Does anyone know if you can use the widescreen patch for VTMB with the latest 7.5 unofficial patch?

Yes. The widescreen patch comes inside 7.5 ( I think you launch it in the main folder)

Overall I'm okay with what I got on this sale, but there were definitely some things that I was hoping would've gone lower than they did in the end. However, I also own over 200 games so some of the deals that were good for a lot of other people weren't so great for me, and hopefully the winter sale does more packs at reasonable prices.

Penumbra Collector's Pack
Gratuitous Space Battles
Hitman: Blood Money
Splinter Cell: Conviction + DLC
Amnesia
Machinarium
Puzzle Agent
Frozen Synapse
Singularity
Hydrophobia
Toki Tori
BIT.TRIP.BEAT

$~64

I'm probly done buying games for the next month unless we get a few more good indie sales.

Are you sure about that? Someone mentionned earlier they were Steamworks enabled now, like Retribution? GFWL being mandatory is a deal breaker for me and I was considering getting Gold Pack tonight so I'd like some confirmation about this whole thing.

Retribution has steamworks. Not GFWL.

I think I asked this before but I may have missed the answer (apologies if you answered previously!)

Now that the sale is over I can finally buy some of the non-daily games, and I have my eyes set on Majesty 2, Drakensang, and Eschalon.

But when I came to Drakensang, do I get Drakensang or River of Time? I've never played either game in the franchise, and normally I would automatically go with the first game... but it says River of Time is a "prequel". Should I be playing it first? (Not to mention able to take advantage of any improvements over the first game).

Hey, quick question.

Say a friend bought me a game - he's from Europe so the game is bought from EU Steam. My Steam is Asian but uses US stuff - if I buy DLC from the game he gave to me, will it be compatible?

If you really care about playing games in order (which you almost never should) always play in release order. That said, I've always felt people spend entirely too much thought and energy on playing through all the games of a series before "allowing" themselves to play the game that actually interests them.

God dammit, i didn't want to buy anything today but i cracked and bought GTA4 Complete.

Final, slightly low-on-cash-this-month list:

- Puzzle Agent
- Prince of Persia
- GTA4 Complete
- Mass Effect

I've already beat PoP on a borrowed copy when it came out. Also I've got both ME and GTA4 on 360 (without episodes from liberty city though), but still - Master Race version is just better by default. :p

Damn those summer sales.

So I finished GTA4 on my 360 and now I'm thinking of buying it for my PC. But I never liked the controls. Niko felt like he was riding a skateboard. When making turns, his whole body would lean like the tower pisa. Felt awkward and hard to get used to. So does anyone know if there are any mods to change the control? Or at least a mod where I can put Niko on a skateboard so at least the controls will feel sorta normal.

Yes I got Retribution last week and I like how it has Steamworks. But I also heard that DoW 2 + Chaos Rising sold on Steam now are Steamworks enabled too (as in no need for GFWL whatsoever), exactly like Retribution. I'd like confirmation on that.

Feeling so troubled about BF Bad Company 2. I have it for the 360 (which is also the second time I bought it for that system) .... still awfully tempted though to triple dip on the PC version at 5 bucks.

Do people play the Nam expansion or most people still in vanilla?

I think the 4 pack is a different item. See on the Magicka page, it says "Buy Magicka 4 pack"

I understand it's a different item. What I'm saying is that when I put a 4 pack in my cart, it won't allow me to purchase it because I already have bought a single copy of Magicka. For some reason, it won't let me go past the cart phase into checkout.

I've submitted a ticket to steam support, but I have no idea what the turnaround time is.

I have absolutely nothing to spend my last 9 tickets on.

Whats left? Maybe we can recommend a game you might get convinced to until next year.

Off-Topic, but what is wrong with Greenmangaming. I want to finally start downloading my Arma II and I can't even log into their site.

Oh holy crap, I almost forgot this is the last day to pickup Bloodlines! That was a close one.

Also, I'm having an issue finalizing a sale. I already own Magicka but it won't let me pickup a 4-pack to give as gifts. When I go to checkout, the options to "purchase for myself" and "Purchase as a Gift" are greyed out. Any ideas?

Unfortunately it's not a glitch. You can't buy a 4-pack to gift if you already have the game. It's something a lot of people complain about, but it's the way Steam wants it to be. Not sure why, but you're out of luck on that one. One of the 4 copies has to go to you.

No DOW2 and Chaos Rising are still GFWL. At least they don't patch via GFWL.

THQ now uses Steamworks for all of their new releases, so Dawn of War II: Retribution uses Steam but Relic did not retroactively add Steamworks to Dawn of War II or Chaos Rising. Both still use Games For Windows Live. The first GFWL game is usually the worst in terms of being trapped in update loops, constantly having to boot in and out of a game, re-add your cd keys, etc, etc but once it's up-to-date, it's generally pain free. Or rather that's been my experience with the few GFWL titles I have. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men, Fallout 3, Bulletstorm, Section 8: Prejudice and now Dawn of War II Gold.

MY GFWL client is relatively up-to-date, booted up DoWII for the first time (bought it this sale) and got in without any issue.

Probably to stop mass reselling, not that there's that huge a profit to be had between 4-pack pricing and single pricing, but I've known people to try to make money on slimmer margins.

I'm considering Sanctum, it looks pretty fun and I've seen a lot of Steam friends playing it. I may gift my girlfriend Terraria. I'm probably picking up Insaniquarium for her too since she's been wanting that one for a while and it's on sale right now.

I ended up picking up DoW II and SpaceChem stuff, because I'll probably grab them eventually. I'll decide what to do with the last 3 tickets later.

My Purchases:

Oblivion GOTY Deluxe
Dragon Age: Origins - Ultimate Edition
Beat Hazard Complete
Civ V Spain and Inca DLC

Total:

A little over $20, so a pretty good haul I think. I already have over an hour in Beat Hazard - fun little game that will compliment my Audiosurfing well. Oblivion I installed, and tested to make sure it works, but I haven't actually played it yet, going to have to spend a bit modding before I dive in. Dragon Age I haven't even downloaded yet and as it weighs in at about 23GB it might be awhile before I do so - I have limited HD space on my Windows 7 partition here, so I might just wait until I build a new PC before installing. Don't regret that though since at $10.20 it wasn't really going to get much cheaper if at all. Civ V I'll get back to a to at some point - I go in spurts with the Civ series, but a couple bucks for some civs that I'll enjoy playing will be worth it I think.

Probably not going to get anything else - I already looked over the thread with the deals that weren't dailies and nothing really grabs me. I may impulse buy something at the last minute, but I'm not sure how likely that would be.

Well crap. Here I thought I was going to play Santa in July and surprise some folks. That's a bummer. I'll still be able to give one or two copies out, but that is less than ideal.

Thanks to you, Metal Gear and Palette for your replies, I'll think about this again then since we've had pretty bad issues with GFWL in the past and just uninstalled the program altogether.

Ah well sorta hoped they had retroactively added Steamworks to DoW 2 + Chaos Rising.

My DVD drive just crapped out after choking on a blank CD-R so it'll be downloads only from now on. It's not worth $20 to buy a new one. Thanks to Steam, it's really been downloads only since I got my wife The Sims 3.

Oh, and one other thing...

Did everyone get the prize booth stuff they wanted? I got the Beat Hazard Ship, the TF2 Glasses, and the Portal Snorkles. The other stuff I didn't have the games for and wouldn't be likely to purchase (or care about the DLC for) in the future. So I only got 9 total tickets for the stuff I wanted, just doing the easy stuff I didn't even have to go into games for. There's a few additional tickets I could snag, but I don't really think it's worth the effort just for additional contest entries.

JaseC

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Looks like I've got what I wanted from the dailies. I'll pick up Bloodlines and a handful of cheap indie games.

Bought:

Dawn of War Retribution 7.50 (skated in on the pricing error)
Supreme Commander 2 + expansion 7 dollars or so
Terraria 5.00 (missed out on the pricing error :( )
Magicka Complete 8 dollars give or take
Frozen Synapse 11 something I think?

So roundabouts 40 bucks.

Overall I'm pretty happy. There were other titles that interested me but I think these will be MORE than enough to keep me busy.

Also currently playing Rifts and Starcraft 2 .... I really didn't want to fall into the trap of having a backlog that will never get played.

A couple of questions that will inform my final purchases:

Bloodlines - does it work without problems on Windows 7 64 bit as long as I'm using the latest patch?

Prize booth prizes - Just picked up DoW II: Retribution, is the commander helmet DLC worth it? It's between that and Alien Breed 2.

Yeah, I got all I wanted and them some. I've got 17 tickets left and am still deciding on what to get.

Sucks the recap day is full of mostly the more expensive, bigger titles. I was hoping for Wings of Prey, bit.trip games, and/or Mount & Blade to pop back up since I missed them the first time around. Oh well, will probably bail into the fantasy Paradox pack instead.

I understand that Games For Windows Live can be a royal pain in the ass but honestly GFWL was better than the set-up Relic used for Company of Heroes and if you're buying DoWII Gold for the campaigns, the client shouldn't cause you with too many issues once it's updated. The Steam installation now includes a step for installing the GFWL client, which Kane & Lynch: Dead Men did not. I had to google why that game would not run when I tried to launch it.
