I'd love it if anyone could give me impressions on this, or other similarly priced sticks. I'm not going to go all-out seeing as I don't even know if I'll get into the game/genre, but it seems like it'd be hard to really enjoy this game with Mouse and Keyboard. If I'm wrong do say so though!
A little OT but anyone know if this kind of sticks works well with Freespace? Or should I just be buying one of those sticks without the throttle?

btw, something that was never clear to me regarding Left 4 Dead. Is it co-op only?
It's co-op and versus, which is basically 2 co-op teams trading off. Bots fill in the empty spots but they're pretty dumb.

If you're on a dual core I wouldn't bother, it's a pretty bad port. Quad should be fine, though its still gonna be all over the place performance wise.

@ ghostbusters - phew, quad here and it was part of my 360 haul when migrating to steam. hoping it plays smooth/looks at least a bit better?
also, am i talking out my ass or wasn't it like $5 last halloween or so?

The Saitek X52 works great with X3:TC btw. I've had my eyes on it for a year now ;_;

Oh to only have a clue what any of this means. I hope this game is 1/2 the experience I'm hoping for.
He's talking about using the mouse to aim, and seta is basically a Fast Forward button, and autopilot is well, just that.

This isn't Freespace, this is a Space Simulator basically. It's a sandbox game where there's a storyline but it's not really important and easily ignored. It's all about setting up space stations and massing a fleet of fighter bros or merchant dudes flying trade lines to give you credits, and shooting up pirates with a wingman or two, or flying badass ships and exploring sectors with cool looking vistas.

It is a slow, slow game. It will beat you over the head, but if you give it a chance you'll grow to love it and will give you tons of fun for the buck.

No, there's a competitive mode where one side plays the special zombies and one side plays the survivors. It's great fun and more played than straight coop actually. It uses the same maps but it makes the game quite a bit more challenging.

No. There is also team-versus modes (one side plays as survivors, the other side controls special infected). You can also play with bots in the regular campaigns if you can't field a full team of four.

But, in general, the structure of the game is co-op oriented. There is no dedicated solo campaign and even the versus stuff is very much your team coordinating against the opposing team.

Thanks for the answers. :)
First L4D still has enough population so finding people won't be a problem? (I guess I will find out soon enough, but oh well)

Definitely not, it's got a very strong community and remember you only need 4-8 people to make a game. Not exactly hard to do that.

If Steam is denying the card but there's nothing wrong with the card, purchase through Paypal. They don't deny Paypal, even if Paypal gets the money from the same card Steam won't accept.

I NEVER played a space or flight sim, is X3 a good place to start? Is it playable with mouse & keyboard? Does it take dozens of hours to learn the controls (I'm okay with a "you need time to be good" game, but not a "you need time to learn how to do basic things") ?

I've used my card throughout the sale and haven't had any issues. I've only had download speed issues in Australia and sometimes the Steam webpages need a reload.

Wow, X3 looks amazing. I'm seriously considering getting it, but how steep are the system requirements?

My PC gaming is all done on my laptop at the moment. Anyone know how my cpu and gpu would handle it? Core i3-380M, GeForce GT540m

Terran Conflict came out October 2008 and recommends a 256MB video card. I think you should be okay.

I read that the next X game, X Rebirth, is coming out late this year. I'm planning on a new PC in the fall, so maybe I'll hold off on TC and get its successor.

I'd rather find out if I'm into the genre with a $5 investment first, plus I'm trying to put off my PC upgrades as long as possible. Still getting by on my Dual Core with a slight GPU upgrade to a GTX460, but I'm trying to avoid the whole new Mobo and CPU as long as I can.

When you pay with paypal (without funds in your paypal), it should pull the money direct from your bank and not touch the card. Are you sure Steam isn't just blocking your account from making purchases, for whatever reason?

Edit: Of course, if it is just Steam that's blocking you, why not Paypal the funds to a friend and have them gift you the games you want?

I knew I should have gotten Terraria last night. :/ Not that the extra $2.50 pains me, but still, it's $2.50.

Terraria and Terran Conflict tonight, tomorrow will be all the other cheap / overall deals that interest me. And the ticket redemptions.

Damage report:
Magicka : $3.39
Defense Grid DLC : $0.72

Total:
$4.11

Just not much I would honestly have time to play. Guess I don't have the sickness like some of you.

well, I've only spent $10 for this whole summer sale. Im not really sure why it got blocked, though from what I've read from steam faq, "insufficient funds" is quite a common problem, will ask my bank tomorrow when I'm free.

So I might cave in on Today's deals. Any insights on Hitman and Prince of Persia? (If PoP, which of them?). I'm not looking to spend more than 10€, really! I hate myself for missing out on a couple of daily sales (like DMC4 and Bioshock 2).

Also: Is the Square-Enix Eidos Collector pack worth it? Says it was like 500€ now 75€?

Thanks in advance!

So I only picked up X3 and NWN2 today, just because I wanted to try them out and see if I liked them. You need a joystick for X3 though?

I staved off getting Dead Space 1 and 2 (I have 1 that I haven't played that a friend gave me) and if I wait for 2 by the time I finish 1 it might be cheaper.

Isn't that part of the prize booth?

Even with the price increase Terraria is still dirt cheap. Hell, it was dirt cheap without the sale.

I can understand to an extent complaining about EA/Activision pricing, but a game like Terraria? Come on...

I've been grabbing a lot of gaming goodness off of Steam these last few days of the summer sale.

Got the X SuperBox, Dead Spaces, Company of Heroes pack, Deus Ex GotY, DMC4, The Last Remnant, Just Cause 2, Stalker pack, KotOR, Zombie Driver to name some.

But I still do not think that this kind of hamstering will get me anywhere. The chance that I will get to play any of those before the respective sequels are coming out is minute.

I don't think it's the price that anyone's complaining about, or even that it increased, or even that it was only at the lower price for a short amount of time. I think it's that, for some people, purchasing it at the higher price so soon after it was at such a lower price feels distinctly foolish. It's not "$5 is too much," it's "but after everyone else only paid $2.50 I'd look like a sap." I think people are just upset because they want to buy Terraria but now their pride won't let them. Dignity demands that they wait a week and pay full price.

If indeed tomorrow is a repeat of best sellers, I hope Assassin's Creed and Batman make it. I kind of regret not getting them during the daily sale. I might just get the first two Assassin's ($6.79 each), and wait and hope Brotherhood goes on sale during the Holiday sale (Hopefully lower then $19.99). I finished all of them on 360 already, but wanted to replay them again on my new gaming PC. I guess that was the main reason I didn't buy them the first time since I already played them (including Batman) on consoles.

The difference in quality between AC consoles and AC on PC is jawdropping.

I played the first two games on PS3. But bought Brotherhood on PC and....wow. Roma è bellissima

Eh it happens with the sales. Mistakes happen ever year with pricing. If I see a game at a price I want, I get it. If I hear I missed out on a great deal and the price is higher, so be it.

It seems even sillier to complain considering how cheap Terarria is.

The leap from AC2 PC to ACB PC is pretty huge as well. ACB seems to have increased visibility in the distance as well as new shadowing system (those razor sharp shadows added a lot to the graphics).

I got pissed because it was €2.5 when I added it to the cart, €5 when I proceeded to checkout. No way I could support such moves.
