I don't know if this was mentioned but Fallout: New Vegas was cheaper before. It was only 10.63 i think because it was nearly the same price i paid for it off of d2d i think. I remember going "Well i guess it didn't matter if i got it from d2d or on steam cause they were about the same". But it wasn't 14.99.

You would think after this many sales Valve would have gotten the pricing errors down by now.

Cheaper in a previous sale?

I know it was 15 twice for this one, and Fallout 3 was 10.19

Not everyone was lucky enough to get it I guess ;)

I did get it from D2D for that price :p

I was just trying to clear up the fact that there was no pricing error and it was 15$ both days on Steam.

The last PC I bought was in 2000, I stopped using it in 2005 or so and went console gaming mostly until buying a gaming rig a few weeks ago. I don't remember games being this cheap.

GAF Is it always like this for PC gamers??

For just under 40 bucks I got 6 games, all of which would cost a minimum of 20 - 30 dollars for the console equivalent (if existing at all). I'm feeling giddy ...

Sure some of the games are older but geez 6 games for 40 bucks .... like 6 bucks a game. Amazing.

Even before the steam sale I also picked up Rifts for 5 bucks as well! I can't believe how easy it is to get pc gaming software for so cheap.

Yep. I got all 3 Assassin's Creed games for $27, Fallout 3 GOTY for $10, Terraria for $2.50, and the Quake Pack for $7.50. That's a LOT of gaming for little cash.

Okay i'm done, i must have spent like 30 dollars which is just a little more of what i was planning to spend, i figure it's okay since i'm starting new job tomorrow. Damn this sale was crazy.

Anyone else getting a Credit Card declined message? I started getting this yesterday and this is the first time this has happened to me. I sent a support ticket about this on Saturday and still have not received a response. You would think they would respond as soon as possible because this may cause a loss of sale. I wanted to buy a lot of the indie titles that are on sale today, but it appears that I may not be able to.

If you're patient enough to wait for sales (big or small) then yes, you can get some great prices. My policy is basically to buy new games for normal PC prices of $30-50 if I am super interested in them and/or want to support the company, otherwise I wait for whatever $5-20 price feels reasonable.

This is largely why people use the Steam Wallet, presumably. Support is going to be very slow and swamped I suspect, and I would be surprised if they were nice and gave you the sale price. You could try Paypal if you have that available.

I'd heard that if you make too many transactions some card companies get suspicious and put a hold on ...

I guess it feels really amazing to me right now as I'm able to pick up from a large backlog of PC games I never got to play (basically anything in the RTS genre, as well as some PC exclusive titles like Magicka) ....

Guess I bought my PC at a pretty opportune time.

Oh my god, I'm done. I won't be buying any new games (except Diablo 3 if it hits this year and Battlefield 3 and Skyrim) for the rest of the year. I can't believe I bought so much stuff. I have no self control.

Does it get better as you experience more Sales? Please make me feel better.

Yep, it's unlikely Steam can do anything about it. This is why people recommend puting a bulk Sum in your Steam wallet, because most CC companies if they see bunches of tiny transactions will put a hold on an account.

Does Battlefield Bad Company 2: Vietnam have any single player component, or is it just a multiplayer map pack with unique guns/vehicles?

Just multiplayer

Don't worry, I spent way more than I planned as well. Maxed out a credit card, lol. But yeah, it does get better as you'll have most of what you want next time.

One more Steam game which anyone with any interest in football/soccer should buy immediately: Football Manager 2011 - £10 at Green Man Gaming. It's Steam registrable.

Edit: Voucher code doesn't work apparently as it's already on special offer, but £10 is still a great price.

I'm done. Picked up Borderlands GOTY a moment ago. Now that the sale is over, I find myself both happy and sad - for obvious reasons.

You know I've never really gotten into any Battlefield games. I played some Star Wars Battleftont on PS2, and a bit of the XBLA downloadable (just the 30 minute demo) and thought they were enjoyable enough, but have never really gotten into any of them. Is this sale a bad time to jump onboard, perhaps simply waiting for Battlefield 3? That's the problem for me with some of these sales, knowing the latest-and-greatest is just around the bend. Had the same regret when I grabbed X3 yesterday, finding out the latest is almost here.

The id Super Pack or the Telltale Games complete packs. Take a jaunt through my childhood and play some of the most epic first person shooters made or buy the entire catalogue of Sierra's modern day equivalent.

Go with TellTale to play something new.

One of the great things I remember about PC gaming (and I think hasn't changed) is that you can get into a game "late" and still have a vibrant multiplayer community to play with. This is in complete contrast to console titles where unless the game is a AAA title you HAVE to get in on day one if you want any longevity from multiplayer.

I picked up 6 titles this sale and although some of them are old, I have complete faith they have months if not years left of multiplayer goodness.

Hell I think people STILL play Tribes 1

It does and it doesn't.

The more sales you take part in, the more games you won't buy because you already own. A lot of games are staple in Steam sales, like Tropico 3 and Bioshock for example. You'll be able to face a few days at least where everything for sale is something you either don't want or already own.

On the other hand, you'll find yourself doing things like scouring multiple forums, and combing through each developer's sale catalogue at the start of the sale to make sure you'll get the best bang for your buck. Then you'll fill your wish list with games that are reasonable priced already even if they don't become a daily deal.
And every day you'll log in on Steam at exactly the right time to see the new sales appear, and you'll run to the forums to see what people recommend and what they don't, and you'll end up getting swept up in the hype and buying far more then you ment to anyway despite any carefull planning.
You'll end up with far more games then you'll ever have time to play, and with a whole bunch of games you didn't even want in the first place.

If you're smart, you'll learn after a few of these sales to set a budget, and will only buy games you know you'll like and play And even then you'll probably spend more then you ment, but will walk away with such good value for money that you won't really care.

Wait, the Battlefield series and Star Wars Battlefront are not even nearly close to the same thing. These are two completely different franchises. Are you sure you know what the Battlefield series is?

Anyway, BC2 is definitely worth getting. It still has a huge community, tons of servers, and is still great fun. The first few levels will be pretty hard, but once you get over the hump, you're no longer really outclassed when it comes to equipment, and the squad/team based play (versus something like Call of Duty) means that you can contribute to your team without being a drag even if you are new, and your team will in turn support you. While K/D does mean something, it is not everything, and is not the objective, which makes it perfect for new players. It is definitely worth jumping in.

Edit: Ah, well based on the Wikipedia page, I can see why you would draw that conclusion. Sorry. That said though, BC2 is still not really like SW Battlefront at all.

I know the 2 series use similar mechanics, even if one is much less polished. At least that was my impression. Many people compared Battlefront to Battlefield when it was first released if I'm not mistaken.

*edit* wikipedia seems to back me up on the basic gameplay elements of the 2 series being comparable.

When you can walk away with 6 or more great games for under 50 bucks ... does it even really matter if you don't end up playing all of them? Especially when some of these games once cost 50 dollars INDIVIDUALLY when they first released?

If you set a 50 dollar budget just look at it like you paid what you would normally pay for a new release but walked away with 6 games instead of 1. Even if you play only 2 or 3 of them through to completion/spend some time in multiplayer ... you've gotten your monies worth.

At least that's how I look at it.

Yeah, you're right, I made a small edit above. I didn't mean to sound condescending, so I hope it didn't sound that way. I have never thought the two compared, but many else on the internet do. :)

Anyway, I do think it is still worth jumping in, and it is not too late to jump in. Why do you think you never got into the games? It may not be worth it if you don't like playing with randoms (though the community is pretty good, far above the caliber of a CoD, for example).
