Environments (minus the pretty sky thing) were dull, battles were simplistic, writing was generally poor (damn you Alexander O. Smith), character designs were unmemorable, UI was a mess (I had no fucking idea what was going on), no world map. Could NOT get into it.

As has been said before, demos for JRPGs are almost all crap. I played the demo for Tales of Vesperai, hated it, and eventually rented it and loved the hell out of it. They are a slow burn so a short demo really doesn't do them any justice.

Most of those are a side effect of the demo, although the UI was because it was a 360 game hastily ported over to the PC.

For some reason, Square Enix thought the best demo for the game was two of the most boring locations right after the tutorial, instead of the tutorial itself.

Wow, even switching regions around isn't helping that much anymore. I had great download speeds from Seattle(Comcast) for the entire sale and today I can't buy speeds > 300k. Oh well, good thing I don't really *NEED* Napoleon:TW right now, I'll just play one of the other games I've bought so far.

Alright finally caved in and bought Fallout 3 GOTY. $10.19 for the game plus all 5 DLC's is just too much of a good deal to pass up.

So damages for today are The Last Remnant and Fallout 3 GOTY for a total of: $20.18.

The total I spent during this steam summer sale eclipses all past steam sales thus far ><

Comcast user as well? I normally get 1MB off the Toronto or the DC Comcast server, but today they're just slow as shit. DC server isn't even working for me, and Toronto is only giving me 500kB at best.

Which isn't helping for three 16 GB games.

TLR's UI in the full game is great.

World map isn't needed, unless you mean zone map, which I don't remember but there is definately a minimap

Battles at the beginning might be simplistic but not really the rest of the game, they tend to be challenging enough.

Is the console version of the Last Remnant really THAT much worse than the PC version?

It's unoptimized and laggy. The actual gameplay isn't much different, but it's almost unplayable if you don't install to the harddrive.

The PC version was improved tons more than the 360 version, almost tailored for PC users after the fact, if you could say that.

Still though!
Mirror's edge has been $5 before, I think last year. You should have gotten it then.

Let's not over exaggerate. It's a lousy port only redeemed because the original was so messed up, the core game was good, and it was perfect from a technical standpoint.

Any chance of Crysis 2 going on sale? I want to try out the new features.

edit: oh poop. forgot about that whole Origin/Steam fiasco.

Crysis 2 was removed from the Steam store. Because of... someone. I wasn't really following the melodrama over that.

IDK seems like a lot of nice changes.

Also Lousy? It runs great on my system.

Lousy in the sense that it wasn't originally designed for the PC, and they took no effort into adding a PC-friendly interface or a proper demo. (You can certainly play it with the KB+Mouse, but it's far easier just to plug a 360 controller in.)

Are all the COH campaigns patched into the current version of CoH? I don't feel like wanting to redownload them for different SP campaigns.

All the COH games share the same install folder basically on steam. Don't worry about it.

If you download ToV you download all the others as well at the same time.

You can play it either way really, the PC UI is fine.

I don't know why, but American dollars have been replaced by what I think are British pounds.

I tried logging out and logging back in, but it's still the same everywhere but on my Wishlist, which still lists the price in American dollars.

Splinter Cell Double Agent on the PC is quite different from Double Agent on the Xbox. I knew that going in, since they were from two different teams, but Double Agent on the PC has a much weaker narrative than I expected. Still, it's nice to get back into the stealthier Splinter Cell style after playing Conviction guns blazing on the hardest difficulty with no trouble. And it's not bad for $3 (though are my eyes deceiving me, or does it lack some effects from the 360 version?).

Much much worse, I could barely play it.Between the framerate and some bad design choices the game i just not that good. The PC is awesome, nice framerate and they fixed a ton of stuff, it is worth the 10 bucks.

That was from the website.

I logged into the Steam application and everything is in US dollars.

Weird.

Can I play Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory with an Xbox 360 controller?

You can find Crysis 2 around on some sites for pretty cheap nowadays. My copy was £11.99 a few weeks ago. Forget where from, might have been Amazon.

It won't recognize the triggers iirc. Need xpadder or something to use it fully.

I just missed the Daily sale for Sanctum and it looks like something I'd really enjoy. Anybody in for a 4-pack? It's $6.67 each, and you'd have an instant 3 buddies for 4-player co-op. I'm happy to do the buying myself.

Post here or just friend me and message me on Steam, my name is Hawkian there too.
I have an extra copy I'll sell you for the sale price. $2.50

Add me on Steam.

I waffled all day about buying Empire/Napoleon Total War. It was tough, but I can't do it, even though they're cheap. Just watching videos of these games has made me realized I'm not cut out for that kind of strategy game. I'd rather save ten bucks and try to learn Dwarf Fortress (almost typed Fartress) instead.

But there's still half a day to convince me that a complete strategy newbie can enjoy these games! Anyone...?

Chuck

Still without luck
Yeah, Borderlands sounds right.

But get Fallout 3 GOTY too.

And Mass Effect is awesome too so get that as well.

try the demo

CoH sale the other day made me reinstall. I only got 4 hours of sleep tonight because I lost track of time playing it. It's a great game, once I figure it out I want to try MP... doesn't look like GAF has any threads on it tho.

Well.. You can always auto resolve the battles if you don't enjoy the strategy, and just play some of the battles.

I'm also new to these types of games, and I bought it. I'm sure a new player can handle it, I assume there are difficulty levels, and some sort of tutorial. It got 90 and 81/100 on metacritic, it's got to be a pretty enjoyable experience

I'm more into shooters than RPGs. Which game is less likely to disappoint, Mass Effect, Fallout 3 or Borderlands?
I'd probably go with Borderlands too. Larger focus on guns probably puts it ahead of the others. So many toys to play with...
