Do you have a quad core processor? If so, check this out:
http://trebleclick.blogspot.com/2009/04/fallout-3-crash-fix.html

Also, I highly recommend installing the unoffical patch for fallout 3 if you haven't done so already:
http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3808

But yea, it's a buggy game. I had over 25 crashes in my playthrough of FO3 until I used the quad core fix, and it's been pretty stable since.

I dunno. Do you like achievements? If no, then get rid of it. Besides, if you want to use mods that use FOSE (fallout script extender), then you need to get rid of gfwl.

GFWL can be completely ignored, unless you like collecting useless achievements. There is even a mod that removes it.

Edit:sentence sounded harsher than intended.

Could be any number of reasons. The game crashes randomly. With that said, I can't play the game if vsync is off, it will freeze pretty quick. So if vsync is off try that. Beyond that, I couldn't tell you, Gamebryo engine is a pos.

Turned off vsync but the game still freezes during the tutorial =/

With console commands you can get every GFWL achievement in the game in about 3 minutes.

Just saying.
I really don't give a damn about achievements. The only reason I ask is because I've yet to buy a game of steam that actually supports GFW, so I'm not sure if signing in is necessary for anything other than achievements. Since it's a Steam title I assume their isn't, but I wanted to double check.

EDIT: Never mind, google found it.

Today was my final purchase. Unless something comes in at $2 that I have to have.

Games I picked up during the sale are:

Batman AA: GOTY
BioShock 2
Braid
Fallout 3: GOTY
Fallout : New Vegas + Both DLC
GTA Collection
GTA IV + Lost and the Damned
HOARD
Just Cause 2
Kings Bounty Collection
Laura Croft and the Guardian of Light
Magicka
Portal 2
X3: Terran Conflict.

In total It's 21 games + 2 DLC addons for about $5 each.

I love Steam sales.

Right so for anyone out there who cares about the X3 ticket, I've tried twice now and blown up two Solar Power Plants the SLOWWWWWWWWWWW way, each taking 20+ minutes.

First I blew up my own plant that came with the dlc, then the one from the first sector, minimizing the game while firing my lasers.

I did not get the ticket either time, don't think I'll try again until I get a bigger ship, but first I have to figure out how to do that lol.

Ticket broken?
I downloaded and used a save file as described in this Steam thread (see post 6) and it worked. I also had to use the shift-C->combat->attack bit described further down in order to get the missiles to target.

It worked for me when I blew up a plant that wasn't mine, though I noticed that Steam said it finished downloading something when I closed the game after my first attempt that didn't work. Maybe the game is slow to update for the achievement?

Ok since I can't play Fallout 3, are there a lot of crashes while playing Fallout: New Vegas? I need to know before opening it.

Yea, try that quad core fix. Even though you have a dual core, it has hyperthreading which the game will see as 4 processors.

I had A LOT fewer crashes with NV than I did with FO3.

With all that stuff I got now, I still have 15 and change in my wallet. We shall see if anything really cheap comes along.

Why can't you play Fallout 3? Won't start? They're built on the same engine, and people had very similar troubles with both games.

Assuming tomorrow is a best of, is there anyway to make an educated guess at what will be returning? Is it just the twelve best sellers?

Hm so no official fix from Bethesda? Thanks for the mod links.

And Less NV crashes than FO3, that's good to hear.

Game keeps freezing during the beginning tutorial.

I can't get the ticket for downloading a trailer, it gives me an error about not enough disk space. Which makes no sense because I have tons of disk space.

Final List...

Borderlands DLC - Claptrap Revolution
Dawn of War 2: Retribution
Total War: Shogun 2 + DLC
Bioshock 2
Two Worlds 2
Fallout New Vegas DLC - Dead Money + Honest Hearts
Audiosurf
Risen
The Last Remnant
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Drakensang: The River of Time

Total Spent = $133.67

I was hoping to stay around $100 but decided to splurge on Shogun 2 after playing the demo.

I wish I could get "Terraria." It's ashamed that it is PC only, please come to Mac. For 2.49 I would definitely buy that game!

I think you're out of luck, there. Terraria uses XNA Framework which as far as I know is Windows exclusive, and built using XNA Game Studio, so I'd say your best bet is bootcamp, but who knows? In time they might have a mac client, or something.

Yeah, that's not normal. I can't say for sure whether you'll have better luck with NV. My suggestion is to get NV from Best Buy if it is still on sale ($10) so you'll be out less money if it doesn't run. You may want to poke around and see if there's a way to fix your current crash (like trying the quad core fix and updating your audio drivers if possible).

=( You just unsold me with the campaign not being much part heh, was in my cart all day too. I hadn't planned on playing any co-op, just single player.

Don't let me discourage you, the SupCom2 campaign is certainly no worse than most RTS efforts. I'm more a skirmish and co-op guy, but the mechanics are the same so for the price, you cannot - I assure you - go wrong.

A real gem. Do it. DO IT!

I wrote this earlier, but to reiterate:

And just remember, when you’ve researched the Galleon tech in the Cybran tech tree and all of a sudden you see your entire Cybran navy en route to a designated location turn in towards the coast and lumber up onto Terra Firma upon newly-researched legs – battleships thundering up through hundreds of their land-based comrades with elephantine grace and offering a supportive broadside from their naval batteries – you’ll know you’re onto something special.

Yeah. SupCom2 is awesome.

Damn temptations. Is the DLC worth it for single player or is that just for skirmish and multi?

Most of all the crashes I had with NV were because of mods and conflicts. Even then, it was absurdly stable for a beth engine game. Also from Obsidian who are notorious for buggy games which is rather ironic.

IMO supcom2 is really poor. For $4 I'd say it's worth it, but not full price, absolutely not full price. Especially if you loved the older games, you'll probably hate this one.

Game keeps freezing during the beginning tutorial.

Constant crashing is usually fixed by this tweak:

In fallout.ini (under documents>my games>Fallout3) make the following changes:
bUseThreadedAI=1

and add this line to [General]:
iNumHWThreads=2

edit: oh already mentioned

Nope, no official fix as far as I'm aware. The same thing happened with Oblvion, another bethesda game, where there was a fanmade patch fixing things bethesda failed to fix.

But yea, your NV experience may be different, but from my experience and from most others I've talked to, they said NV was still buggy, but much less so than FO3.

Side note:

Why is supcom 1 not on steam? I already own from d2d, but still, it'd be nice to see it on steam.

After reading the other thread, I decided to add on Stubbs the Zombie, the Meridian4 adventure pack, and the Broken Sword triple pack, so that's an additional $29.17 for 10 more games, one of which I already owned. Grand total $79.30 I think, for an average of $4.41 per game if I calculated properly. :)

For me NV crashed twice in the 15 hours I put into it, both times during auto-saves while fast traveling.

Also the last patch corrupted my previous save, but that isn't something you'll see much. Apparently it was common on the 360, but I had it happen on the PC :(

For 3.75, it's not bad, and they've supported it well. And if you're asking, you're probably not a fan of SupCom1 so you won't have a huge problem with all the simplifications they've made.

The first one had some unique features that they removed in the second, in trying to make it more accessible. Maybe they succeeded with that, but it feels generic to me now.

The added units and tech are worth the price of admission alone. The DLC however is primarily for skirmish/multi/co-op. I do recommend at least trying some skirmish, because it's one of those games that allows you to experiment with specialising in particular teching-up strategies and messing about with all the units is a ton of fun.

Picked up the PA episodes and VTMB, hopefully I'll get my 5 dollar morrowind and *any* kind of puzzle quest 2 discount over the holiday sale.

Picked up:

San Andreas
Oblivion GOTY
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Star Wars KOTOR
Just Cause 2
Frozen Synapse
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. SoC
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. CoP
Batman Arkham Asylum
Mass Effect
Mass Effect 2
Terraria

Total: $67.02

I seriously will not finish all of these. So many RPG's which will take up my time. Frozen Synapse and Terraria have given me a new look on indie games. I would never have picked them up if everyone hadn't said great things about them. Figured I would try them both and it paid off. Great games.

As this is my first Steam sale, I was wondering when the next one is. Christmas? I was thinking that maybe I could hold out on Portal 2 and Deadspace 2 a little longer as I've already got a good list of games from this sale. I recognize they're great games but I was hoping not to spend too much. But, Christmas is a long time away...

Edit: Couldn't resist!

So I decided to look at this X superbox thing and it actually looks pretty cool. I'm pretty sure I saw people here saying to just get X3 but can anyone give some impressions? It looks good but I don't really know anything about it even after reading the info page.

Each iteration adds on to the last one, so everyone generally says to get X3:TC because it's the latest.

X3:TC crashes on starting after the config launcher for me in Win7x64 ;_;

Off to the tech support forums on Egosoft's site later tonight :(

Any opinions on Drakensang? I see Drakensang, and then The River of Time, and then a sequel to The River of Time. I was just going to get the first one.

Ok that was the one I was looking at anyway and it looks nice. How in depth of a strategy game is it? Are the space battles big and epic like everyone always wants in a space game?

Some weird things going on with the Steam store page.

The count down is at 3 hours now for the daily deals, and Terraria got bumped down to 50 percent off from 75. Glad I got in earlier when it was 75 off.
