I don't think it's the price that anyone's complaining about, or even that it increased, or even that it was only at the lower price for a short amount of time. I think it's that, for some people, purchasing it at the higher price so soon after it was at such a lower price feels distinctly foolish. It's not "$5 is too much," it's "but after everyone else only paid $2.50 I'd look like a sap." I think people are just upset because they want to buy Terraria but now their pride won't let them. Dignity demands that they wait a week and pay full price.

I think it's more that a Steam sale increasing in price without warning isn't standard practice and also kind of a dick move. I mean, I bought it at $5, so it obviously doesn't bug me that much, but it's still somewhat annoying.

I'm really hoping Just Cause 2 gets back on sale. I missed it by a couple of minutes unfortunately and after watching some of the mods for it i really want to get it

@ ghostbusters - phew, quad here and it was part of my 360 haul when migrating to steam. hoping it plays smooth/looks at least a bit better?
also, am i talking out my ass or wasn't it like $5 last halloween or so?

It looked fine to me, just performance issues. Though I think there is an issue using vsync the mouse not feeling right. That should be easily fixed just using D3Doverrider though I'm guessing.

Call of Duty 4 fucking sucks on PC. All the servers have way to high player count, too many snipers, some insane rule like no sprinting, must crouch all the time etc or the server is one map 24/7.

Eh it happens with the sales. Mistakes happen ever year with pricing. If I see a game at a price I want, I get it. If I hear I missed out on a great deal and the price is higher, so be it.

It seems even sillier to complain considering how cheap Terarria is.
Oh, same. I remember when Valve put TF2 on sale for like $1 for one hour only. While I was at work or something. Didn't stop me from eventually buying it but still: dammit.

Had Terraria stayed at $2.50, I might have picked it up sometime before the daily ended as an impulse buy. When it changed to $5, that probability disappeared, but only because I wasn't that interested in it in the first place.

Just Cause 2 is just flat out amazing in general. I can spend so much time just flying around in the chopper and blowing stuff up. Not to mention it is one gorgeous looking game

I got pissed because it was €2.5 when I added it to the cart, €5 when I proceeded to checkout. No way I could support such moves.

That too. If you were in the middle of purchasing it totally feels like bait & switch, regardless of their intentions.

I NEVER played a space or flight sim, is X3 a good place to start? Is it playable with mouse & keyboard? Does it take dozens of hours to learn the controls (I'm okay with a "you need time to be good" game, but not a "you need time to learn how to do basic things") ?

You can play it fine with a mouse and keyboard. It has a default control scheme that feels like a distant cousin of Freelancer...which might not mean much if you've never played a space fighter/flight game. I'd say you'd be better off looking towards a more traditional dogfighter game like Descent: Freespace if you're looking for a shooty-shoot. If you don't mind a slow grind of careful choices and accumulation of wealth, goods, etc., and are looking for a massive and meaty sandbox game to play out your galactic corporate dreams in...

...X3: Terran Conflict is the king. Unless you want to pay per month, then you go to EVE.

I have to say though, while I loved the empire building aspect, after 30 hours or so I was done with the game. There is not enough challenge in the business aspect of the game for me, and the interface is not prepared for managing a large business empire. Getting to have a nice business is nice, but once you have your first proper factory complex, there's just not all that much left if you ask me.

Oh, and I thought anything related to piloting ships yourself was pointless :p. Should've spent more dev time on business aspect, and no time on piloting shit.

What of the following tickets are easy and quick if I hardly played the games before?
team fortress 2
Toki Tori
Magicka
Nation Red
And Yet It Moves
Left 4 Dead 2
RusH
Sanctum
Audiosurf
Tidalis
Poker Night (thought I had it, won a hand with 6 and 9, but nothing).
Fortix 2
Atom Zombie Smasher?
Day of defeat
X3 -terran conflict

I would like to get 1-4 tickets and then I'm probably satisfied.

I have a spare copy of Frozen Synapse if anyone wants to buy it off me. I bought the pack that included two copies and the soundtrack but no one I know wants the game. I'm not really looking to trade it for a game as the only games I currently want is Witcher 2 and Alice and they cost a lot more then FS. The pack cost £11 during the sale so im happy to let it go for £5 if that sounds fair?

First come first serve, PM me your steam name and we can sort it out from there :)

Edit: Gone

TF2, Day of Defeat, L4D2, Magicka, Sanctum, are the fastest I think. X3 is pretty fast if you download a savegame for it. TF2 takes around few minutes, DoD takes around 5-10, L4D2 around 20-30 depending on difficulty, Sanctum minute or 2, Magicka around 20

Yeah, but you're Kabouter. :p

I can see where you're coming from, though. I'd be interested to see what Egosoft do with the next X game to make the sectors/universe more dynamic. For me, what makes the franchise so wonderful is the ambience. Autopilot and flicking through menus on an upgraded computer system. It's more the mindset of the X games that set them apart.

Even with the price increase Terraria is still dirt cheap. Hell, it was dirt cheap without the sale.

I can understand to an extent complaining about EA/Activision pricing, but a game like Terraria? Come on...

It's not so much the price as the buzzkill when a great deal for an anticipated game gets a little less great. Particularly when there was opportunity to take advantage. It's frustrating to see prices in your cart change. An hour of the game washed away whatever bitter flavour was left over from that, though. And replaced it with a seething hatred for slimes.

Great game. Definitely worth the $5, in my opinion.

Haha, what!?

I just wanted to say that I stayed up all night playing Terraria with a few buddies and it's crack. It's more than worth the $5.00 they are asking. Now I have to go to work with no sleep.

Can you get the Audiosurf ticket (painting 21 blocks red) in Vegas mode?

I guess you could, but isn´t choosing that mode a way of making it harder than it has to be? I took the ticket by playing Oxygene IV in Pointman Pro mode.

How do I remove stuff like Counter Strike Source Limited Beta and TF2 Beta from my games list?

I don't think you can, maybe if you contact Steam Support and ask them to, if you'll never use it. Otherwise, the thing to do is hide them in some dumpster category.

I'd love it if anyone could give me impressions on this, or other similarly priced sticks. I'm not going to go all-out seeing as I don't even know if I'll get into the game/genre, but it seems like it'd be hard to really enjoy this game with Mouse and Keyboard. If I'm wrong do say so though!

I bought that exact stick after the holiday sale. Haven't really used it much, but it's definitely a good value. Quality product for the money.

I would like to get 1-4 tickets and then I'm probably satisfied.

No effort required:
Day of defeat: very easy. Find an empty server with kalt and colmar. Win the map. Maybe you can even create your own server to get the achievement
team fortress 2: find a 2fort server, pick heavy, go outside
Magicka: local server, put drops on high and only the standard magicks. get rain, spam it

Don't need to have unlocked maps/levels, but the achievement itself can be tricky:
Audiosurf: use pointman pro or vegas. Pointman: fill the grid with a much blocks as you can, but leave 1 space open then wait for a red paint. Fill it completely, use paint. Vegas: same, but you get random powerups.
Left 4 Dead 2: you can play it offline on easy. The final map might be tricky, grab a pipebomb/bilebomb just after the first tank (you are in some kind of sewer) and use it when you are near the chopper. Also grab a melee weapon in the saferoom.

You need to have unlocked some maps/levels,
And Yet It Moves: it's in the third map, doesn't take too long.
Toki Tori: You need to finish the first world. Not too hard and shouldn't take much time. Solutions for the ticket are in the OP

I'm getting Supreme Commander 2, even though I've read so little about it (if somebody thinks I shouldn't, speak now or forever hold your peace).

I'm wondering about the DLC though. Has anyone tried Infinite War Battle Pack? Some thoughts would be appreciated.

So I might try for the Portal 2 ticket but I haven't touched co-op before. Does anyone need the Professor Portal achievement before I go for it?

For the price, it's not bad. Sadly it's a shade of its former release though. Wish Supreme Commander one was on steam :<

The campaign is just painful (mostly the forced acting). In fact, I might be too jaded to answer this for you, perhaps you should get more opinions.

Simply put. SP 1 >>>>>>>> SP 2

(Never tried the DLC, seems to add a few units, which the game damn well needs)

So in the future, can I re-download it from Steam if I lose my disk?

Assuming Supreme Commander 2 requires you to enter the key into Steam (which I think it may, but can't guarantee), yeah. You'll be required to tie the serial to your Steam account and play it through that. The disc will basically just operate as the download file. And even then, the game's gotten a lot of updates, so you'll probably have a hefty download before you can play the first time.

I think you can create as server for Colmar, as the objective is just planting bombs on targets. Kalt requires two people to capture the point in the middle of the map, though, so best to look for a server with a low population.

Kalt is a bitch to win a legitimate game on, too :p

You can do Kalt solo. Just need to spawn a bot through console, set sv_cheats to 0 and enter retry so the session retries. That's how I got it. Also need to set the bot to imitate you.

Yeah? This is on my wishlist and I just might buy one more ticket game today depending on what today's tickets are. I feel like I can squeeze out one more piece of DLC from the prize booth and I might as well grab that A Reckless Disregard for Gravity one since it's the last game in the prize booth I might ever buy.

My ticket redemption haul so far:

SpaceChem
Delve Deeper
Winter Voices
A.R.E.S.
Magicka
Beat Hazard
Team Fortress 2
Portal 2

I wonder if there's going to be any midweek madness as per usual on Tuesday, and if there isn't, if the public outcry is kept to a minimal now that most people are sated.
