Your criticisms sound like they were based off of pictures on the store page. Not saying they are, but they don't really get to the heart of any serious problems.
Being as I'm at work, I couldn't really elaborate on my problems with it.
1) Poor controls? The controls are great. I don't even know how to respond to this. Either using a pad or a keyboard/mouse, it controls fine. Did you try messing with the options at all? This is literally the last thing that I would complain about with this game.
I repeated found myself curing at the game because my character on screen didn't do what I wanted him to do and what I thought I had done on my keyboard. I didn't mess with any of the settings (because I really wasn't invested enough to) but my complaits about this could be because I have a general bias against 3rd person shooters to begin with. Everything about the third person perspective turns me off with very few exceptions (Gears of War/Dead Rising ect...)
2) Graphics? The game looks great. I love the half-way realistic/stylized look. Are the characters digital Roger Rabbits like in Team Fortress 2? No, but not everything needs to be.
Okay so the Graphics thing may be a bit harsh considering the age of the game and thedeveloper. For what it is, the graphics are okay. The environments aren't exciting (to me) and the people look and move... well, wrong. Also I had to deal with a graphical glitch in which my dude would pick up a gold bag, but the bag would remain on the ground. I'd move around like I had it and the game would recognize a capture with the phantom bag, but it would remain on the ground for me. And yes, if everything could look like TF2 I'd be happy. :lol
3) Gameplay? It is a team shooter. Certain classes are better than other in certain situations. It is pretty well balanced for having 4 unique classes. Are there enough completely different modes? I could always want more. But for 1.50? There is an embarrassment of modes to play.
All of my issues with the game are based on the idea that it was... what, 6.00 dollars during the free weekend? The taste it left in my mouth has convinced me not to spend a single penny on the game, much less 1.50, but there it is. More to the point, the gameplay was limited and boring for me. Again this could be because the third person perspective allowed me to disengage from the action to the point where I just couldn't enjoy anything I was doing. Do I want more class variaty and modes? Ya I do, can you really complain about limited gameplay when it's 1.50? I guess not.
4) Sound? I dunno. There isn't a ton, sure. But it feels appropriate. Not everything needs an orchestral soundtrack.
Dude it's a wild west game! The sound should be something that makes you feel like a damn cowboy or outlaw and it was completely absent. I felt like I was shooting toy guns. It's not a big complaint but it was just part of what I didn't like about the game.
5) Generic? I dunno, depends on the perspective, I guess. If you play a lot of team shooters, then yeah, it doesn't bring a ton of super new stuff to the table. You'd be hard-pressed to find another game like it on PC, though. Far from generic.
To be fair, my point was that it was a Generic Wild West Shooter, which should be hard to do. At the very least it shouldn't feel like a Mod/Skin for TF1.
Did you play with friends? Any multiplayer game is better with friends.
I understand if the game didn't do it for you and you're entitled to your opinion. I also don't think the game is perfect, but for anyone remotely interested in anything the game is trying to do, 1.50 is a bargain.
I didn't play with friends no, but then my friends don't play any squad shooters with me. *FOREVER ALONE*
To anyone else reading, if you've got 1.50 burning a hole in your steam wallet and like Wild West based 3rd person shooters, then by all means give it a try. But I just want to be a counter-point to all the love it gets. I have really tried to enjoy the game and simply can't. To me, and a few other people in this thread, it's not worth 1.50... if it were Free I still wouldn't play it.
