Steam Summer Sales Thread: remember: you can actually play after buying

Just when I thought I was done with the sale today, I now need to get Supreme Commander 2.

How cpu intensive is it? I remember the first game getting really choppy at times when the unit count hit a certain level.

It's a much smoother experience. Definitely scales much better to a wider variety of systems.

And YES, if you pick up SupCom2, you may as well nab the DLC pack. It's got a slew of new and fun units, new tech as well. Amazing value for the base game and expansion pack. Give it a chance, well worth your time.

Hmm. I created my EA account to play Burnout Paradise a few years ago. I don't have access to the email address it used anymore. I can't remember the password; I've tried everything I think I would have used.

Fine, no problem, I go to create a new account. Unfortunately, my username is taken. I can't sign in by username, just email address, but my username is taken, presumably from my old account. Making matters worse, if I go to Origin support, it claims the username is not taken. So I've probably got a BioWare account, an EA account, and an origin account. WTF?

I have:
- The original email address, no access
- My Xbox copy of Burnout Paradise + my original settings/save file
- The ability to answer a forgot my password question, if any, and provide dates on products I've used.

Is it possible for me to get my username back? :/

EXACTLY this same situation has happenned to me with Burnout. In fact, I can use the account in other EA games, but not Burnout. Really frustrating. Happened about 6 months ago.

Who are all these people who are terrified SupCom2 is a crap game and not even worth $4? ;)

SupCom2 got crapped on for two major reasons when it first came out:

1) Primary reason was the economy model went from one where you have to "pay" for things as they are built, to a more "normal" RTS model of "you can't buy the $100 tank without $100 to buy it".

2) The maps and battles were smaller than in the first one.

For point #1, I'm not a die-hard to have it either way but as it was a model around since Total Annihilation I can see why it was a big deal to suddenly change it. I don't think people cared about this model too much itself, what they loved was the ability to queue up hundreds of build orders and just let them run. When SupCom2 first shipped you couldn't do that anymore since it charged you for the buildings as soon as you "bought" them, making it impossible to play that way. One of the later patches put's it back so its not QUITE like the old model, but you can queue up build orders till your hearts content which was always the most important part.

For point #2, recall that even though the maps are smaller, they are still very big compared to many other RTS games. Especially the DLC maps, I've never had any problem with. If you try and go back to the first game (I still play both), the maps feel too BIG, and the games just take way to long. They lost a nice bullet point on the box for the giant maps from the first game, but it made the GAME better IMO.

I've played both SupCom1 and SupCom2 extensively, and at the end of it I enjoy SupCom2 more. If you genuinely don't like SupCom2 that's obviously okay, but don't hate on it for stuff you remember from a review a couple of years ago... that's mostly changed. I've sunk a lot of hours into both versions of the game (including SupCom2 pre-patches) and I can promise if you like RTS it is worth the money.

Damn it, I just uninstalled SupCom 2 yesterday thinking I wouldn't play it for ages as it'd been sitting in my installed list for months. Now I feel like playing it again :( Time to redownload...

I have to make a choice. My final purchase will be x3 terran conflict and either

Dead space 2 10 euros
Vampire bloodlines 9 euros

In a perfect world id buy both. These extra purchases add it up to about 23 on top of my spent 30 euros... I dont want that. So unless someone decides to gift me ds2 or vb (lol) someone convince me to buy one of them and why :d

I can also decide to wait til tonight, and if ds2 is a repeat, i buy it, else i buy vb!

Vampire. DS2 is far more likely to be in a future sale and probably for cheaper.

I passed up a lot of games out of sheer willpower, but if I see them for cheap again I will probably break down and buy them all.
Oh, I was excited for a minute there. I shouldn't have passed up on BioShock 1, so if it's back I'm grabbing it.

NWM, it's sorted. Anyway, had a blast with this Steam sale. Assasins Creed pack, Beat Hazard, Battlefield Bad Company 2 pack, and some more.

Got some nice stuff so far, but the only game I haven't picked up that I was hoping to get is Witcher 2. Maybe I can hold out until the holidays....

I know this is a Steam thread but I just figured I could ask here.

Have Crysis 2 and Bulletstorm been on sale on other sites? Sucks that they aren't on Steam...

So Dawn of War Retribution is 22 bucks right now. This is my first steam sale figuring out how all this works.

After Sunday it will go back up to 30 dollars I'm assuming. And since there are no more deals of the day I should get it now before the sale ends? Just asking as 25% off seems kinda meh compared to the other deals ... but I really want to add this to my collection.

If it doesn't go on sale today, you may want to consider picking up the whole THQ pack. For $50 total, you get all of DoW II and a lot more. I'm not sure if you can gift individual games from a pack (Homefront, yuck) but if you have the money it seems like a better deal for you.

Bulletstorm has been on sale for around $15 (on Origin, I think) and a couple bucks less on GamersGate. I believe Crysis 2 has had sales on Origin and Amazon, but not quite that low.

Crysis 2 would have been my most wanted game in this Steam sale, what a shame. I'll probably get it when it drops low enough on Amazon.

WAIT FOR IT UNTIL THE NEW DEALS POST.

DoWII: Retribution was a daily deal on the first day of the sale for $14.99. If they do a "best of" sale today starting at 1:00 PM EST its got a VERY good shot of making a reappearance. If after today's deals post it is not included then consider spending the $22 for it before the sale ends tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST. But only do that if you're sure that you will play it before Christmas because the DoW games are regular members of the Steam summer and holiday sales. You'll probably be able to get it for $14.99 again come Christmas, and possibly even $10.

Thanks Drek I missed the first couple days of deals. Will wait to see what the update today holds.

Wow, Hitman: Blood Money runs like crap on my PC.

Somebody gotta tell me how I can run 2010 games just fine yet I can't run one 2006 game.

It's on Steam in the US, too. Unless you mean it's on sale, in which case, YOU BASTARD!
Oh i guess I can't see it, doesn't show for me. I see well that will have to wait until a sale comes up and I'll have to get it gifted from someone. I suppose I'll wait on Amazon for a Crysis 2 sale.

A little unrelated to the Summer Sale but since the main Steam thread is defunct for the duration of the sale, I thought this would be the best place to ask.

So, I bought and installed a retail copy of Crysis on my new PC. Can I add the game into my Steam account and launch it from there? What about Origins?

Nah, it's not on sale, I just got confused because he mentioned Crysis 2 which is pulled, I thought maybe Bulletstorm had been too, being EA.

Contact customer service via phone or on-line chat and they should sort it out.

Since my buddy is fervently avoiding finishing the last two levels with me (or is actually doing interesting things with his weekend), if anybody that has COMPLETED the Portal 2 co-op and wants to get the summer ticket, please add me (Steam ID: PixyJunket) and we'll grab it together. Apparently it's not too hard so it should be a quick grab.
I'm sitting in Portal 2 right now looking for someone to do this with. My Steam ID is egallager.
Edit: Oops, didn't see your other post about already having done it...

Haha, it happened late yesterday. So dumb of them.

It appears to have been a valve mistake. This was posted in the Terraria thread.

Tiy said:
As far as I'm aware someone made a mistake and posted the game at the wrong price, and later corrected it. I was as surprised as anyone else here to see the price change. I'm sorry if you feel mislead, but this certainly was not a stunt or a question of greed on our parts. We've been supporting the game with lots of free content since release, it would be silly to then destroy all that good will with a dishonest stunt.

Eh it happens every now and then. Wasn't the witcher 1 like $.99 during one mega sale for a little bit? I also managed to get DMC4 for $5 in the winter sale before the price was corrected.

Got escalated to LEVEL 2 EA support, 33 minute wait period remaining!

Number 16 in line. The countdown to when I'd be served went to 0 and then the text just apologized to me. I suspect I have another 20-25 minutes.

I feel fairly lucky in that I decided that I was, for the most part, done with the sale on Tuesday and there hasn't really been any dailies that i've wanted since. Sure, there were 3-4 games that I would have liked to have, but they didn't feel like "must haves" to me, even at the prices they were at.

That's a 100% increase! Those bastards. Glad I didn't pay $5.00 for it. Not worth that much money.
Original price is USD $ 10, therefore it's a 25% increase, still woth much more in my opinion. Stop being incendiary.

:lol at people complaining about the Terraria price increase.

It's still extremely cheap and more than worth the price. The first price was a mistake. Sheesh some people need to relax a bit.
