the review+purchase page for awhile now...

Should I just reset or wait for it to finish?

I just found exploring in NV to be more fun and less crashy than anything in fallout 3 really. I put about 85+ hours into NV whereas I could only stand about 10-20 hours in either FO3 or Oblivion.

83 hours is a long time for me to play a game. The only other game that was up there was probably Xenosaga 1 around 50 and Dragon Age Origins around 60.

Such a good sales day. Think I'll rest at Mass Effect 1 + 2, Amnesia and Fallout 3 GOTY.

I only have two games on my wishlist now: Bloodlines and Portal 2.
